Hey James, nice seeing you back! It’s good you are reading different things; if you haven’t read it yet Paradise Lost is a favorite poem from a favorite poet. For more literature and poetry check out Harold Bloom, he is a critic. One of his books is “The Western Canon” and others on William Blake. Cheers. -Lucio Constantine
😁 ah James my man, what a treat. really enjoyed this fella: watched while doing the dishes this sunny early-evening and was thoroughly entertained & enlightened among the suds; so thank you 🧼 you made me hoot with laughter with ‘dah someone’s probably going to crucify me for saying “Shakespeare” was only “alright”’ 🤣 brilliant, and I’m still chuckling now as i type that 👏 You’ll be reassured to know that you’re in good company: TS Eliot said that however dazzling Hamlet was, it was an ‘artistic failure’, something to do with structure and plot i believe. I’m a huge Hamlet advocate myself but i very much know what you mean, and i adore MacBeth too 🎭 did you ever see the Zeffirelli adaptation with Mel Gibson (very fine; best ghost scene of all too with Paul Scholfield as Hamlet senior 👻 👑 notice how sibilant and evil he seems: Z clearly chose the Ghost is a Devil line with him; a decision all directors must grapple with)? he said somewhere when asked ‘why is the run-time so short?’ that he wanted to make Hamlet as if it was Macbeth, which is a glorious answer i think. Excited about The Savage God and v much hope you end up making one of your essay form videos of it one day. Anyway, great stuff my friend; and best wishes on the uni results 💫 feel sure you’ll have done really well.
Thanks for checking out the vid John! Plus your insightful anecdotes (especially the justification of my mild distaste for Hamlet!). I have something coming up on Savage God which isn’t an essay - though it’s worth one… Cheers! 🤙
Excellent to hear and see that you are reading a wide variety of books, excited to see your forthcoming book reviews.
Kindly review Phenomenology of Spirit.
I have just purchased it online. It’s been on my list for ages. Time to check it out I think! Cheers for the reminder!
