This was such a great stream, especially with Jim's input when he was in the fire department and his experience with radios and how it fits in listening to scanners.
P25 is a form of digital radio, encoded with a specific vocoder scheme. Decoding is the act of applying a vocoder scheme to turn bits(1s &0s) into voice after demodulation. P25 includes a modulation scheme and encoding scheme. P25, DMR, NXDN, and dPMR uses AMBE+2 protocol standard to encode digital voice.
Decrypting is the only part of radio that interests me. Unfortunately. Back in 6th grade when I learned CB is limited to 4 watts, I ended up with a huge box full of 2879 Transistors and had to unplug my parents washing machine to run the giant amp haha. I talked all over the world on 3500 watts PEP Now I’m 40 and craving some shady radio fun, it’s been since 1995

Jim is a treasure to the community!
Decode means the key is published and decrypt means code is harder to get. Thanks for that bit of wisdom!
LOL, thanks for clearing it up James!
@@CoffeeandHamRadios can’t believe I didn’t catch that slip!
No. It's just converting the P25 digital stream to audio.....there is no key.
