      Sean Carroll has exposed some of what Krauss says to be complete nonsense. I'd like to see those 2 have a conversation because I think Krauss is using language that can appeal to a broader audience and in doing so is getting the physics wrong as a byproduct of using that language.

      I don’t know what the fuck we live on. But, gravity is just a theory. You gotta know that. Not even a good theory if you actually think about it. My point being is, no need to make fun of flat earthers. If you looked into flat earth there are some definite arguments of what we’ve all been taught. I’ll tell you what. I’m now convinced we have all been lied to on a grand scale. I’m not saying I believe either way. I’m not pickin a text fight here by all means. Just some understanding for those who believe in flat earth. There is now 10s of millions and growing fast who believe in flat earth. They can’t all be nuts....can they.

Was looking at related books and saw him co-authoring with with Krauss and someone else and will be reading this after. Prior to these podcasts I had much less understanding (near as much an interest) and am now very much looking forward to understanding these concepts with the simplicity these gentlemen are able to convey them to me to (with the understanding they fully understand them). Ideas that will blow my mind simply, "so amazing you couldn't make them up." To paraphrase a cliche statement.
    Truly hope Joe keeps getting guests like this on occasionally (or more than occasionally) because he's able to conceive of and ask questions I wish I could have thought to ask a mind like Krauss, where I might think I would but would be at a loss sitting down with him, Joe's interested for everybody listening and learning constantly himself.

      It is unwise to insist upon a literal interpretation of figurative statements of which the inaccuracy may, at any moment, be rendered evident by the progress of scientific discovery; but the fundamental propositions of religion, so far from having anything to fear from the discoveries of science, are strengthened and ennobled by being brought into harmony with those discoveries. And it is only when the religious sentiment shall have been enlightened by its union with scientific truth that religious belief, thus rendered invulnerable to the attacks of skepticism, will take the place of skepticism in the minds and hearts of men.

    • @markdelej
      @markdelej 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      ka boom!! Well i did my undergrad degree in physics and that 90% of atoms being empty space is not true. It is just something people always say to try show that science is amazing but is not really the case. At the scale of an atom protons and neutrons are in the centre and around them is a electron “cloud”. This cloud is like the electron is smeared out into all places at once, and each position around the nucleus has a probability associated with the electron being there. But while nothing is measuring the electron, it is in a super position of all possible locations around the nucleus (like a smeared out wave/cloud). So when you see an atom drawn on paper of an electron orbiting a nucleus like the way planets orbit the sun, that is not real at all. However when you do measure the position of an electron round a nucleus, all possible positions will collapse, except one, where it will seem the electron is in one position. If you go on google images and type in “electron cloud” it will give you a better picture of an atom. Then type in “electron orbitals” and that will show you the complex shapes that electron clouds can be in. That is much more realistic to what is going on.
      The simple picture of an atom with electrons orbiting around like planets is still very useful for scientists as it simplifies the picture and we can still calculate and predict things from that picture, so it is a simple model, but is not actually real.

      behdabra jmo119 No, if he's going to come alone with no opposition. We have to take his word like it's religion.
      Please help me understand this;
      THEY claim, there are black holes because THEY can view stars orbit around them however every repeatable, observable, measurable experiment that YOU and I can do will show all the stars rotate around the North Star Polaris in perfect circle without intersecting.
      Look up time lapse of stars!
      At one point in the interview after saying some bs without evidence he says "I know it sounds crazy but it's true" This is religion not science.
      You know you've lost an argument when you attact people's character and that's what Krauss does with Flat Earth. Even though earlier he mentions science isnt rigid and we should be skeptical. Haha wake up people and truely be skeptical.
      Rogan is a very critical thinker in many different subjects but for some reason he has a block when it comes to cosmology.
      Remember at the end of it all "scientists" like Krauss get paid a lot of money to create math that you and I CANNOT understand. Only the enlightened physicist after spending years on the one solution created will make sense of it. This sounds like religious folks and their holy book that only a few can truely understand the original texts. Hahaha, it's the same thing!
      I'm not religious so I can't believe anything that I cannot with repeatable, measurable, observable experiments prove myself.
      The great Tim Ferriss always quotes Mark Twain - When you find yourself in the side of the majority (Believing in scientists, instead of knowing the experiments) it is time to pause and reflect.

    Lawrence Krauss explaining Gauge symmetry seals the deal for all existential debates. We're all defining the same thing using different words but no matter how we define it, the laws remain the same. So no matter if you have a scientific or religious view point on life and the universe, it doesn't matter. We're describing the same thing using different terminolgy. So let's get on merging our views of the physical and metaphysical into one and finally start making real evolutionary progress.

      123k1rky123 jmo119 No, if he's going to come alone with no opposition. We have to take his word like it's religion.
      Please help me understand this;
      THEY claim, there are black holes because THEY can view stars orbit around them however every repeatable, observable, measurable experiment that YOU and I can do will show all the stars rotate around the North Star Polaris in perfect circle without intersecting.
