restoration shops in high humid areas epoxy prime the entire car imediately after blasting to prevent future surface rust, then metal work, bodywork and polyester primer.
there are weldable primers that allow to be applied before all the welding and grinding cutting operations, they do not burn, they do not stink and they do not prevent the welding
For those that have never stripped a car before in there own driveway this was a symphony for the eye, I could of sat here for the whole hour and watched those coatings wash away. I certainly want this machine.
I have to ask, as a small business owner, what kind of liabilities there might be? If the media is recycled bottle glass, and paint is being removed, how is that all cleaned up at the end of the job? Can a child with bare feet run across that driveway? I'm not too familiar with that type of blasting media, but I know what having fiberglass insulation come into contact with skin feels like. Are the micro-chips of paint left to wash down the nearest storm drain? Again, I'm not trying to be critical, but if you stop to think that a bunch of contractors building a home are required to erect those fabric dust barriers - for digging dirt, what must the requirements for blasting paint with glass media be? I would imagine that at least a portable shelter with a capacity for containment would be required by most municipalities. I have 2 old cars, and this system looks awesome, compared to the time it takes to do only a small bit of sanding. I think that as a homeowner, if someone didn't mind having the residue melt in with their backyard, they might get away with it, behind a privacy fence. But I would really be careful offering this as a customer based service, without the capacity for containment and disposal.
Brings back memories, I sandblasted a horse trailer year ago and it basically disintegrated into just a frame. Great system, keeps the thin metal cool too I bet to avoid warping.
In 1989 I dropped off my wife's car which was being repainted by the dealer under factory authorization for failure of the clearcoat and underlying paint. A little more than an hour after Ieft the dealer I had to go back to get the garage door opener from the sun visor. The two-man crew working on the car had it 80% to the bare metal where they were located in the corner of the body shop and after seeing this video I believe that they using a process similar to what's shown in this video. My wife, notorious for keeping her vehicles for a long time, admired the paint on her '88 Bonneville SE for the next ten years or so and the finish on that car was an outstanding feature since the dealer did an impeccable job on the repaint.
Ha that’s crazy I just realized y’all are in Hammond when I googled this. I’m a painter over at Bill Hood on North Morrison! This product looks incredible. Might be calling y’all someday.
The video might say dustless but believe me it’s not! I had my 2015 F150 bed done using this method and I didn’t pay $1000.00. Look at the ground in the video that’s the mess that’s left. This method does a great job and I’m happy with the way my truck turned out but there definitely a mess afterwards!
Not bad! I think this method of "dustless blasting" would be really good to strip back previously painted flaking and peeling "brick walls" to its bare substrate.
I just finished helping on a log house job. the medium glass media does a nice job and this rig works well I liked it a lot. only get about 250 hours out of the short coupler hose on the blast tank that I don't know the real name for, but the machine came with three spare ones so that must be normal.
Kick butt setup for sure, but does the local demand make the investment worth while? I suppose this could be used on concrete or any rusty structure…so yeah, maybe I just answered my own question.
That was simply amazing..! I'm curious if this system will work on aviation ? of course the surface is different from a regular car ( car is metal ) aviation ( combination of aluminum, fiberglass and carbon fiber)... Have you ever tested your system on aviation components ?... If you do I might have a idea what aviation company will be interested in this kind of tooling.
What air is needed to make it go? how much does a suitable compressor cost? how much does it consume? How much does a treatment plant and disposal cost for water contaminated by paint removed ? throw it in the toilet a bucket after another or in the rainwater drain?
That annoys me when businesses are booked for months out. Buy more equipment and hire more people. You're inviting competition to move in. Having months of work does not mean you are successful it means you cant handle demand and you aren't satisfying clients. Who wants to wait six months to get their job done?
Hi Maxigo, I'm going to reference you to our international page. At the bottom is a phone number, give us a call so we can get you shipping information www.dustlessblasting.com.au
I have a DB500 . The tool is amazing and performs exactly as shown in the vid. It's a highly effective tool that is worth the money and can earn a company like mine a very nice profit. However, ....the term "Dustless" is *extremely* misleading. Any area you work is is going to be a mess. A MESS! At a minimum, there will be a substantial amount of glass bead (basically sand) all around the work area to recover. If you're lucky enough to be outdoors, many times you can just blow the area with a leaf blower once it's dry (like 20 min) and be done. This week, my guys are blasting miles of rusted water/sprinkler pipe inside a parking garage so we'll have to blow, sweep, shovel and vacuum up the media when we're finished before we wash the floor for line striping. Otherwise, we'd clog the floor drain in seconds. Likewise, whatever you blast will be dirty and have residual glass bead on it as well. You HAVE to do a thorough rinse of the surface afterward and add extra Hold Tight (or whatever rust arrestor you purchase)to most surfaces or they will flash rust very quickly, ...sometimes within an hour or two. We double the recommended amount of HT in the 500 and still rinse with it afterward. I'd rather burn up a little extra $ on chemicals rather than have to pretty much start over on a rusted surface again. Ultimately, you can make nice money with this thing but there is a learning curve and, like anything, you have to sell, sell, sell the service or it will sit and collect dust (pun intended). Few people know what hydroblasting is.
I have a 1,100hp compressor with a crock that holds 400 pounds of sand could I just use that setup for wet blasting I'm curious to how it works what do you guys add into it you said something about glass
You can sweep or shovel up spent media from a hard surface. Another method is blasting the project over plastic sheeting, which can be rolled up and disposed of. Blasting will etch chrome and glass, so if the customer plans on keeping those, they can be masked off with tape and cardboard.
Hi Bob. Spent media will be swept or shoveled up when the job is done. Another technique is to blast over a 6 mil plastic sheet, which can be rolled up and disposed of. With the Dustless process, the media stays within a very small radius, unlike a dry blaster.
There has to be a water hose / supply / source on site ... correct? What is the minimum water pressure that is needed to operate ... if I were at a house with a well and only 30 psi of water pressure, would that be enough to run the machine?
impressive as I have done some small projects with soda blasting and using paint stripper. My question is "how well of a job it does on my multi layer paints (3-4 paint jobs on a car)"? how about fiberglass
This blast was done at 150psi and didn't not deform any body work. The water in the blasting process will actually cool the surface instead of creating heat like traditional blasting. No heat means no warping.
where does the old paint and glass go? Are there other mediums you can use with it? If you don't trap the old paint and glass beads aren't many places going to give you grief over it?
the glass is typically a 40/70 grit and when mixed with water traps the paint and falls to the ground. If on concrete it can be swept up. If you are over another area and want to lay down a tarp - it can be rolled up and disposed of after the job is complete. The media itself is 100% inert and non toxic and won't cause harm to grass, plants or the earth.
Blasting can damage glass and chrome. If the customer wants to keep the glass and chrome, they should be masked off with cardboard and tape prior to blasting. In this case, we just taped the edges. You have enough control over the blast pattern that just doing the edges is sufficient.
When blasting over a hard surface like this, the spent media will be scooped or swept up and disposed of. Sometimes, our blasting business owners build cleanup into their price. Other times, their customers opt to do cleanup themselves to save a bit of money.

So many questions, but here's a few... 1) how is the glass media reclaimed? 2) if there is water/glass media in the air why is he not wearing breathing protection? 3) how many gallons of water did this thing go through?
1.) 40/70 crushed glass media is generally not reclaimed as it shatters on impact and becomes unusable. It is swept/scooped up and disposed of. Luckily, it is inexpensive at about $10/bag (or less depending on your distributor). Some more expensive kinds of media like glass bead can be reclaimed, depending on the use. For example, if you are cleaning pool tiles with glass bead you may be able to use a pool vacuum to reclaim the majority of it. 2.) The water in the Dustless Blasting process suppresses the dust plume making it safe to breathe normally when blasting in open air. We do recommend hand, ear, and eye protection. For comfort, many of our contractors like to use the Nova 3 blast respirator. We highly recommend it. store.dustlessblasting.com/collections/comfort-systems/products/rpb-nova-3-blasting-helmet 3.) The DB500 uses about 20 gallons of water per hour. Hope that helps!
Sooooo... what happens to the abrasive which the narrator said was recycled bottle glass?? Also, where does the paint and primer go that came off the car??
The Dustless process keeps everything contained to a very small radius. When you're done blasting, the spent media and coating can be swept or shoveled up and disposed of. You can also blast over a plastic sheet to make cleanup easier.
Hi Robert, we sell the media at $10 per 50lbs. May need to source it locally at a cheaper price, we sell Black Beauty and Tru brands of recycled glass abrasive. Perhaps you can find those cheaper in your area? Hopefully that helps, feel free to contact us if you need help.
