- I decided the other day that I don't think I'd ever fully finish this project but I spent too long on the animatic and boards to let it go unseen.

I discovered Life SMP a few months back when I first watch Grian's Double Life series. I immediately went to then watch him and GoodTimesWithScar in 3rd Life and Last Life and made this animatic with the intention to fully finish it one day. I haven't touched it in over a month now and my focuses are elsewhere. I've fallen too in love with the series as a whole to just focus on Grian and Scar now.

This made me finally understand why people are so feral about desert duo. I hadn't realized this was not a tragedy, but a gleeful, vicious rush towards a shared end.
Oh thank goodness, someone else gets it! Don't get me wrong, i love me some good angst, but my absolute favorite pieces of art from this fanbase are when desertduo is continuously agreeing to cause chaos together, and this animation showcases it perfectly!!

There’s no regret there’s no remorse, they’ve accepted and embraced how destructive they are for both the server and each other AND I AM SO NORMAL ABT THAT.. THIS INTERPRETATION HAS ME IN SHAMBLES

It's like they've embraced themselves truly and wholeheartedly, and accept that at times they are utterly toxic when pretending to be something they're not- pretending that they're not destructive and a little violent. They accept that together they are both at their best and at their worst with each other. And they don't mind- because the highest highs together are worth the lows.
"I will ruin you." Ruin their reputation with others, ruin them socially. But they're never ruined to the other, because they're both equals. Yang and Yin, perfect balance. And although perfect balance is often seen as a good thing, it's the centre of chaos, Pandemonium even.
This is why I love the two of them as a team they're so good to watch and analyse!

Okay but "let's have the ghosts count us in then" is the most METAL line I never caught until this video. Like taking last life out of the minecraft context, two partners win the viscious game of death they were thrown into, and now stand upon the ruins of the home they built together, the last two alive in their entire world. And they have the ghosts of the slain who gather around them chanting for death count down to their final battle. Like HOW WERE ANY OF US SUPPOSED TO BE NORMAL ABOUT THIS.
I love the fact in the thumbnail grian is holding a match and scar the dynamite. On their own, they can be quite harmless. Hell, the match is useful, even. But because theyre paired together they become nothing but destructive to each other and everyone around them.
LONG TANGENT COMING IN
The match, once lit, will burn out, and grian as the match who lights scar's tnt is so good because yeah he's helping scar but it will burn him out in the end. He'll flicker out and he'll do it quick.
Scar as tnt is self explanatory, once tnt explodes it leaves destruction in its wake and it dies (dissapears, gets used) with it. Grian is helping scar, but the way hes doing it (lighting scar's tnt with his match) means in the end all it will do is kill scar and everything and everyone around them.
Theyre mutually horrible for each other and simply the act of pairing up has caused them both mutually assured destruction, and theyre not just fine with that, theyre _happy_ with that. I adore that.
I like how their hair gets longer with each series! Also the dance through all series.

Even if unfinished i still got so so so hyped when they were singing "iiiiii will ruin you" and you show grian and then scar's perspective and and "i am not a vessel for your good intent" as Scar lights a match is SO GOOD and and and the dancing while their outfits change to represent each season !!!!! Amazing !!!!!!!!! It really encapsulates their chaos, mischief, and despite hurting each other they're still linked together

Not lovers, just friends that flirt every so often as purely a joke. And it's not just them. Mumbo literally asked if Grian, Martyn, Impulse and Jimmy wanted to kiss, all of whom have wives, and in the case of Impulse and Martyn, kids.
@@runedoom i fully get that, i guess i was moreso looking at it from the characters Grian and Mumbo perspective and not the real life human people Grian and Mumbo perspective. I’m an adult and i’ve been in the minecraft community for a very long time, so i’m fully aware of the fact that content creator friends will flirt with their friends, and my intention was never to feed into the unhealthy side of fandom that starts using that flirting to assume with absolute certainty that two very real friends are in love.

Love this, love how it shows the destructive nature of their relationship, very “go out in a blaze of glory” vibes
their expressions when Grian is pledging his loyalty at the beginning is GOLD. Grians expression is a mix of guilt and reluctance to serve scar and scars expression is just concern about what Grian’s doing because Scar held no genuine ill will towards grian for getting him killed. SO. GOOD.
I've probably watched this over 30 times and I only just now realized that Grian didn't wear a poncho at first, but started wearing one when he and Scar moved to the desert

i love everything about this animatic, no matter the unfinished state its in! from the designs of everyone to Grian and Scar wearing ponchos to fit the desert terrain, Scar using a cane in reference to the cc himself and Grians lil chompers and how his wings look quite torn due to the ring. absolutely amazing, thank you for sharing even with its unfinished status creator!

Everyone does these so amazingly, I love animatics like this. They always do the ones where Grian is so exasperated with Scar that sometimes I forget that Grian is just as much of a chaos goblin as Scar is, but this perfectly portrays that they're both just chaotic goblins together and I live for this.

okay, so despite it being unfinished for a year, i just KEEP coming BACK. 47 times in total, i counted. thanks youtube.
it is just so so SO beautiful! desert duo are my absolute favourites and this animatic just seriously makes me love them even more. the emotion being conveyed in each frame, even if a face may be no where to be found is just extremely powerful and some frames even made me feel sick to my stomach. especially when grian smirks holding up the bundle of tnt, thats terrifying. the dance at the end is also outstanding, mostly because of how happy they seem. it has a little hint of somberness to it if you squint really hard.
this animatic is ALSO the reason i am super obsessed with crane wives right now, tongues and teeth being my super duper favourite. after listening to metal and rock for years, indie folk has just awakened something inside of me. one thing that is also VERY intriguing is probably the scene of the pre-chorus, "and i know that you mean so well, but i am not a vessel for your good intent" fits them awfully well. scar's switch-up in emotion also had me all like "woooahh!!" because it was portrayed just so well!! this same technique is also used in the scene of the chorus, "i will only break your pretty things, i will only wring you dry of everything" where it is sung with joy?! how i saw this was that the two had accepted their destructive nature and come to peace with it. wow. not to mention, the use of grian's actual line in the intro was also very smart, genius might I say. you are just SO talented and amazing in ways i cannot describe. this animatic QUITE LITERALLY has me in a chokehold!!! i understand why you made the decision not to finish it as it looks quite complicated and even tiring. i've never done animation, so im not well versed but i can tell that it is not light work. especially with this amount of detail.

Grian and quackity are one of the few characters that you can draw with pointy teeth and it fit with the character. They look amazing

cherri this is absolutely AMAZING, the flow of this entire animatic is so good and cohesive, i love how the verses follow the order of the series and it’s almost like its an entire conversation between them… AND THE DANCE SEQUENCE AT THE END WHERE IT SWITCHES BETWEEN TL AND DL IS SO AWESOME, representing the parallels… and even how after they reconcile i LOVE scars whole “i am not a vessel of your good intent” and how he lights the match, like how its grian trying to stop him from burning things down when theyre red but scar just goes crazy anyway 😭😭 ALSO during the verse breaks where it shows them and the deaths, and dl theyre both on screen, and i love love LOVE the rhythm on ll!scar’s whole death summarization. THE LYRICS WORK SO WELL TOO, the part of ll literally made me shiver

Grian’s wings are so CLEAN it’s absolutely incredible
This animatic is what got me to binge all of the 3rd life seasons (i watched a few episodes here and there before) just so i could understand everything and ive rewatched it an insane amount of times so here are my favorite parts/details
- The designs OH THE DESIGNS are so gorgeous, i love how everyones hair gets longer over each season and the way the clothes change based on their location/team, grians sharp teeth, scars cape(and eyes) changing color with his lifes. Even the creeper is beautiful wtff
- The instrumental parts where it shows all their deaths is so cool !! i giggled at 1:13 with the sheer amount of lives scar had lmaoo i didnt even realize how many he gave away.
- At 0:19 and 0:23 grians wings are cut off :(
- Already said the designs but Mumbo!!! Just Mumbos design alone is sooo cute

i love all the small details (grian's sharp teeth are so cute AAA)
the framework is incredible!! although unfinished, i can tell you put so much work into making this, and it's incredible!! the life series is an indefinite one anyway, and with the start of the new season, this animatic is such a treat!!
their declining interactions within the series is shown so well. even as scar and grian realise that they're drifting apart, the way you've managed to convey the softness of their gazes before they started to "challenge" each other for what they would do if they were together was so satisfying!!
i think i speak for all of us when i say the dance scene was amazing.

oh im actually going insane over this. i love this interpretation of their dynamic so much-- not just the double "I can make him worse" but also the "you gotta know that this won't last" ????? grian almost taunting him with the fact his loyalty is conditional ????? oh I'm ill. I'm so ill about this.
I love how people really only started to ship Scar and Grian (I think people do at least) after third life happened.
it existed before it just wasn't anywhere near as popular, it picked up a lot of attraction after and i cant say thats shocking
