  • Large commercial ships entering the port of Southampton have to negotiate two very tight turns to stay in deep water and avoid the Bramble bank.
Small boats and other leisure craft that use this area should know how to stay safe in this area, and in this video we explore the 'Precautionary Area' in the Central Solent, and talk about the risks when crossing the Solent from Cowes to Southampton water.

Please do check out our channel. There are quite a few videos showing us entering a wide variety of destinations on the Solent - many have some pilotage information

Yet another great, and informative video. You speak with a great deal of authority and technical knowledge. As a matter of interest, where you ever a professional seafarer?
Thanks again for your very professional and well edited videos.

Thanks John. I have been a Commercially Endorsed RYA/MCA Yachtmaster since 2004. But I’ve only worked on Leisure boats. Usually my own. There is a bit of my sailing history in the video on our last boat
