    One important thing to remember about Sunderer placement: All ground vehicles in the game will eject passengers (and spawn players) on the left side, unless it is completely blocked. So please be careful not to leave that side completely exposed to enemies farming with anti-infantry weapons.
    That said: Thinking ahead with a Sunderer can seriously help your faction's progress. Once, when a fight at one base was just about to wrap up, I went Infiltrator, drove a Flash over to the next base, and as soon as I could do so I hacked the vehicle terminal and put a Sunderer right by the vehicle bay. The defenders already found themselves overwhelmed as they started spawning there, and couldn't manage a push before we took the base.

    My favorite sunderer tactic is when my entire squad goes heavy assault except for the driver and gunners which go engineer and we just ride right up next to an enemy tank, all jump out and rocket them. My squad has been able to take out several tanks before the sunderer dies and break up the enemy armor column enabling the rest of our forces to push up.

    • @breeka1483
      @breeka1483 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Doing so usually takes several minutes and can even result in your tanks being destroyed if the enemy is even slightly coordinated. Not to mention pulling tanks require far more nanites then just the one sunderer. Keep in mind getting three to four tanks/vehicles is only in the case of driving into a large scale enemy armor column. If it is a smaller armor column we have been able to take out up to 6-10 before being killed in the space of about 1 minute.

    I've been driving a sunderer or AMS in Planetside 1 since 2003. On some factions on some servers the lack of sunderer pulling is atrocious. And then there is the battle bus syndrome. I have seen so many base fights lost because the sunderer driver thinks they are always a moving battle bus, when in fact their most powerful weapon is DEPLOYMENT! In the video when you see the 3 sunderers on Esamir battle busing forward, they should have had one sunderer deploying/redeploying all the time. One of the drivers did deploy briefly a couple times, but that was not enough. The basalisk is the most versatile sunderer weapon in the game. I rarely, rarely EVER pull a sunderer without one basalisk. My favorite weapon pair is the basalisk/walker. When I see the dual kobalt pullers, I shake my head knowing they are doing nothing but attempting an xp/cert farm, with no real versatility on the battle field. And then there is the sunderer abandonment syndrome. Your sunderer is not going to take care of itself, and leaving it at anytime is risk to the entire fight, and is selfish game play. As a sunderer driver you should be proud of providing the vital spawning absolutely needed to win the fight, and not feel like a babysitter. One thing missed about sunderer placement, is yes not being found is a vital sunderer placement strategy, but deploying at the shortest distance to the cap point, AND ON THE EXACT OPPOSITE DIRECTION FROM THE ENEMY SPAWN usually proves more vital to cap the base. There should be multiple sundy pulls with at least one stealth sundy back up anyway for the hidden sundies. And when placing a stealth sundy, I lock it from other players most of the time to prevent an inexperienced players from firing the guns and hence revealing its position. As seen in the video but I don't think narrated was mining the area, especially the sides of your sunderer not too close where you take too much self detonation damage, but where harassers & lightning pull along side where your basalisk can't shoot, but a mine going off could destroy or scare them off. I also like to place an auto turret around the back for anti infantry protection (further away if it is a stealth deploy). Good video. I really do need to start using ammo printer and mine detection again.

    • @Timithos
      @Timithos 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @CaptainStarDreamer That's a coordinated group effort that is used to compensate for the lack of the sundy's versatile fire power. Kudos to them who set that up with other player's cooperation.

  • @GabrielDesmond
    @GabrielDesmond 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    I love me some good Sunderer shenanigans. Pigeonholing myself into the role of dedicated sundy busting for as long as I did was great for learning some good placement from those enemies that really made me have to work for that kaboom. Coupled with bum rushing deployment shield after getting to a decent point of progression with Engineer and Combat Medic, this was also great for certs.
    And I'll always chuckle at the memory of one of my first Sunderer roadkills being a whole fucking Valkyrie that had landed for repairs to the other side of a hill I was driving through.

    @imperialreapercaptain6183 5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    Additionally, if there is a stealth sunderer and is not spotted, please, do not get in and shoot the guns on it. It purpose is stealth and not getting rocked by a single light assault. Firing takes away the stealth bubble and gives away its position. Basically opposite of its purpose. As well as dont fire next to the bus as well

    • @thecandyman1975
      @thecandyman1975 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great catch, definitely should of been in the video. Also if you are pulling stealth instead of deploy sheild, do not put it in normal sundy spots. They already know there is going to be a sundy there. They are going to look for a sundy there. They are going to see your stealth bubble. It's like a bird trying to stick its head in the ground and thinking its hiding. Defeats
      the purpose of stealth

    You forgot one thing, opportunistic ramming. Be opportunistic and ram things, like Burning Tanks and Harassers and run over infantry and just basically when you're fairly fresh use your repair sunderer as a battering ram and knock the enemies down. You'd be surprised how many lightnings and MBTs and so forth I've destroyed ramming them with a bus. And if you have a friend who's good at coordinating it, the dual ram from two buses is devastating to Tanks and other Sunderers alike. I've had whole sessions where I've only run Repair sunderers (proximity repair) and had dozens of kills and they were all from ramming things and running over infantry and so on. You can be very effective killing things even as the driver if you just bide your time and pounce when you see the opportunity to make something dead.

    If you are parking a sunderer at a base to attack it, I dont suggest the invisible bus nearly as much as Cyrious does. Especially considering the cost to cert it out. I do highly suggest the deploy shield bus. Even the first level of it is quite strong, though its definitely worth certing all the way. If you defend it actively, it becomes incredibly hard to kill. Even if you CANT actively defend it, the shield allows for a large amount of damage to be only temporary if the attack isnt sustained. That means that if you are away and someone kills the bus half ways, then comes back to finish it off, they will have to get through the shield AGAIN. The is the only bus to have that bonus. (sunderer = bus)
    Another point, garages are hit and miss for placement. Theres quite a few bases where garages are a perfectly good option. Although, I would definitely say if you are driving a invisible sunderer, the biggest advantage you have is being somewhere the enemy wont look. (aka not a garage)
    How to find the best sunderer deployment placement at a base: Go to an empty base, and picture you are attacking it. Pull a light assault so you can easily view the base from above and from wierd angles. Ignore for now if its possible to actually get a sunderer there (spoiler alert: it is). That will only hamper your creativity, and unnecessarily limit your options. Instead, think about where the red ring (where you CANT deploy) is, and where the spawn room is. Look at all of the places out of the red ring, and find one or two places that are the MOST IDEAL for a sunderer. after youve chosen the most ideal places, THEN figure out how to get them there.
    In order to find ideal places, consider the length infantry must travel to get to the point. Consider also things like if they are running uphill or down, or if them running from that sunderer gives them some sort of disadvantage. Consider where the enemy has a shot on the sunderer from. If the sunderer can be seen from the spawn, thats obviously bad. Theres lots of other places that can make a sunderer easy to attack. Each potential location will have pros and cons, and some locations will be good situationally. you have to weigh the factors to determine which are most ideal.

    On the flip side of this, I cannot explain how fucking annoyed I am that no one seeks out sunderers (console...). If the enemy is spawning, it's usually from one - it's like no one prioritizes finding and eliminating them. I can usually get the job done, but sometimes there are too many people on me to finish it off as an LA. Even one extra person would get the job done, but people get fixated on the damn control points, opposed to cutting the enemy off. I may have to start running engi to carry extra c4, because I swear some people would rather farm than win.

    It is great to see, that you make some more videos again, they are very helpful. I may have 2500 hrs of playtime, but it is always good to have some training and advise (except for the "pro-tips" in death screen ;) )
    There is one big problem with the sunderer. If you don't have a competent team to play with, the sunderer is more of the ride and deploy vehicle it mostly gets used as. So a sunderer with two random players, that do not focus anything it is hard to use effectively I think. And it is not really easy to find some players with active voicechat whenever you pull a sunderer.
    Hope you understand what I am writing about. I really enjoyed your videos in the past week, so thanks ^^ maybe one day we will meet on the fields of auraxis, but I guess you don't play on cobalt...

    I remember one session where my sundy was the last one in my faction to be alive upon our opponents launching a massive counterattack. Between the deployment shield and everyone’s efforts to heal/repair, we held off a massive counter attack for at least 10 minutes while outnumbered pretty badly. (For reference, the in game percent showed us at 12-24 pop and they had 24-48) During that time, I counted no less than 8 orbital strikes used against my sundy. Because of our efforts to hold out, other squads were able to take points that the other faction had isolated back before relieving us with an armored column.

    Something to note here, this is not common knowledge (apparently), but the GSD system also disables any and all collision related damage, and it also allows the sunderer (and other vehicles with the system active) to cross light-bridges if they are held by the enemy.
    If you have a tendency to flip your sundie down ravines or enjoy ramming things, the GSD will help you take zero damage during that moment.

    Your opinion on Blockade Armor (BA) vs Deployment Shield (DS), please.
    I'm currently running on Lv. 3 DS with Fire Suppression, Kobalt front, and Basilisk rear, pros & cons imho:
    Pros:
    1. DS gives 2500 extra HP (any Lv.)compared to 1000 extra HP on BA (Max Lv.).
    2. Reaching 2500 extra HP is easy on DS.
    3. BA gives C-4 Damage Reduction.
    4. BA gives that 1000 extra HP with no "restart time"
    Cons:
    1. DS needs "restart time" once the Shield gone.
    2. BA needs which "takes forever to repair the darn thing", if you're alone.
    3. DS doesn't have any damage reduction.
    4. That 2500 xtra HP on DS only came once the AMS is "deployed".
    Problem:
    1. Most of the time running with Pubs, so, no dedicated Engies to keep the AMS Alive. Unless you got stream of spawn and the battle flowing towards the AMS. My S.O.P once it got below 4000, Fire Supression -> Repair Grenade x1 -> Fix tools.
    2. Since its not Stealth, it basically putting ads to come and destroy the AMS.
    3. In the heat of battle, especially when the enemies in the immediate vicinity and attacking the AMS, DS "restart time" won't kick in.
    Any thoughts on what kind of scenario best for each?

    "the fury is garbage"
    STOP RIGHT THERE!
    The double fury tankbuster build is pretty decent even after the nerft at dealing large amount of DPS on enemy tanks, you can grossly out DPS magriders with fire suppression and even vanguards if you also have an heavy assault ready with a rocket inside, also lightnings have no chance to approach you at close range at all.
    The fury is not garbage at all, it's way better than the bulldog, the bulldog is the real garbage weapon, it deals mediocre splash and is in general an horrible AI weapon infinitely surclassed by the cobalt

    • @armvex
      @armvex 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe, but I personally did not have fun using it. Bulldog Isn't garbage! But I admit it is a high floor skill use.

    • @CMDRCyrious
      @CMDRCyrious  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, a fury does out dps a bulldog, but its splash is garbage for infantry. It's only use is close range AV combat. I guess I don't run into enough bad tankers that would let themselves get caught that close to a double fury bus. They could easily out range it.
      The kobalt is certainly the premiere AI weapon, but it is ineffective against other armor. A bulldog allows you to be competent against infantry, and blow up other sunderers that get close.
      The fury is just to niche at this point unless you are just going around charging tanks or sunderers and focusing on fights where you can 3v2 or 3v1. That is three man bus vs 1 man or 2 man tank.

    • @Timithos
      @Timithos 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah what Cyrious said. Double fury is a very specific situational loadout that sacrifices most all versatility on the battlefield. Like double kobalts are really most for looking for an infantry xp/cert farm, not providing practical versatility.

    • @raffa0001
      @raffa0001 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CMDRCyrious
      That's exactly what i've been doing with my 3 man crew, tank ganking with battlebus, it's pretty much a meme, but if you get close enough the armor can't do much to win the fight, only the magrider has the chanse to flee, the vanguard can't do much to fight back, just don't try it against prowlers. Also If you know you're going to face enemy armor at close quarters (like inside biolabs, amp stations small corridors etc...) it's pretty much the go to weapon, in general i still prefer double basilisk over the bulldog due to versatility unless i know the enemy is going to hide behind corners, i really can't find it useful anywhere else, it's fun to use due to the splash, but i find it extremely uneffective due to the slow fire rate and the atrocious splash ttk on infantry itself.
      The only bulldog i appreciate is the air bulldog, that's quite good, fast, precise and even packs a real punch on armor.
      Also i play on Miller, the only organized tanker outfit there is the vanu CABO and me and my couple of friends routinely trash them after they bully all the other tankers on the server.

    3:34 actually the sunderer m12 kobalt is superior to the sunderer m20 bassilisk for the purpose of dealing with esfs and harrasers.
    For this purpose the m12 kobalt features many advantages over the m20 bassilisk, these being:
    -a higher muzzle velocity of 650m/s -> 550m/s
    -a higher maximum dps against harrasers of 238,33(m12)->219,36(m20), as well as a higher minimum dps against harrasers of 183,52(m12)-> 146,54(m20)
    -a higher maximum dps against esfs 458,33(m12)-> 365,63(m20), as well as a higher minimum dps against esfs of 352,92(m12)->244,24(m20).
    -a longer damage drop off range of 110m(m12)->100m(m20).
    -a larger magazine of 100 rounds(m12)->50 rounds(m20) (and more importantly a larger damage potential pr. magazine)
    So if a mix of esfs, harrasers and or infantry is the primary threat, the m12 kobalt is indeed the better option for your sunderer, of course using the m12 kobalt will prevent you from inflicting any damage at all to lightnings, mbts, galaxies, liberators, ants and sunderers, as these are fully immune to small arms (which the m12 is classified as, unlike the m20 which is a heavy machine gun).

    Hear me out.
    Disagree with Blockade Armour. I think nanite auto repair is more useful for direct action. I'll give you a scenario that is common on PS4 when fighting on Hossin. I have an Auto Rep bus, I have 2 gunners (engi) and me the driver (Engi) I carry a rep grenade bandoleer. I have killed Vanguards this way along with magriders. While engaging and mid/close range and hitting them from behind, I will wait till I have enough health to escape, round a corner or something to break line of sight, I get away fast enough and far enough to toss a rep grenade, have all 3 of us heal. By the time the Vanguard rounds that corner at half health, the bus will be full. This works in smaller/meduim size fights and can also help in vehicle convoys. I usually use Bulldogs with maxed out ammo cap.
    Blockade armour is kinda crap because you cant stay as long. Auto Rep helps because it repairs faster, and since blockade has been nerferd so much it just isnt useful. You can always come around a corner heal up and return really fast.
