    It's difficult to tell from a video but if I had to guess I would say it was exhaust related. The car is far too new for rust to be and issue so it could be something as simple as a missing or broken exhaust hanger. Can you tell where the noise is coming from?

    I have had the base model of this car with the 6 speed manual transmission for two years, the paint does chip easy and power isnt impressive but it has been practical. The manual transmission at highway speeds spins around 3,200 RPM, i wish it was a lower rpm at highway speeds, less rpms means less wear over the long term but so far i like it. I bought it with 53k miles and im around 76k. I live in updated ny and im planning on under coating it, some minor surface rust is starting to show. Great practical car and i average 30mpg with a lot of room, with proper winter tires it handles great in the snow the traction control and abs are responsive. I go snowboarding often and only had issues goin up icy roads with the stock tires, once replaced i had more control.

    When I accelerate uphill my car does more of a rattling/knocking sound. Sounds like something is loose & clunking around in there. Other than that, I enjoy my basic/cheaper Kia Soul. I've put more money into it as far as accessories but hate that I have to for issues that shouldn't be there; like that noise when I accelerate. Hope you get that fixed on your end, let me know if you find out info on what it could be!

    Thanks for the update! Car still looks good sans the rock chip issues....bummer there. Not sure about that sound, but it's odd to say the least. Have you had your Kia dealer auto shop take a listen? Might be a simple solution to get rid of it. I'd definitely take it in if it gets worse or becomes more frequent. I'm sure you know to do that. I purchased a new 2015 Soul + and absolutely love it! Haven't had any issues with chipping, but I added on a paint and interior protection package so that may have something to do with it. No bug guard on my green baby, but I wouldn't mind having one. I can't compare it personally to an older model, but my Soul + has plenty of pep and doesn't make any odd sounds when I rev it up even in Eco mode. I love that little eco button. I usually get around 29mpg with mixed driving, about half in the city and half on the highway.
    Thanks again for the update! Great video!

  • @christianobrien4465
    @christianobrien4465 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    That noise is either normal under heavy acceleration where the throttle body opens wide open and is noisy under the hood because of it (likely the sound you're hearing) or its lots of exhaust gas forcing through the manifold then into a slightly different size exhaust pipe slamming inside the catalytic converter (where a honeycomb filter slows exhaust down) and that noise is resonating through the exhaust pipe before the actual resonator. So its loud under acceleration. Some guys like it some want smooth quiet power. Or your exhaust pipe is rattling against the underbody under acceleration and the dealer or a muffler shop CAN fix it cheap.

It came with the manual 6 speed, I hear that buzzing sound too I live in a rural area and going up hill I hear that sound. I enjoy driving it I'm a elderly man and the gas savings from driving my 1992 Chevy Silverado 4x4 is night and day. Instead of paying $63.00 for a half a tank of fuel the soul only take $28.00 of course it only has a 12.6 gal tank. I get 32-34 mpg compared to 15mpg in the truck. That sound sounds like you have air leaking into your intake system. Like the rubber hose coming from the air filter box going to the throttle body is cracked and leaking air when under high load. Is your cheek engine light ever on? I see in the description you say it had carbon buildup but that makes even less sense.

    I know this comment is coming years later. I'm curious how long your engine lasted? We had multiple issues on ours including a blown gasket and piston slap. Our most recent engine woe caused the entire engine to need replacing. We'd gotten our model from carmax, so no warranty. Just upgraded to the 2020 kia soul EX which will thankfully cover those issues. I'm just curious if we ended up with a lemon or those engine issues costing thousands of dollars are common.

  • @kleinco
    @kleinco 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I don't think it's anything engine related, and the fact that the fuel injector cleaner appeared to lessen the issue was a mere coincidence. I would agree that it's probably something in the exhaust due to the sound, and since it happens during acceleration, which is when the exhaust is receiving the most attention. Or, perhaps, since the car is at a higher RPM when the sound happens, it's vibrating a loose heat shield or panel of some sort. Since it's so audible, it's probably metal on metal, so a heat shield, or exhaust piece would likely be the issue.

    • @bmaroney514

I wish I still had it intact.
    My question is about the POSSIBLE "blind spot" on the Kia SOUL, since the back sides have that wider than normal area. I GUESS since YOU nor any of the couple of others who's review videos I've watched haven't mentioned it, it must NOT be an issue, just making sure your side mirrors are in a position so you can see on BOTH sides of the car SHOULD be good enough. Backing up IS easier IF the backup camera works, BUT, mine doesn't. BTW, anyone having a Kia SOUL, has it continued to perform well over the years?

    Nitpick the stuff that is definitely a QC issue. Not stuff that's out of the manufacturer's hands, such as rock chips. Either you are following large dump trucks or your driving on dirt roads. Needless to say rock chips are common in people who follow to close. Jmho.
    The noises you here are because you have a 1.6ltr. I4. The Soul is kinda heavy to have that motor and Kia should have dropped it from their lineup years ago.

      It's my video, I can nitpick anything I want! But seriously, the paint continues to chip ALL OVER the car. The paint quality is horrible.
