- If you missed my video a few months back, I was a mission to Un-Hemi Swap my 1970 Dodge Challenger Vanishing Point Clone car. I wasn't in a hurry to the engine, but I found a fellow mopar lover that needed it for a project.
In this video, I show and explain the modifications that were made to my car to fit the gen 3 hemi in place, with a factory bellhousing, 833 4 speed, and factory K member.
Check out my engine essentials here!
That car just got 10x more interesting.
It’ll get a heart and Soul transplant!
I completely understand Joe. A big block would make it complete. I just like the simplicity of old school stuff. Looking forward to seeing what you slap in there!
Thanks brother. It will be simple. It will be fun, and it will have a lot more soul!
@@JustMoparJoe Super soul???
@@704406bbl I’ve got my ears on out here
@@JustMoparJoe Lol
Nice job Joe.
Good of Joe to come and help you with the dismantling of the 5.7 Hemi.
I agree The Vanishing Point Challenger needs a Big Block.
You will be running down Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry's Charger in no time!👍👍💯
You will be writing your own Mopar Movie in No Time!
Maybe I could run the block with The '74 Duster!
Get a few more of our Mopar Friends to help out!😎
Thanks Ed! It will be some kinda souped up something!
Great thing to do! I've never been a fan of restomodding certain cars and Challenger's are one of them, great to seeing it go back to a correct era engine!👍
Same here! I know it’ll have Soul again with the big block
You did that swap right! I could tell every time you mentioned that car your heart was not in it. Glad to see you following were your heart really want to be with your car. Back in day I wanted that swap for my 69 notchback. Even had a 05 hemi jeep. Life got in the way. Jeeps gone notchback is in the barn. Someday it will go blub blub blub again!!!!
Thanks Stan. I’ve got a good connection with this car. I want it to be fun again
You made a wise decision. Back old school.
It’s the way 🫡
I totally agree with what you are doing. Big block, 4 speed in a ‘70 Challenger. Doesn’t get much better than that.
Thanks brother! Back to the big iron
OOH now we're talking ,I think I seen a smile on that Challengers face I believe it said 440 please 😃 👍 👍 👍 👍
You may be on to something!
I can see that Vanishing Point Challenger making another movie. Like the 1965 Red Coronet Geteway Car from last year ! That was a great script & story. 👍
Haha! It might just do it!
Looks like a decent ignition system, swapping back shouldn't be too much of a challenge, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
Thanks Donald
Good on you Joe . Old school Mopar V8s RULE. Ps I Hate lap top garbage 🗑️ and all that extra wire. The auto industry has gone backwards but you’re going forward 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 🇦🇺.
Thank you!
Excited to see part two keep it up Joe!!
Thanks brother! Part two is a little rough! But I’m punting to the end zone now!
Keep it simple. Glad to see she's going back.
Absolutely!
Hope to see part 2...good content and glad to see a big block going back in...nice car...thanks...🔧🔧👍
Thanks brother
Nice Challenger!
Thanks brother. Built it myself!
Glad to see it coming out. You had mixed thoughts about it and after lunchbreak makes a some passes i can see that motor going in there. Keep up the good work Joe.
Thanks 👍Jeff!
A Nice 400 B Block and some real heads!!
That would be great!
This is making me rethink Gen 3 Hemi swapping my '69 Charger R/T!
I would think it over. It’s a neat swap, but I’ve slept better every night knowing that I’m going back old school. The soul of the car returns!
Big Block 4 speed in a Challenger. E body life! I’m putting a small block in my Belvedere. In the past I had a 512, 496, but now just a weenie 446.
Small block? 🥹
I see that 70's Ramcharger in the background :) Nice unswap!
Yes! Thank you! It’s my dad’s old truck original 440 SE, that’s had some hard times
A Vanishing Point Challenger needs a big block for sure! I'm sure the Hemi was fun and reliable, but....
You hit the nail!
Very very cool Joe. Love what you're doing there man that Challenger's always been really really nice I liked it with the hemi in it and I'm going to like it even more with the big block in it. Keep up the great work buddy!
Thanks buddy!
It will look like a great old time machine event winner with a 383/400/426/440! Surprise me JMJ! 🏁📢⚡🧨🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
Fingers crossed!
Glad to see you do this
Very nice. Good time for a video !!!
Thank you very much!
The 2 Joe team made short work of that. I hope it works out well in the Dakota.
Absolutely! I’m looking forward to seeing it in action
Im sooooooo over these lap top swaps in all makes . sooooo stupid . Yes you did a clean job but your seen more enjoyment in Old Ma V8 Mopars hope more follow the leader . Actually ill never watch any one doing lap top swaps or swapping out Mopar suspension . When iv witnessed and done it myself sat on high speed in Mopar in the early days yes there some tips on it but never had a problem . As here in 🇦🇺Mopars now and in the past doing 130 mph plus around track . Keep up the good work work Joe we need more of you . 👍🏻.
I appreciate that. I’m starting to under the idk ways more and more
I'm definitely not against doing the Gen III swap, but maybe that's because I've never done one 😂😂
I applaud you doing what is best in your eyes and in your car.
The Vanishing Point Challenger is probably my favorite movie clone car of all time and without a doubt, a big block is the right move. Can't wait for the next episode!
The Kowalski Challenger
Finally got a moment to see this Joe and I can't agree more big block for the win. For fun and frustration make it a 6 pac 😂
Haha! Thank you, Rooster!
hi joe love your chanel man rob here from western australia had a 72 challenger with a 500 hp 440 in white went like stink mopar or no car thats it cheers
Thanks Rob! Cheers!
Love to see it!! Simple is best
Absolutely!
Looking forward to part 2 brother joe
Thanks Grand!
Joe,
Great move!
The Challenger really needs an old school big block !!!
My bet is your going with a 440 6bbl.
Looking forward to following this project.
What about that one wheel wonder?
Take care,
Phil
Thanks Phil!
that is one of my bucket list cars. I have always wanted a vanishing point clone my self. I had one slip through my fingers a few months ago.... sad face.....
They’ll come up sometime. This one started as a green slant 6 car from Missouri
I agree with what you are doing. If you want a new hemi buy a new hemi car. I think even holley is getting out if the hemi swap business. The e body engine swap mounts are $30 bucks at their clearance site
Wow man!
That’s what I’m talking about… Love it😊
Thanks buddy!
@@JustMoparJoe appreciate you, my friend. Keep rawkin!!!
Dinner Break!!
Suppers over and breakfast is cooking, old Dan Tucker is standing there a lookin
I use the 318 and 360 engines a lot, great engines. The 273 engine is worth using in the right package.
All good options. I like to see E and B bodies with a big block
That’s a swap in the right direction.
Absolutely!
Back to basics
🍿
@@JustMoparJoe 🥨
I was going to ask why you’re taking out the hemi. But you answered the question at the end.
Thanks Garry. It was a smooth runner, but it didn’t have the muscle car feel
I was thinking of going with a third gen 5.7, but I’m gonna stick with my solid ole 340 n carb
Smart move! Save all your swap money and build the 340 up! Or just drive it and enjoy it. That’s what I’m looking forward to
Good move. If a person wants to gen 3 swap do it to a lesser model. Anyway that's my opinion. I don't fault a guys asperations. I'll just say for my taste the more rare models as RT need to be as Mopar intended as much as possible.
Thanks brother. This one was actually a slant 6 when it started life. But to be a VP car, it’s got to say RT. Did you notice the Camaro mirror on drivers side? I thought that’d be a nice touch
👍👍👍
Thanks Jaybo
Would be ironic in a way if you ended up with a big block again but instead of an a833 you ran with one of those viper T56s (i think thats the model number?). Its definitely sounds like its going to a good project. I've always loved the 1st gen dakotas but the 2nd gens were pretty sharp and I know a few people who run midengine mod with them and do extremely well in bracket.
Awesome! I love my833 for the shifts
So Joe, you thinking a stroked 400, a 440 or the elephant? I like simplicity and I know you do too. Your engine building skills are notable.
Thank you Mike! I have a few options hammered out for Fridays video
I'll be watching!
Nothing like old mother Mopar!... Nothing.
It’s true. My dad told me it was a silly idea and he never rode in a swapped car.
Here's an idea for a big block build. Start with a 400 block. Sleeve the block & machine to a finished bore size of 4.25". Install a stock 3.75" stroke RB crank. Finished displacement 426 C.I. with VERY thick cylinder walls. Mopar Performance Stage VI Aluminum heads with Max Wedge port size. Stock or aftermarket replacement Max Wedge cross Ram intake manifold. Max Wedge exhaust manifolds would be ideal but check fitment issues. Behold the - 426 Mini Max -
That’s a neat combination. I’m definitely going simple on this one for now.
Hey, happy to see the Gen 3 Hemi GONE, not a fan of them. I believe I already mentioned that months ago but the 1st Gen Hemi is way too locate a usable block. How 'bout 413 or a 426 max wedge Joe?
I have something in store soon. Definitely will wake it up, but not without some trials and tribulations
Vanishing Point Challenger's Gen 3 Hemi Vanished! 😂
Poof!
Good riddance, Joe! Lots of people are moving to the newer engines, but our old girls really want a big iron engine in them. There's nothin' like those big blocks! Keep it comin' man!
Thanks brother!
I’m glad you are doing that the old is better than the new just my opinion the torque sound I think the old is suppirior got in a argument he basically called a 440 6 a rock basically he thinks everybody should have a demon or a hellcat lol for one I’m not rich and what’s going to happen to these cars wen 20 or 10 years down the rd ther is no tec support for ther 150000 dollar cars that ther hoarding and selling at medium for way more than ther worth but each to ther own I got a bit of this from watching one of uncle Tony’s videos now I don’t necessarily agree with everything tony does but I agree in these new cars with more power than most can handle lol just a opinion
There’s alot to be had with the old stuff
Been waiting for you to get back on this car. A question for you about the hemi 6 ignition though, did you ever do any custom tuning or pretty much good to go out of box with msd factory tune? Curious as im doing the hemi swap in a 64 belvy and hoping for any easy task. Already had the hemi built for another project, so insted of building another made sense
I stayed with the factory tune. I think you need a dyno to really get to the potential. They definitely don’t like the timing of the old engines. Joe O cone is a wealth of information on them.
I love cast iron block than LS motor why are you going back to that beautiful iron horse 🐎 ?
I want a big block in the perfect place it should be. The Gen 3 is better suited for something that has plastic body parts
I have a 87 custom deluxe with a v 6 but i would like to find a big block v 6 out of a fram truck if i can find a gaser to put in lady blue thats what my 87 name lady blue @@JustMoparJoe
Joe going to get hellcat motor from ebay n hit 800hp drop in. Easy peasy.
Haha! No more Gen 3 for a while
@JustMoparJoe wow joe is refusing hp! Are u ok joe?
@@apocolypse11 I’m movie backwards to more of a simple setup. Big blocks make the torque that boost has to invent.
Bet that was one quick car with that new Hemi, but it does look out of place in that car,i was thinking about a swap like that but I wanted to get the carburetor intake and a kit i heard of that you could put a distributor in the Gen 3 Hemi to get the old school look, have you ever seen that distributor kit? And if you have how well does it work?
I bet it will be quicker with a 406 big block.
Thank you for the support. I don’t know of that kit. I think the cam and crank sensors are an advanced technology versus the old distributor style.
Glad to see it gone, I know you feel better now and I will be waiting for part two, I can see it now, couple hits with motor in lunch break and then into the challenger. Keep up the good work Joe.
@@JustMoparJoe yes they do make it, it is a timing chain cover with a gear for the cam and a distributor also has a place to put in a mechanical fuel pump, Google third generation Hemi distributor conversion kit and you can find a couple of companies that make them and with the carburetor intake and the kit you don't need to put all that wiring into the car, it doesn't need any computer system and it uses a regular coil for the distributor and when it is all painted Hemi orange it looks at home in a 70s -60s car, just Google third generation Hemi distributor conversion kit and check it out and let me know what you think about it, probably cuts down the performance a little bit but it looks good and definitely makes a swap much easier and better looking
vanishing 5.7 ...... .. .. . it gone....
Amen!
Put a 426 Hemi back in it.
That would be awesome! I’m only 25k away
440 like vanishing point??
Someday!
Hey what about the tranny ? I been wanting overdrive. Will a 6 speed automatic from a gen 3 work on a big block or small block ? I have both old school engines but would like another gear.
They use a tremec style trans. It may be easier to buy a swap kit, but will be costly. Here’s a decent article on it. www.motortrend.com/how-to/install-tremec-t56-6-speed-plymouth-duster-mopar/
Is this another lunch break project?
You know this one!
Will bring my car by so you put that Hemi in my car, maybe.
Make to the 9 minute mark…… it’s gone.
It’s on the trailer! 😂
Get back Joe Joe
Absolutely!
