  • Join us as we continue our early retirement adventures, leaving the Scottish Isle of Mull and heading to beautiful Glen Coe and the less well known Glen Etive in our VW Campervan, Nelson. We dodge the weather to get some great photo opportunities in the stunning Glen Coe, hunker down for the night as a storm hits and we hide out in Glen Etive for some well earned down time.
We are Richard and Jackie and we live in the UK. We have chosen to early retire from teaching during the summer of 2022 at the age of 51. We are currently on a 10 day road trip to the Isle of Mull, with just 2 ferry tickets and our desire to find the hidden wild places.
You will soon realise that we are complete TH-cam beginners with all the challenges of creating and publishing videos ahead of us, not to mention uploading when on the road.
Please subscribe and like our videos if you like what you see.

    Many thanks,
    Richard & Jackie

I’m gradually working my way through your wonderful vlogs. I too really love Glen Coe it’s just a shame it’s so busy now.
When I was much younger at school my school had a bothy at the head of Glen Etive and I spent many a fun few days hill walking, camping etc there. The school rented it from the Fleming family who owned the land and at that time still had a large house half way down the Glen on the left side of the road where Ian Fleming did some of his writing hence the reason for using the area in Skyfall. I camped in their garden on my Gold D of E expedition!!
At the end of the road before the old pier is a wee white cottage on the right hand side. That was our school’s bothy. A magical place. Many happy memories.

What a fabulous experience to have from a school trip! We fell in love with Glen Coe, Glen Etive and Ballachulish Moor about 5 years ago and have been back several times. We have stayed out of season for a few nights in the carpark at the end of the road by the loch side of Glen Etive which was wonderful. I hadn't realised that Ian Fleming had lived down there! I just thought it was a filming spot for one of the movies. Is it the big Manor House that has high fences right by the road side. I took more notice of it because of the highland cows in their field! We have plans to go up again soon as we want to do lots of hiking - we were rained off on the last trip.

@@earlyretirementwanderlust yes the large house on the left is as you travel towards the loch
It was owned by the Fleming family when I stayed in the garden in a tent
We had to write to them and ask permission to camp there!
I know that Ian Fleming spent time there and did some writing there but I believe he lived elsewhere
It’s a long time since I’ve been down there
We used to get the train from Edinburgh where I lived to Bridge of Orchy and then cycle down to the bothy by the loch
Your vlog brought back happy memories

Another great video, I just stumbled on your channel and enjoying the videos. Retiring at 50 sounds great, but also scary. We get our campervan 1st February and looking forward to trying to beat your 500 nights in 4 years! ha ha. All the best.

You have so much fun ahead of you and so many amazing places to explore. We still get excited just spotting a nice weather window and planning where to go and love that we can have longer holidays in Europe not in the school holidays 🚐🥾

Wow Glen Etive looks stunning. We’ve drove past on many occasions always wandering what it would be like. Do you think we would have any problems in a 7.4 Mtr van?

It is a long windy single lane road with passing spaces. The bin men do get to the end but there are not many turning spaces. It is about 14 miles to the Loch at the end

Disappointing; why not the landscapes and rivers and falls of Glen Coe--
    you know, nature.
It gets better for a bit around 5.40.
I'll give you a thumbs up with qualifications.
