      @PSUdaemon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      How is this like hacking computers? There is no security here that you are circumventing. Claiming hacking in this situation is like walking through the town square nude and then claiming people are peeping Toms.

      @@PSUdaemon Hacking definition: The gaining of unauthorized access to data in a system or computer. You are assuming that as there is no security as such it makes it less of an offence. Your local taxi company may use DMR radio and give out address and name details to drivers, however, just because a 50 quid radio can pick it up does not make it a GDPR issue. The law is quite clear on radio interception and protects them from any breach.

    • @michaelkaliski7651

      Listening to any non commercial or amateur band broadcast is strictly illegal in the UK. The law is not often enforced but where information is intercepted and acted upon, then really bad things start happening. Witness the penalties, fines, and compensation being handed out for the newspaper phone hacking stories. If someone just listens covertly and never reveals the contents of what is overheard, then there is little the authorities can do because nobody will ever know. In some countries the mere possession of equipment capable of receiving these signals is a serious criminal offence which will result in a long term of imprisonment without appeal. SDR dongles are available everywhere, but connecting them up to a computer rather than a TV kind of gives the game away, especially if the computer is seized for examination. Just something to be aware of when travelling.

    I found in my case the audio from your device can be hit or miss especially for like Pocsag/Flex and unless you have a very strong signal it usually misses. The more tried and true way is to tap into the correct IF stage in your radio and with an interface (available) plug that into your computer com port. This method has given me 100% results. Again audio only maybe fine but maybe only if receiving strong signals, just my experience.

    Pagers are still very much used in Australia as well, the biggest are Medical and emergency services.
    We do have a few networks still active outside of the above 2, but they mainly just transit alarms and dat, with the odd personal message here and there

      To be honest some folks do suffer even at 153. This is why sotabeams sell a bandpass filter. They also bleed into 137 for those of us doing weather satellites. There’s even now a signal actually in the band too, which is worse! It’s so wide and blasts everything on the sides

    ACARS messages should not be compared with ADSB. ADSB is a public beacon which can be used public to locate aircraft.
    ACARS instead belongs to the aircraft radio transmissions which are restricted to air personell in some countries. Unlike ADSB it can be illegal to decode ACARS messages.
