- An explanation (just so the video makes more sense!):
The phrase “canary in a coal mine” originates from a mining tradition dating to the 1910s, when coal miners used canaries to detect deadly gasses in the mines. The birds, being more sensitive, would die from these gasses, which would serve as a warning for the miners and allow them to evacuate with their lives. Nowadays, the phrase is used as an idiom for an early sign of danger.
In the Life Series, Jimmy always ends up dying first. A lot of people point out that Jimmy’s death marks when everything finally falls apart, where permadeaths take place and the carnage of the endgame is nearing.
So when people compare Jimmy to a canary, they’re saying that his death serves as an omen of what’s to come.

I guess it's some cartoony-anime-realistic styles mixed together ? But just call it hex style because it's their artstyle :) but you can find simiral ones all over the internet ! :D

THIS IS SOO GOOD, let me just say, I'm loving all the crane wives in this fandom, and I've also been working on an animatic with a similar premise with this song and this is so cool to see how another person views this song in association with this series and the differences in presentation, what to show and not, and the usage of the lyrics.
It's also so cool seeing the different designs you're using for the characters and the visual effects add so much to this and I greatly applaud you for this
My favorite character designs that you’ve made have got to be impulse, pearl, and tango… especially impulse. I do love all of them though, they’re amazing

Jimmy’s character in the life series is really interesting to me. People like Grian n Scar have something that stays the same with every series, and most other people tend to have consistent themes. But with Jimmy, it’s somebody new each season. I feel like this really speaks to how hard his character tries to fit in in different places and the fear of abandonment that seems to follow him. Great animatic!!
Pearl was pretty different between the two seasons she was in tbh
Fear of being left behind got so hard for him that he let's get himself killed first so no one would be left behind.

The more consistent they are, the longer they survive. With the watcher lore, it could be said that the other retain their past and “real” selves while Jimmy has less of an awareness of the watchers and the fact that he’s in these horrible games.
It would also explain why he has such strong connections and loyalty to others, as it’s more real for him than it is for others.

He didn't escape the coal mine, a miner just happened to go against the precautions and go in before the canary. Though, the canary followed shortly after
I think the canary curse should apply as long as you get out in the first episode where permanent deaths are applicable- also it is note worthy that every time mumbo has been in a series, jimmy goes out seconds before

Just read the description of why Jimmy is the canary in a coal mine. But honestly when I first watched this, I think because of Bird Box. I thought the canary in a coal mine was meant to keep the miners sane. And that when the canary died. The miners that depended on the canary (Scott, Martyn and Tango), lost it. That’s why you see Scott crying at Jimmy’s grave before he soon joins his husband. And Martyn talking to an armour stand, trying to wish Jimmy back to life.
Repeated in Limited Life with Joel and the Bad Boys
I just want to add. The canary in the coal mine is meant to warn something in the air or something bad was happening. The miners would leave and the canary would be stuck there to die. The saying today means that there is a warning ahead or a sogn that something is happening. Basically, Jimmy was the first death that would lead to everyone dying.
Oooh this is so good- the first person POV of Jimmy, then him watching people mourning him,,, I also adore the sequence at 0:30 where it flashes through how he was through the series
I found the ending bittersweet, as it is a look into the next season (season 4) where Jimmy is getting ready to be the canary once more for his friends. Hence the slightly sad smile. But he’s happy enough to do this so his friends survive. It least this is my interpretation.
The canary was freed from his cage but never learned to fly on broken wings.

JUST FINISHED THE PREMIERE AND OH MY GOD THAT WAS AMAZING! OH MY GOD!!! the parts where it was from jimmys pov were AMAZING, like ohhh my god. and the part where he looked to everyone *mourning* him. (i appreciate you SO MUCH for adding martyn!!) and it feels so so bittersweet cause he's the *canary* but god- my therapist will hear about this, thank you very much. the end is so warm... just another start, another story to tell. I think it’s cool how tango and Scott the two people who jimmy are most frequently paired with have heavy associations with the elements of fire and ice because characters with power over those elements are often opposites in temperament and personality which is the case for them as well so the fact that jimmy is close with both of them I think says something about jimmy

This was honestly good to begin with, but with the explanation, it makes so much sense! I always feel bad for Jimmy because of this. Plus, in Double Life, if I'm not mistaken, the greens (Scott, Pearl, Martyn, Cleo) were talking about the reds (Jimmy, Tango, Joel, Etho) and said something about Jimmy dying first anyways, so he'd be the one to kill/capture?
Obviously there are more in the "groups" than I mentioned, just listed the first 4 that came to mind :)

@@natalierizk2519 my memory is fuzzy but i recall the closer Double Life got to it's end, the only greens or yellows were Scott, Pearl, Cleo and Martyn (maybe Grian + Scar?)? Without rewatching, I'm not entirely sure anymore
@@natalierizk2519 i finished double life a few days ago, and at the start at the last two episodes there was one pair of greens (grian and scar), two pairs of yellow (scott and pearl, martyn and cleo), and four red life duos (joel and etho, jimmy and tango, impulse and bdubs, ren and bigb)
joel and etho became red after pearl & grian decided to rod both of them up in the fishing minigame at bdubs and impulses, but the death was only from joel because the two didn’t heal up fully after joel’s first rounds playing. this happened right before pearl and scott became yellow.

Omg I loved this so much!! Ever since your first animatic abt double life I've been waiting for one w timmy tbh, I've never seen a timmy-centered animatic before!! He's one of my fav ppl to watch, and the whole "canary in a coal mine" thing being shown is just perfect (I'm not crying you are). The way it shows all of his alliances, starting with Scott in 3rd life and him giving him the cake, to in last life him being with the southlands and having the spyglasses, to tango profusely apologizing to him when he accidentially got them down to yellow in double life. And the shot of all of his previous homes in the series being all broken and burning down?? Idk if I can do this today 😭✋️and OMG THE PART WHEN MARTYN'S TALKING TO THE PUMPKIN HIM?? 💔 I've never seen that in an animatic before, and I loved it, because it was one of my favorite parts (martyns lore is so cool fr) and it ripped my heart to shreds. And when u see all the other characters in the background, like in one of the last shots where it shows them all crowded around the enchanting table with grain explaining the rules??? All of the character designs are so cute and colorful!

I think the canary in the coalmine thing fits quite well, I did some research so I could be as accurate as possible but the canary in the coalmine is something old miners did (idk if they still do) to check if it was safe, they would send a canary in and if it died it wasn't safe, if not they could go in, it fits Jimmy's character perfectly, he always dies first, he always went first to the arms of death, just like the canary in the coalmine
Another bit is that the canary in the coalmine can also be used as a "I went first, they left me" situation, because the miners sent the canary in willingly, and didn't try and help when obviously they could help, it's one of the reasons I relate, they sent me in, I didn't come out (*cough cough * ex friendship *cough *)
Nice. His last death in double life really was just bad luck. His shield broke, the ground was not on his side, an the enderman. Hopefully he isn't out first in the next season.
