    Humility is a great friend of greatness. Mike Holmgren said similar thing about Joe Montana when he got the first NFL coaching job as the QB coach of 49ers. Joe Montana was coming off his MVP season and he told Mike Holmgren the first time they met "Coach me hard.". Mike ends up mentoring 3 HOF QBs after that, "Joe Montana gave me the freedom from the beginning.". Jordan and Montana, they are my GOATs in their sports.

    MJ is a southern boy. He learned respect for his elders at home. In addition, there is hardly a Carolina player who doesn't respect who Coach K is. Likewise, I expect Duke players to have respected Dean Smith and now Roy Williams. Cream recognizes cream. There's no harm in respecting those you know to be tops in their field. Its been confirmed through multiple sources, Pippen, Phil Jackson, Horace Grant, and various sports writers, and entertainers that have met him. Hell his Hall of Fame speech gives you a good idea of who MJ is. But the great thing about life is people are multi-layered and cannot be fit into one box. Even if someone is a mean person, it doesn't mean they are incapable of being nice.

    • @AHMAD-2324

      ralx225b I've never heard not one ex teammate of his ever say that Jordan was a bad guy. Not once so I don't know where you got that info from but I've yet to read anything like that. And believe me I've looked...I seen Bullshit printed by people who didn't know him personally. But his Friends like Charles Oakley, Barkley, Magic, Kobe Mugsy,BJ Armstrong, Patrick Ewing say he's nothing but a great guy. But you know how the media do you when you're that popular. Their now doin it to LeBron oh he's this way oh he's that way. When most them don't know bcuz they don't roam in his circle of friends. So my advice to you is believe none of what you hear...And only half of what you see. Bcuz most of it is gonna be bullshit especially nothing they have on TV!!

      If he, in fact did, it was no where evident when I got a signed autograph from him at a Bulls-Hornets game in Charlotte when the Hornets were in their inaugural season ('88-'89)! It was my junior year in HS and he made the time for me someone he didn't even know and stopped even for just a short minutes-fleeting moment! I treasured it tremendously! So if an ego existed, it was at least absent that night! It's funny because I'd heard the same thing about Mike Mussina the ex Yankees and Orioles star pitcher! He was from my region (Montoursville PA)! Ppl constantly told me he was all about himself and yet when I met him at an autograph signing open to the public, he was down to earth! U know in hindsight, neither of them needed to make time for me but both did! So I commend them for that! It showed me some level of character!

      I wouldnt go that far now. Micheal is the best but Lebron may have faults but disrespectful he isnt. He doesnt have the charm Jordan does and when he tries he usually doesnt come off right. Lebron isnt to blame really because we are the ones causing this drama not him except that one time he got high on crack and told the world he knew at such and such moment he was the best but other than that Lebron has always been hush about that because he knows better and we know better. Someday there will be another goat but it aint in Lebron to be it. Doubt it will be in this decade but someday. Whoever that guy is will have to fight a ghost for many seasons and hit shot after shot in big games till you look silly bringing it up. That person also would have to be equal in charm looks and take control off the court. Tom Brady Deion Warren Sapp Magic or Larry. To be that level icon you gotta have the full package. Why Isiah will never be all that even with the rings etc. Isiah dont have that. Tim Duncan as good as he was no personlity. Why barry sanders isnt on that level. Bo Jackson is though. Why people forget drew brees and jim kelly but peyton and brett favre they tell stories about. Lebron is boring and overrated. Jordan tbh? Is underrated if anything.

    I believe that Jordan’s parents and Dean Smith instilled in him the manners and respect for others that he has displayed all his life. Jordan did not instantly win an NBA championship when he first entered the league. It took years of blood, sweat and tears to reach that goal. Jordan also respected Coach K for what he had accomplished at Duke. How many times did Coach K reach the Final Four before he won an NBA championship? His record of coaching excellence impressed Jordan, who knew exactly how difficult this feat was. Jordan wanted to win, and he believed that Coach K could help him become an even better player.

  • @jorgeeduardodussanvillanue46
    @jorgeeduardodussanvillanue46 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I feel like MJ was much more free to just be himself when he was on the Dream Team. Sure, he was the big dog, but he really respected and maybe even idolized the players and coaches that made up the team to some extent. Therefore, he didn't have to be on edge 100% of the time as he was with Chicago. He let his manners show and he took it less personally. In Chicago it was a different story. He had to carry a whole franchise on his back, media pressure and his own brand. That takes a toll on you mentally, so it is no wonder his leadership was focused on getting the best out of his teammates at any cost. In his mind, in Chicago you had to earn his respect. I don't believe he was an asshole all the way through. When not backed into a corner, he could be a nurturing leader and great teammate. His own success created huge pressure that brought out the dog in him. I can't say I have a problem with it, but I can see how some of his teammates would feel disrespected.

    Another big point in favor of Jordan over LeBron, Jordan was humble enough to ask for help to his coach, on the other hand, LeBron gets coaches fired, and he is un-coachable, don't tell me Lue is the Cavaliers coach, we all know who calls the shots in Cleveland

    I've always been amazed, the team of NBA elites actually took that Olympics seriously. Its a testament to the pros on the team, the coaches, etc. At that time, the NBA elites were head and shoulders above the rest of the world, I could have been the coach and rolled the ball out there and they probably win. But none of them took it for granted, they showed up and did a job.

    Okay, up front, I am a dyed in the wool Carolina fan - HATE Duke. However, I have to say that watching this interview increased my respect for Coach K. Kind of funny, if you think about it, because the interview isn't really that much about HIM as it is about MJ. But what spoke to me was the fact that Coach K had such recognition of, and appreciation for, Michael's attitude toward him and the way he interacted with him. Many people - that is, many LESSER people - would not even have taken any notice of how Michael behaved there - it wasn't a big deal or some moment that was naturally charged with significance. THAT's what impressed me about Coach K here - that he showed a real depth of, for lack of a better word, humanity, by the fact that he DID notice and appreciate MJ's actions.
    The fact that both Coach K and Michael were able to set aside the Duke-Carolina rivalry within the context of, "Okay, here and now we're both on the same team - America's team", is really a testament to the character of BOTH men.
    God, I really effin' hate it when I have to LIKE something about Coach K...it just makes me sick (hahaha).
    Graham - your stuff is always awesome - thanks!

    Chuck Daly was the mastermind behind the Jordan rules and coached the team that bullied and beat up Jordan for most of the late 80's. Krzyzewski coached Jordan's biggest college rival. Team USA selected them to coach the Dream Team. Jordan put all that aside and was very gracious to both. He didn't forgive Isiah Thomas though.

    • @eyelan

      Thomas got his comeuppance for the freeze-out of Jordan in the '88 All-Star Game. He was forced off the Barcelona team along with Dumars, to make room for Jordan and Pippen. Pippen had just been cut and Jordan was not going to Barcelona until Nike talked to him.

    Is it ego if you can back it all up? I don't believe that Michael Jordan is one-tenth of one percent as obnoxious as some perceive him. I never saw it in his playing days; of course I was not his confidante. He might as well have asked, "Are you not entertained?", when The Shot went in that day in June of '98. I remember where I was in that moment.

    You know you are useful when MJ respects you like that. MJ may be the GOAT, but he is rarely the nicest guy around. Not saying he is disrespectful. But he knows how to recognize greatness from worthless. If you are great, he'd respect you. If you are worthless, he'd make you feel 10x over.
    BJ Armstrong said it best in one of his interviews. Even Pip received MJ's wrath in his early years. But guess what, the two are now considered one of the best, if not the best duo in NBA history.

      iii u haven’t heard all of them then if you only speak on the competitive environment ones. Jordan is a DICK frfr 💯 Go look up “chamillionare Michael Jordan”,listen to his story,AND read the multitude of peoples comments describing their experiences meeting Michael,he is far from humble and it’s real low how he treat normal human beings. He knows who to play “respectful” with

    • @baka825
      @baka825 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Red Demon I wonder how Mr. Chamillionare got his credibility because it seems like people just believe him because they wanted Mike to be a jerk, and not because Mike was a jerk. Do you know that on reddit, people meme about meeting NBA players at a local store? Reddit is bad, but not as bad as youtube comments.
      If Mike is as smart as you said, "know who to play respectful with", he'd be respectful to random people because they could be his customers. People said he's stingy and stuffs, but he donated all his earnings from playing in the NBA when he was on the Wizards to 9/11 reliefs.
      Just because some guy on the internet with pretty much no credibility said something, doesn't make it true. How gullible can people be?
