Today, I sit down to discuss my favorite book covers! Book covers and the object of the book is part of what makes reading so fun. Book cover design and illustration is an important part of a book. In this video, I go over my favorites (just from what I have on my bookshelf). Some of my all time favorites from this collection are: The Idiot by Elif Batuman, Pizza Girl by Jean Kyoung Frazier, and Pure Color by Sheila Heti. These are books that I love because of their unique design approach/artistic style, their use of color or typography, or their overall vibe. These covers make me want to read the book! Next I dive into certain categories. The first category is classics: where I discuss the iconic cover of The Great Gatsby, specifically a copy I found at a used book store. I love when a book has some wear and tear that shows its age. I also show two Virginia Woolf covers, and talk about how special it is when a book is so well known that the cover art doesn't have to do much to describe or convince people to read it, besides being pretty and conveying the overall vibe. The next category is book covers that use artwork. The most popular amongst these is probably My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh; I love the way this one combines old and new with an old classic painting and very modern hot pink type. Lastly, my favorite category is: all pink book covers! I always find myself drawn to pink books such as The Woman Destroyed by Simone de Beauvoir.

Thanks for sharing these book covers! I also like books a lot for just their covers and their inspirational presence in my room. Since you asked, one of my own favorite book covers is the one of 'Fashion Drawing' by Michele Wesen Bryant (second edition, from 2016). The portrait on that cover is stunning in it's elegance and simplicity. For completeness, I checked inside for the credits: this front cover illustration is by Tina Berning, she also has a website you can check out.
