SVP 100k

Stour Valley Ultra Marathon 2023

The race starts at 7:00 am in Newmarket Memorial Hall with a short walk up the road to the starting line.
No turning back now, klaxon sounds and the race follows the main road and then cuts off into the woods and narrow path that follows the race track.
Check point 1 - 12 miles down and into Great Thurlow, so nice to see my crew and feeling good.
Check point 2 - 23 miles and into Clare Castle Country Park, feeling a bit low but great to see Cath & Jesper and discovered to joy of the ice cold buff.
Check point 3 - 33 miles done and i am at Long Melford Cricket Club, nice to get cheers from the players. The crew did me a proud with a cup of tea. Now the cut offs start to raise their head, time to get out and groove on.
Check point 4 - 42 miles down and have buddied up with @andygage who was awesome at managing the time. Refuelled and cuppa tea drunk, let’s hit the trails.
Check point 5 - 50 miles in and the cut offs are becoming real, Andy has broken down what we have to do and we can do this. Nayland Village Hall got me ready for the next leg.
Check point 6 - 58.5 miles and the last leg. Stratford St Mary and it’s time to put on the head torch and we are going to follow the river Store to the finish. Legs are so tired but we can beat the cut off. Let’s do this.
Finish - 63 miles done and the finish line is in site, Andy blasted out the last 2k and I was chanting out my mantra to get me to the line. So nice to see the finish line in the distance Cath & Jesper cheering me in and the big inflatable arch. Time for the medal shot and pick up my T shirt.
I can’t say cut off times are my thing but it put the pressure on to get it done.
Couldn’t have done it without my crew Cath & Jesper who managed to pick me up and encourage me to get it done and what a great welcome at the end. Also big shout to Andy who got us there.
Thank you SVP crew for the great drinks and nibbles and making me feel special at every check points and always getting me up and out.
