Well done, but twice bad points to Dell: first for putting a consumable like that battery in a place that's so difficult to access and secondly for making a BIOS which doesn't even allow getting into the BIOS if the battery powering the CMOS RAM is causing the latter to malfunction. They should be able to detect that type of failure and operate with sensible defaults hardcoded into the BIOS to at least give the user some options and decent error indication.

3:47 What does this wire do? I accidentally ripped off this wire and plug when I opened my dell, but absolutely nothing seems to be wrong now. Everything works as normal.

@@these-my2rj Thanks for your reply. I took it apart following your video and got it working but couldn't manage to follow your instructions in reverse to reassemble. A video of reassembly would be very useful for us old guys with poor memory

I have a Dell Latitude E7240 which powers on but no display and no hdmi output, when I plug the charger in the system boots up without display:
    - Power button led comes on
    - Hard drive led flashes once very quickly
    - Battery led comes on for one second
    - After 4 seconds the power button led goes off
    - After another 4 seconds the power button led comes back on and stays on, the hard drive led flashes once very quickly
The green leds on the actual msata SSD light up
If I leave the system in this state then the cpu and heatsinks get hot and eventually the fans will spin (but still no display)
Pressing the power button once will turn off the system (cpu will cool down, msata leds will turn off)
    I’ve tried the following:
    - Performed hard reset / static discharge, disconnected and checked cmos battery (3v on multimeter)
    - Replaced RAM, msata, screen with known working
    - Tried booting while holding down ESC, D, FN keys
    - Tried HDMI output (no output)
I’d really appreciate any other suggestions / tips, could it be a corrupt bios? Thanks in advance

@@darattaqwa how did you do that any link yo try that too?

    • @darattaqwa
      @darattaqwa 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@Playlouder_ you have to use a CH341A programmer (buy cheap on eBay) with free software, if you are lucky you might not need to disassemble the E7240 (it’s very time consuming) and you might be able to clamp the CH341A connector onto the bios chips (there are 2 bios chips), if the clamp doesn’t connect properly then you’ll have to disassemble the whole laptop to get the motherboard out, basically you have to erase the chips and re-flash with fresh bios files (tricky to find the bios files, but I was lucky I had another working E7240 so I just read the bios chips and saved as 2 files) then used these to flash the bios chips on the faulty laptop. This got the laptop working again HOWEVER there was a delayed boot, approx 1-2 mins delay before the laptop booted into windows, I later learnt this was due to something in ME REGION, so the bios files need to ME REGION CLEANED before flashing to get rid of the delayed boot.. you might not get the delayed boot, it just depends, hope this helps

@@darattaqwa thanks a lot I’ll try that too! First I’ll try to disconnect the cmos battery, my laptop just died and I don’t know why
