Agreed but he also has the advantage of a long-form environment. Graham gets to interview his guests for anywhere between a couple of hours and multiple days, the later of which makes a JRE pod look kind of short.
I met Michael before all the people you have or had to go through in 1983 in Raleigh NC @ a ACC / NBA barn storming game. He was very gracious to me his smile was infectious he signed my program and shook my hand. He made it personal 😊
I'm no Jordan fan either since I'm a Knicks fan from the 90s. He was an obstacle they didn't overcome unfortunately for us MSG faithful. He always knew how to carry himself though and that came form his upbringing. Parents and siblings were vital to that.
Good story and how anyone can be a hero. Roy was low paid assistant and Mr. Jordan wanted to help him out as a way for saying “ Thank You” for taking a liking/interest in his son and helping MJ develop his basketball skills. Roy saying Mr. Jordan was a hero was deep, because usual people regard a “hero” as a famous person/athletic.
One of my favorite coaches of all time. I remember when he retired it was such a sad day in my house. Jordan was the reason I became a UNC fan, and have watched many games over the years with my children. Love when UNC plays Duke, because my house is always divided.
Roy Williams is an absolute treasure of a man and coach. His coaching clinics are "MUST SEE" I haven't seen one in a long time but when he was at Kansas he gave one that turned me around as a coach and I still use principles of it today in any coaching situation.
I know that MJ knows this already, but I hope that he gets to hear that. Roy was almost in tears. I have heard Roy talk about James before and I truly think that he was speaking the truth. James Jordan was a hero of his.
It’s maybe bizarre but MJs parents I think are probably my favorite all stars parents. Mr Jordan and Delores were such good parents and such good people. MJ was so lucky. Everyone who knows MJ always says that too. All his friends and coaches throughout his career . He was truly grounded at home and had good role models. It is absolutely tragic what happened to his father .

This is excellent excellent stuff. I'm sure Michael attributes most of his success to his father, who was an amazing person and great great Dad. I still remember the day he went missing. RIP Mr Jordan. BTW, Michael is and always will be the GOAT. Wilt and Kobe tied for 2nd. Shaq is 12th. Lebron 7th 🤑😥🤯
Difference between Jordan and Lebron was you didn't have to be afraid of coaching Jordan hard and had excellent coaches that could push him to his potential. If you tried that with Lebron, he would go to the owner and complain about the coach and attempt to get him fired. Team's have enabled Lebron's behavior of not playing any help defense, crying to the officials, not husting back on D, quitting on his teammates.
Agreed. When LBJ dropped 45 in game 5 @Boston, l thought he had a shot if he played the 4 and played off the ball more. But as advertised, he defaulted to the guy you just described.
What I wouldn’t; give to play a round of golf with coach Roy and MJ. I gotta wonder tho, was it a NCAA violation to receive a gift from a recruit’s father?
@@mattslev that’s what I was thinking. These interviews and the sports media make it sound like Michael Jordan is the only player that ever worked hard who accomplished anything who fulfilled his dreams there have been many great NBA players at work just as hard or harder than he has and they're not promoted as much as he was he was the chosen one he was surrounded by very good players in Chicago without those players around him he would not have won all those championships that goes for anybody.
Yea he kinda threw me for a loop when he said nobody worked harder. I'm like how the hell would he know? Kareem kicked more ass throughout his whole basketball career than Mike and it's not even close. Same with Russell.
03:08 So a coach accepting a gift from an athlete's parents doesn't raise any questions about the ethics of that coach? It think this gave an unfair advantage to college student MJ over the other kids on his team.
So Roy Williams explains one goal that Michael Jordan did not work hard enough to achieve-- being the greatest player in North Carolina team history. There is a separate Hall of Fame for NCAA basketball. His first year teammate James Worthy was inducted in its inaugural year. His three year teammate Sam Perkins got in about 10 years afterwards. Michael Jordan is still not in that Hall, although it has inducted more than 150 players over more than 15 years.
