Grizzly Bear Chases Elk in Yellowstone NP

  • In the Hayden Valley area of Yellowstone National Park, a grizzly bear chased a herd of elk relentlessly. On this day, the elk managed to escape. At this time of year, when elk calves are being born, the grizzly stay busy hunting, trying to find the elk calves hidden in the sagebrush. For the most part, grizzlies are opportunists and often steal carcasses from the wolves so it is not often that we see one chase a whole herd of elk. This footage was filmed in 4K and saved in 4K but You Tube reduced it.

    what blows my mind is the ease in which that bear can navigate through that THICK BRUSH. That brush is probably 3 or 4 feet tall and that bear plows through it at 30 mph. what an unbelievable animal.

      Big size yet
      Still runs that fast with stamina to match.
      Am thinking somebody used their size and bullied their way to front when speed was being handed out.

      Get the hell out of there? Yeah but if it's chasin yah you’re not supposed to run cause it triggers any predators prey drive to chase and kill. You shouldn't be in bear territory without a gun anyways that you made sure it works before you head out to any big forest, only time you run is if you know forsure you can climb a tree or get to safety, alot of bears do false charges if you run and its close and you have nowhere to go you can 100% guarantee you just put yourself on the menu.

    Guessing from the age of the kids at the time, a little over 20 years ago in Hayden Valley a little over a mile north of Mud Volcanos we watched a grizzly chase some elk, mostly yearlings we thought, and in the bigger sagebrush one elk was having trouble and the grizzly just plowed through the sage and caught the elk and started to consume it on the spot. It was across the river from where we were. Awesome memory. This video must have been taken within two miles of our sighting.

      And sad the fact that humanity has destroyed it by constant touching of remote environmental habitat lands of natural wildlife over the last 10,000 years. And still many trees are getting cut down more than ever before! This is why I feel like dying, there is literally no peace, and encroachmentless areas of pockets of vast land fields left of forests. Too bad that we had to civilize in order to survive on Thoris planet earth. But again what we could is totally under our control but we chose the dirty over the clean, oh well.. L APE SOCIETY! Fr fr!

      Yes bears are fast they can run at 50-55kmh, a black bear could maybe run at 55-57 kmh a polar one at 40 kmh and wolves ( they share a ancestor) at 60kmh so I do not think u should underestimate.

    This video demonstrates the #1 reason why visiting National Parks in America is so damn annoying: the Constant Mindless Chatter of the Ignorant Tourists.
    And this Chronic Need to Talk seems greater in America than almost any other country. It's as if a culture that has been spoon-fed a steady diet of play-by-play in sports, and video games, just cannot CONTROL ITSELF when it comes to talking.
    How many people even know the art of just standing there and quietly observing? Do we really HAVE to tell everyone around us what we see? Do we think that everyone else is blind?

      @somedude9528 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on the bear. Some bears easily catch elk/other prey. Some do not.
      In bears in general, it can depend from bear-to-bear.

      that's what they do most of the time, yes. But they can cacth adults as well, they have way more stamina and that bear was not on full speed. It wasn't even going after the adults, it was trying to find hidden calfs if there were any.

    NICE JOB Filming this bear and elk. I was surprised you captured so much with all the humans standing around. Ha Ha... Hopefully he fills his hungry rumbly tummy soon!! I haven’t been to Yellowstone since I was a kid and Thank you for sharing until I can make a visit sometime in my life it was nice to see. I donate to the Wild life foundations that help protect them even the wolves. Documentary on Netflix all about our cause if you get a chance to check it out. It’s really amazing. :) Jennifer ~
