    This is more...I made a 3D printed robot out of wood and plastic custom pieces. Not really helpful as I don't have a laser cutter or cnc machine or any way to create these pieces myself. I use junk pieces to build. But, still a very good video and build. Exceptional work. And a lot of attention to detail.

  • @mannygibbs5429
    @mannygibbs5429 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great build!!!!
    Styrene can be cut on the laser cutter. I used to use 15% speed and 5% power on a 60w machine. To prevent melt and v-edges, I would make 3-4 passes on 1.5mm sheet. It would never completely cut the parts out but also wouldnt take much force to break them out. My parts were always really close in tolerance to the blueprints. Only drawback is fumes.....not toxic like PVC but probably not good either. But I feel the same about wood or acrylic fumes anyway. Either way, only do if you have a good exhaust!

    • @CutTransformGlue
      @CutTransformGlue  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a lot buddy! Unfortunately I can't use styrene on the laser cutter... That's a policy of the maker space I go. They only allow users to cut acrylic and wood, mostly because of the fumes, even though they got a great exhaust system.

    • @mannygibbs5429
      @mannygibbs5429 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CutTransformGlue Fair enough. I didn't catch that part. Either way, you're build is amazing and inspirational. I'd be content to hand cut styrene if it meant getting results you make with the medium you use. Gonna get off of my @** and start building again. Thanks! Subscribing now.

    Nice, great work. Do the leg joints actually work or do you fixate them in a good position?

    • @CutTransformGlue
      @CutTransformGlue  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks a lot! So the legs are separated in three parts, and at each joint I'm using a bolt and a nut to make it stable.. I'm thinking about leaving it with no glue so that I can "change" the pose

    The ball joints are awesome! I know you could make your joints so the robots would stay moveable. I have to play with my toys after I make ‘em. Can’t help myself. MDF seems to keep an excellent finish with little work. Do you have to seal it at all? Seems like the primer locks it right up.

    • @CutTransformGlue
      @CutTransformGlue  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a lot! The primer seals the MDF just fine.. But nowadays I'm kinda slowly phasing it out, gonna stick to the acrylic and styrene, mainly!

    Instead of sanding the edges before gluing, you can just flip one piece and the angles will cancel each other and be straight.

    • @CutTransformGlue
      @CutTransformGlue  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah you're totally right about that! Still, sanding may give you more roughness for the glue to grab.. The laser cutter kinda makes the edge a bit less "impermeable".. But you're right about the matching angles, I've done that some times!

    Only thing that i find I'm not liking ( and something i've learnt watching you thanks) is the roughness of the paint on the wood surface. Maybe some clear PU varnish and fine grit sanding on the laser cut parts before placing them on the model will make an improvement. just to seal them so to speak.

    • @CutTransformGlue
      @CutTransformGlue  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that's for sure an issue! Are you using MDF or "real" wood? For MDF I find that a coat of primer and some light sanding is enough for a nice smooth surface

    • @trevorvanzuydam8115
      @trevorvanzuydam8115 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CutTransformGlue real wood is terrible to use unless completely hidden. I guess paint, resin, epoxy, sealer, anything would seal the surface and allow a smooth surface to come through.

    Your german translation is crap. It says "scratch-house one Fight-Robotmodel" Better call it "Scratch-Building eines Modell-Kampfrobotters" oder "Kampfroboter wie man ein Scratch-Build-Modell baut" the hyphening is wrong but more easy to understand ... oh I just see, all your videos say Scratch-Gebäude that means rather Scratch-house then scratch-built, just keep the english term. Probably other Auto translations will have the problem too :))) Nice build anyway.
