Hi cami, love the videos. Just wanted to ask what server do you play on and do you play from Australia? I play on Connery when I started in 2013 and stopped around early 2015 and I use to live in nz, Iv recently came back to ps2 a few months ago and am playing from samoa, I average around 250ping on a good day, just wondering if there's a proxy you use or something because 250ping in fps is killer 😅
Do you plan on doing a video on the new NSX Kappa (basically a variant of this thing.) It seems like a better version of this that addresses some of the issue you talked about.
I swear in these clips you hired the entire lobby not to shoot at you because I can never get close to people without being targeted by 5 infantry and a liberator
If only you knew how much pain he had to go through to get these "pro" clips. He would sometimes go 5 deaths in a row before getting a kill when he streamed this.
I know its brutal for content creators, especially when they force themselves to use a particular gun, as each gun has an ideal time and place for its use and deviating from that time and place can lead to some serious frustrations. I was helping defend seabed listening post on indar, and was able to get repeated 13+ kill streaks using a mutilator max as the infantry was all stacking around doorways making the mag size and high damage output ideal for wiping whole corners of the point. All in all, in the 5-10 minutes of that fight i got about 50 kills across 2 max units. However if i focus on using mutilators in all situations, I would probably die more than get kills.

From a new player perspective I found one really good reason to use it over anything else. Since you can get the Tengu for free with a suppressor it let's you have a suppressed SMG for infilitrator without having to spend any certs. Which is a completely different playstyle that normally costs a lot of certs just to try out. Seems this might be a change as the code gives you the NSX-P Tengu now with the suppressor free.
In short, it's an UMP-45 in a Kriss Vector-ish looking package loaded with MI bullets (Multiple Impact/a single bullet that breaks into 4 when it's fired)

It makes it really hard to judge whether you should go for the kill or pull back. Getting use to a weapon ttk is so important to make decision in the moment.

@@CAMIKAZE78 Thank god! I wouldn't wish the Yumi on my worst enemy. I've almost got it Auraxed and i gotta say, it is HELL! God help you when you get to it XD
Tengu, it screams "knife fight" weapon, though I find it often can't chew through heavy assaults, it can still take out priority targets like Medics and Engineers, I'd personally only recommend it to people who like a sort of "Stalker" playstyle, where they pick a target then wait for the right moment to take them out.
My experience arxing the tengu: best on infiltrator, if you can't smell your enemies breath, you aren't close enough. I always ran 1x sight, suppressor, soft point and extended mag as ADS is so important that I didn't bother with laser. Almost all other smg's are better in most situations, but it's pretty fun nonetheless.
I use this gun a lot and have to say that it is best at ambushing point blank as an infiltrator or just wailing on people as a heavy. Otherwise it's not very effective. As he said, more for fun cheesy play and nothing else. Good video.
Tengu is a great starter weapon for people getting into SMG's. On console its 1 cert and free with a code on pc. Its powerful when u learn how to use it and with no "starter smg" for infiltrator, this can be a great starter weapon. I do agree thier are better options for more scenorios, but this is still a great no cost starting SMG with a great reward for people who know how to postion and aim imo.
Although Kami compared this weapon mostly to NC weapons, for other factions this is a great weapon. I auraxiumed this gun and found the most success using this gun with a suppressor while using infiltrator or LA. This gun destroy upclose as its damage model reflects. The pellet spread is an issue and a high FOV definitely negatively impacts it.
Another noice review Cami! The Tengu falls into an odd niche, but I think it performs pretty well once you use it to it's strengths. It's worth giving a good go either way since it costs nothing to get it with the freebie code.
(Edit: Incorrect information, pebcak error) One thing I found interesting is that you talk about it having that 200 damage model, but that's only true when you aren't ADSing. ADS drops the pellet count from 4 to 3, which is probably part of why it feels like a lackluster meme weapon. It encourages pushing hipfire spray with the hybrid laser to dial it in on one target, rather than scoping, pushing it further away from good habits for the rest of the armory. All in all though, a good in depth review of an oddball weapon.
I'm going to have to look into this a little more considering I was under the impression it was always 4 pellets per shot (nothing in the stats sheets ressemble otherwise)... I'm going to do some digging on this.
I loved this gun, hipfire all day. No need for the suppressor, use the laser or ext mag and mow down the enemy. Edit: That said, I don't use a weapon after I aurax it. I miss this gun.
NC Engineer: *Sees SMG bodies* NC Engineer: *Sees Automatic shotgun parts* Literally everyone: DEAR GOD WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU THINKING NC Engineer: *Audible excitement* NS Federation: Yeaaaah we can't let you guys be the only one to get that.....
50 Damage at close range x 4 pellets = 200 Dmg. But due to 20+ % of damage resist, all four pellets loses 10 damage each, so 160 total. If you use a supressor, it will always do minimum damage of 36 -20% per pellet for 28.8 damage per pellet, so less than 120 damage per full hit.
Honestly I loved the gun when I just recently got back in to the game and my headshot game just wasn't up to par. The reliable body shot damage with the spread to the head kept me enjoying the game enough to get back in to the swing of things. I don't use it much anymore now that I have a little time under my belt again.
I think that is the reason there that it has been offered as a free gun to help new players; The amazing forgiveness with bodyshots is what gets it there! Thanks for the comment mate :)
Extended Mag isn't a bad choice either if you avoid hip firing. Ugh I hate that RPG gave us two of these to Auraxium... But at least they gave infils our lord and savior Daimyo
Let me tell everyone who doesnt know. Doing content for planetside 2 can be daunting. As a content creator myself for a different game although I have done planetside 2 videos and am planning on doing more. It is very different. More difficult. I'm sure kamikaze can relate to the feeling of having 80 5 gig video recordings from the last month and having to go through them all little by little to find those runs. I started trying to stop recording after I have a kill streak so I know that at the end if every recording there is a streak. But to each his own. I'm still struggling. Its like if I dont immediately go and edit the clip after gameplay I might forget about it completely and thus is lost in the hundreds of video clips on my drive. Sheesh
I'm reminded of your review with the Naginata before this when you mentioned its accuracy when hip firing. Granted it's not as bad but makes me wonder if all NS weapons have a drawback with hip firing
for me value of tengu comes from the increased hit probability, because im sending 4 projectiles down range instead of one thus making it more likely to do atleast some damage.but if you arent terrible at fps games, then gladius or even ns7 would be a better pick.
I am really good at aiming, mainly headshots, but somehow I seem to suck with NC weapons, a lot of times they are just not precise enough, then I started using NS weapons and all out of the sudden I hit nearly every shot. I think I just can't deal with the recoil in Planetside 2.
Excuse me I am trying to get the Tengu for PS4 how do I redeem the code for it? I don’t know what my day break account is and I tried using my PS4 account but it didn’t work
so it there really any difference between the the Tengu and it precursor the Kappa other than the Kappa has a built in smart choke and fires three pellets and not four
Tiny tip: As per means «in reference to.» Meaning it’s used when you are referencing something else, be it written material or something someone else has said. «As per needed» doesn’t mean anything.
As someone who cant hit headshots, loves shotguns, and does not have 1000 credits to throw around to try another smg, or shotgun, this weapon sounds like my dream come tru
Bought it not long after it first came out, and a couple of days later they gave it away. Aurax'd it out of spite lol. Great for fast LA play, and rewards accuracy(ironically, given that some of the pellets get a little lost). As to range? Only engage people within "social distancing" range. Beyond that, the RNG gods take over.
"Bursting SMGs is not something we should be doing anyway." You sound like such a TR right there. NC has the greatest SMG (pocket carbine) for burst fire in the game and burst firing is important. I think that the weapon has the unique position because it is given away for free. It's a decent weapon and gives infiltrators a good option to be competitive before they can get something else like say an auto scout rifle. ;) I think that the Tengu is a good gun for the newer players who get it for free with the code and they will outgrow it but it gives them something to increase their effectiveness in the early stages.
Which SMG are you referring to for the NC as a pocket Carbine? All of them have stupidly high damage drop-offs that make them a little rough for long range.
@@CAMIKAZE78 well I was talking about the cyclone but your suggestion makes sense too. I have been having a blast with the cyclone and even using it at midrange and getting plenty of kills with it. The damage model for the weapon is plenty generous. It's a bit different than some other options. First day I had it I was stuck in a midrange fight and it was doing well. I was impressed with how I could get it to work at that range even though it was a "CQC weapon" being am SMG. My experience with other SMGs was not as good at that range. The Tengu I wouldn't want to use too much at midrange because of the spread unless I was just firing into a group to supplement damage from others. Maybe my mileage with the gun is different than others but to me it feels almost like a carbine that's best at close range but doesn't have the erroneous accuracy at midrange and beyond.
I think something you missed with this review. With your focus on a portion of your shot missing when you would have hit with a single bullet. You forgot about the reverse. A portion of your shot hitting when you would have missed with a single bullet. This makes the gun a little more forgiving in that respect. So when you average it out it changes. You look at it as punishing some hits when you should look at it as forgiving some misses. I think it's important to know that no matter how good you are you are gonna miss sometimes and this gives you some forgiveness. Especially if you're good enough to make your misses near misses.
Come on, you went really hard on this gun. This gun has a unique mechanic to itself, it's not a carbon copy of any other gun with a slightly higher stat here and a slightly lower there. That's what the game needs, not more carbon copy alterations of the same stuff over and over again. I thought you agreed on that, you said it in other videos of yours. :/
I don't think he disagreed with it being not unique in the first place - he even referred to using it for memeplays. I tend to agree with Cami that it is much less competitive than other SMG's (I'm NC) such as Cyclone or Tempest. Gladius was a pain for me due to its somewhat random recoil at mid-ranges but I did get a few killstreaks with it. So yes, Tengu may be unique but it is much less competitive when compared with other similar damage model guns. I would normally get the Tengu for a breath of fresh air once I want to have some fun plays and step back a bit from going "all in" as a HA. As seen in Cami's gameplay, it would be good to play as an infiltrator at nighttime especially as you can get the flank on the enemy and surprise them, but again, that can apply to any of the other SMG's as well.
I love unique weapons, but just because it's special, doesn't make it a good weapon. I only know 1 weapon in the game that I have a worse time with, and I hoard weapons like you wouldn't believe. If it was faster shooting, or had a narrower spread, maybe it'd be decent. For now, it just feels like the physical embodiment of a disadvantage.
The NS11 is my favorite weapon in the game (tied with the Lacerta), the Tanto is awesome (and it's getting buffed next patch), the Naginata becomes muuuuuch better once you learn to shoot-strafe-repeat and you already know about the Tengu. In short, I consider all of them but the Tengu to be very good options and some of my favorites in their respective classes.
Hey! Great overall review with many correct points, but I have to respectfully disagree with a few... viewpoints only really. Instead of saying if you hit with a normal smg you hit 100% of your shots. While true and especially important for competitive 1on1 as Infiltrator or LA... I have to say as a supporting Engineer or heck even medic that thing is nice. My aim isn't 100% competitive at supporting role times so when I switch to my primary it's nice to know that when I go "brrr" and move my cross-hair to their body that in those fractures of a second at least a few pellets can hit. I had problem with the Eridani (at first) filling a role for my biolab/cqc MAX support engi... But with the Tengu... the drawback became a crutch. When I get jumped on I aimed centre mass most of the times which lead to stray headshots. All in all... I have to say if you/a player is not that good with aiming for the head... This thing can be babies first smg... It was for me at least. Also a huge boost for support roles imho.
Hey mate, on the point about the 100% I didn't mean that you hit 100% of my shots. What I meant is that 100% of the damage goes where you are aiming, greating increasing the reliability as a result. While I do agree that it is a nice step towards the SMG family, the Tengu still inherits that randomness that can cause issues.
@@CAMIKAZE78 hey! Thanks for the reply. I do agree with you that the randomness can cause a lot of issues especially if used on offensive roles. I just wanted to maybe give a bit of some other perspective of a salt knight (me) who still doesn't hit as many headshots, or sometimes shots in general, as he should. It gains a bit from this randomness as it makes sure I get at least some chip damage in especially while target acquiring and snapping to it. This is why I love the Tengu on support roles, as with these I am most likely not anticipating direct conflict but react more to being jumped on. And again to be clear... This weapon in my opinion as well has a limited niche and faces stiff competition especially in more offensive roles that duel quite a lot. Still fun, though ;^)
Increase damage per pellet to 60. Add 1 more pellet. Give the pellets a set spread resembling the 5th side on dice. Drop the minimum damage per pellet to 5. Increase base mag size to 30. The set spread will make it easier to use at long range while maintaining that as its weakness, and will make it far more reliable in cqc. It'd deal more damage when all pellets land (300), but the nature of spread would stop it from being COMPLETELY braindead. This'd allowing to hold the throne of being the king of cqb, while retaining it's long range weakness, and would give it more of a "personality" if that makes sense. Alternatively, give each pellet a clear tracer, because seeing a wall of fire from a single tiny weapon is satisfying
3:30 SEE, IM NOT CRAZY , Why is it some sunderers that are not being repaired can take two bricks of c4 and three or four rocklet salvos? I had a Sunday the other day that was smoking and on fire for two more salvos and it still just wouldn't die , No repair animation and if there was an engineer I don't know where he was because where the thunder was he could not have fit underneath And I was circling around it but it just simply wouldn't die
The sunderer probably had deploy shield (adds a 2500 hp shield that starts regenerating if it hasn’t been damaged in 6 secs at max rank) or blockade armor (adds 1000 hp and a 40% resistance to C-4).
@@ufhb6649 The one I'm personally thinking of did have a deployment shield , it's probably cognitive bias but it seems like my deployment shields under is taken down with pretty much no problems whereas I need to use almost all of my rocklets and my c4 to kill one I prefer the stealth Sunday now myself , because just like trying to make yourself as tanky as possible it's better just to avoid being noticed or to avoid being hit in the first place
James Jordan the deploy shield has a weird mechanic : two bricks of C-4 will deal 1000 damage do the shield, whereas the sundy itself would have taken approximately 3500 damage, so you have to take down the shield with rocklets before using C-4 (if you don’t, you will need to use all of your rocklets to destroy the sundy). I use either deploy shield or stealth, depending on the situation : if I want to hide it from aircraft and vehicles, I use stealth and place it somewhere infantry can’t reach, and if I know I am going to deal with a lot of infantry, I will use deploy shield.
@@ufhb6649 I actually didn't know that specific damage mechanic was that bad I thought that each brick of c4 did a thousand damage to the shield , And I usually do put the c4 on the shield Hit it with one or two rockets and then detonate the c4 , That's interesting though I'll either test it myself or change up my tactics I absolutely love the stealth center for so many reasons , it's primary weakness is people fighting right around the bubble or trying to get in your guns when you forget to lock it. I think the deployment center is best when you're going to be having a lot of friendlies or even an organized backup but most people don't bother to pay attention or defend the sender I noticed so I just went and started hiding it I usually hide it out of the way like 15 to 30 m further away than one might think so that when the defenders go around checking the usual spots for senders they don't notice it and it really doesn't make a difference in travel time
James Jordan well I think each brick deals a thousand damage to the shield, but if you detonate them at the same time, the damage doesn’t stack so it still deals a thousand damage.
frankly a Gauss Saw damage model for CQC sucks ass. You wouldn't want this even if it had no spread. The Saw is amazing IF all your shots land and you have a high headshot ratio. Getting all headshots with this is just not reliable enough. The Saw shines at burst fire ranges where it has no equal. Overall the Saw is one of the best if not the best weapon in the game, but only because of its insane ranged capabilities. The Tengu is the worst of both worlds.
Soo... All I heard is that this is as OP as I need it at close range; which is one of my playstyles. You need to be able to switch playstyles in FPS games, anyways.
This gun makes me miserable to the core. I probably just suck or something, but I feel like this is a weapon that doesn't stand a chance in a fair fight. I always need to fight unaware people to get a chance with this thing. Not a fun time since I'm redoing my Fujins. That, and Masamune.. Am I the only one that finds Masamune to be downright useless? No matter what you pick, your damage will be better with any other rocket launcher. And you don't even need to lock yourself into ADS for an extended period of time to make sure all your rockets land on most of those other ones. It does everything worse than any other rocket launcher from my experience, and Tengu does everything worse than any other SMG aswell. The only upside to Tengu is that it's fun. Masamune doesn't really have an upside in my book
I have small gripe about your TTK numbers, PS2 uses weapons with bullet velocity, and your numbers use formula that doesn't add bullet travel time to TTK. The proper formula for any distance shots would be "TTK = ((Shots To Kill-1))*Rate Of Fire/60) + (Distance/Velocity)", you can recheck it in calculators like this - protovision.github.io/ttk-calc .
Man the netcode/hitreg in this game is so bad. I'm seeing this video, all the kills are quite fast, timetokill shown in video is at 0.7seconds most with 7 shots, meanwhile ingame I need like 15 shots to kill somebody with the Tengu at close range, half of the shots literally not registering by the server.

salaa23 no worries ASP engineer with LMG, Shotgun secondary and grenade bando of emps is pretty scary too lol
Also available for 1 Cert on PS4.
(Edit: Incorrect information, pebcak error)
One thing I found interesting is that you talk about it having that 200 damage model, but that's only true when you aren't ADSing.
Not accurate. I just went in and tested it. When fired while ADSing, it still fires 4 pellets

@@CAMIKAZE78 SorinMarkov6666 nope, you guys are right, i'm an idiot who apparently just never understood how the stat sheets work. Apologies.
I have auraxed this wep 2 times (normal and networked) and I look forward to never use it again, its just not worth it
I loved this gun, hipfire all day. No need for the suppressor, use the laser or ext mag and mow down the enemy.
Edit: That said, I don't use a weapon after I aurax it. I miss this gun.
Hey Cam,
Could you please do a video on the Soft-point vs High Velocity ammo types?
I need some advice on the two types.
NC Engineer: *Sees SMG bodies*
NC Engineer: *Sees Automatic shotgun parts*
Literally everyone: DEAR GOD WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU THINKING
NC Engineer: *Audible excitement*
NS Federation: Yeaaaah we can't let you guys be the only one to get that.....
Yes. That is why I don't use supresor.
The tengu feels like a more infiltrator centered smg, run up to a enemy and just unload on them
Oh yeah, this thing is great when i used it as INF

@@Ally5141 What makes you think so?
@@jeffreyhoon because most weapons have worse accuracy when hip firing, only vanu would be surprised by that

This gun feels nice with a suppressor as a infiltrator just shot from behind
If you have a light assault ASP token this becomes the greatest secondary slot option
I use this on medic class, and I used it before with a thermal scope without a flash guard, and you get seizure mode in a few seconds
this weapon is gonna be MUCH stronger in the infantry arsenal update. Because of the hip fire accuracy attachments
The only reason I'd use this weapon is to complete my directives.
for me value of tengu comes from the increased hit probability, because im sending 4 projectiles down range instead of one thus making it more likely to do atleast some damage.but if you arent terrible at fps games, then gladius or even ns7 would be a better pick.

NC Shotguns! Do that for Quartermaster's Review!
so it there really any difference between the the Tengu and it precursor the Kappa other than the Kappa has a built in smart choke and fires three pellets and not four
This gun is great on small fights on console.
Once the frames start dropping, it becames sluggish.
I'd love a review of the NS-45 Pilot.
Best reason to use the Tengu is that your frames are not high enough to get full fire rate of the other smgs.
Do a video on the Brilliant camo, because it must be one of the hardest achievements to do.
I use it because on my medic i only ever shoot a gun when someone is in my face already
Did the NC decide that SMG's didn't have enough punch, or did the TR decide that shotguns didn't have enough dakka?
The world may never know.
It's basically a really shitty Gladius that can't land shots outside of 30m
Bought it not long after it first came out, and a couple of days later they gave it away. Aurax'd it out of spite lol.
Great for fast LA play, and rewards accuracy(ironically, given that some of the pellets get a little lost).
As to range? Only engage people within "social distancing" range. Beyond that, the RNG gods take over.
Can you do a baron review please?
i used this bad boy last night in the bronze match! Live free in the NC
I simply use the tengu because it's a fun gun, not because I am any good with it.
Also I can't click heads.

For now, it just feels like the physical embodiment of a disadvantage.
great video again
For now this is one of my favorite smg in game :) if u know how to use it, Tengu can become a beast
..... Are any of the free guns any good?
The gun main problem is it uniqueness spread ....i mean bro,why would i want an smg that spread in the first place?i can just use a shotgun directly
As someone who hates using shotguns, this thing was pretty fun.
@@Droid15243Z too bad in was not suitable for a lot of situation.it was fun was that all about it
Increase damage per pellet to 60.
I already love the gun, if they buffed it, it would be the first time I reused a weapon I aurax'd.
I'm glad you're not the developer in charge of balancing weapons.
@@iamme625 It would be hilarious tho.
@@ufhb6649
The one I'm personally thinking of did have a deployment shield , it's probably cognitive bias but it seems like my deployment shields under is taken down with pretty much no problems whereas I need to use almost all of my rocklets and my c4 to kill one
I prefer the stealth Sunday now myself , because just like trying to make yourself as tanky as possible it's better just to avoid being noticed or to avoid being hit in the first place
@@ufhb6649
I actually didn't know that specific damage mechanic was that bad I thought that each brick of c4 did a thousand damage to the shield , And I usually do put the c4 on the shield Hit it with one or two rockets and then detonate the c4 , That's interesting though I'll either test it myself or change up my tactics
I absolutely love the stealth center for so many reasons , it's primary weakness is people fighting right around the bubble or trying to get in your guns when you forget to lock it.
I think the deployment center is best when you're going to be having a lot of friendlies or even an organized backup but most people don't bother to pay attention or defend the sender I noticed so I just went and started hiding it
I usually hide it out of the way like 15 to 30 m further away than one might think so that when the defenders go around checking the usual spots for senders they don't notice it and it really doesn't make a difference in travel time
James Jordan well I think each brick deals a thousand damage to the shield, but if you detonate them at the same time, the damage doesn’t stack so it still deals a thousand damage.
Wait his logo doesn’t have an “i” in it
it IS the strangest indeed !!
frankly a Gauss Saw damage model for CQC sucks ass. The Tengu is the worst of both worlds.
my tengu is not as effective as that .... i have to unload a full clip to kill someone ....
SMG: Shotgun Machine Gun
As a new player is a very good SMG ...and it's free
If this thing was nc it would deal more demage and shoot more pelets...
Two Questions:
First: how the fuck are you able to play with that FOV ?
Second: How is it to be a fucking sweatlord ?
I have small gripe about your TTK numbers, PS2 uses weapons with bullet velocity, and your numbers use formula that doesn't add bullet travel time to TTK. The proper formula for any distance shots would be "TTK = ((Shots To Kill-1))*Rate Of Fire/60) + (Distance/Velocity)", you can recheck it in calculators like this - protovision.github.io/ttk-calc .
I use it cuz im 2 hours in the game.
