- The Moment has finally arrived! This is part 2 dyno testing this STOCK STROKE STREET 440 big block Mopar?
Today’s test was comparing the 750 Modified AED carburetor with a 4 hole Wilson tapered spacer and the 1050 Holley Dominator with super sucker spacer.
I also announce the winner of the dyno prize giveaway! @johnwilburn also is donating to the winner!

We have to remember this is a 440 with a 750 carb on a manifold that fits under the hood, not a big drag race stroker motor. 560 hp is very impressive to me. Job well done.
Especially with those smaller intake ports
A lot of nice intake manifolds require a hood scoop. My 66' Coronet has a torker 2 intake on the 440 with no room for a carb spacer. Holley street dominator is another great single plane manifold that will fit. RPM and Victor are too tall. M1 I have no idea.
Thanks Rick! Purpose built and conquered the goal!
@mitchellferre1652 @mitchellferre1652 You have to watch the carburetor to hood clearance also.
On some cars, the hood may close, but a higher intake puts the carb up way too close to the bottom of the hood. The air then has to make a really sharp turn to enter the carb, and it can choke the motor off quite a bit.
I ran a big block in a G.M. G-body years ago, and when I switched to a different slightly higher single plane intake the car felt like it lost a BUNCH of power, and it slowed down dramatically at the track.
I noticed that the top of the carb was about a quarter of an inch away from the underside of the hood. I took the hood off at the track and immediately picked up 3 tenths of a second from letting the carb breathe better.
It was a drag car, so I ended up with a Harwood pro-stock style scoop on it, and it picked up a total of about 1.75 tenths over the previous intake and no hood scoop.
I thought it was a fairly good gain for just an intake and cold air scoop, but MAN, I was pretty baffled at the 3 tenths loss at first when the carb was so close to the hood. It took a few minutes of thinking and looking before I realized what was going on.
@davelowets I have to do something about this in that case. My air cleaner is right up to the underside of the hood. The K&N Extreme lid I put on looks nice but is choked off completely. It's time for a fiberglass hood and hemi or 6 pack scoop !
Killer results , with a fairly mild package. Big block mopars are feared for a reason. Mopar or no car 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

@@davelowets lololololo.
I only have,1 Mopar, 2 Ford's, 1 Oldsmobile, 1 Buick, and 12 Chevy's in my current collection
At least you have an Oldsmobile... 👍
@@davelowets
Yes, a 1970 Cutlass 442 all original, got it 43 years ago when I was 15.
Not bad for a big-block with small block heads on it. 👌
Exactly! He didn’t want max wedge under his stock flat hood
That 750 is one hell of a good carb!! That car is gonna be an absolute tire frying Mooochine!!! Awesome build man👍
Thanks brother! Congrats on 500 subs!
@JustMoparJoe Thank ya man,And thank you so much for all your help!!👍
Joe, this is an OUTSTANDING video. First of all, that stock stroke 440 is stout! Second of all, I absolutely love the individual probes in the headers so you can actually see what each cylinder is doing in relation to AFR. That's how you REALLY dial in an engine. So much information in this video series that one needs to go back and rewatch each video to get so much valuable information here. Great job!!
Thanks brother! I’d love to have this one in any of my cars or truck!
Puts out some power, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
Thanks Donald! Same to you!
Oh how I love the torque that you can get out of a 440! You are gonna rock the speedway Joe!
Thanks brother! This one goes in a show car 69 charger
Nice numbers. My favorite engine from Mopar. Great build.
Thank you, Randy!
Very interesting and informative you see. To be a big block fan whats it going into she will be a weapon on the street
This one goes in to a 69 RT/SE Charger show car!
Awesome final numbers! 👍
Thanks Mitch!
Very nice 440! Good work 😁
Thanks brother
Nice results Joe.
No doubt this engine is the real deal.
I like it when a plan comes together.
Nice package.
Thanks to Aaron for the expert dyno testing.
Thanks for sharing.
Have a great weekend. 👍
Thanks Ed! The tests all went great!
Lots of power. Excellent build series! I'm looking forward to seeing the blue truck run. Wheels up!
You and me both! Thanks Brother Brad
Cool,,good build mopar Joe,,love the torque that 440 is putting out 😃 you done good 👍 👍 👍 👍
Thanks brother
I also am pretty denominational when it comes to my automotive preference. 😁Great build and a great series Joe!
Thank you, T! I’d love to have this one in any of my rides. It’d even be a fun bracket engine
I wasn’t expecting the 750 to outperform the Dom. Very interesting. That’s why you test.
Every combo is different for sure. Let’s try it on the 512!
@@JustMoparJoe sounds like a plan
560hp and thats really an affordable combo! 6-700 looks like a very possible combo ive got a stock 440 and a 383 sitting im gonna gut the stock 440 internals and use those in the 383 for a low deck 426 and put a new steel crank and steel ray barton rods in my 440 with some aluminum max wedge heads ported to flow 350-370cfm and use some ported 906s on the 426 hope i can hit these numbers or close.
Thanks brother! Sounds like a cool combo!
Some great numbers on the 440, keep up the good work joe.
Thank you Jeff!
Nice numbers. I was excited, and spot on - hp at least, with my 559hp at 5900rpm and 565tq at 4200rpm guess until your last two pulls. Great representation of 440 power w/moderate runner size!
Thanks Derek! I really think the 240’s may be the best street head. The lower profile will help them fit under the flat charger hood. I think it’s a pretty sweet combo
@@JustMoparJoe Agreed! I have a set of TF240s myself waiting in boxes for my '72 400 low deck stroker build.
Man, watching these videos makes me miss my days running the Dyno
Awesome buddy!!!
Thanks Mike!
It's going to be very driveable too. BB mopars are awesome that way.
Thanks brother!
@@JustMoparJoe You're welcome. Keep up the great work!
Very nice . I believe you’ve built another winner . My favorite part is the end where you and Drew are at the track . Just looked like a cool moment
Thanks Terry!
Nothing like a big block Mopar! Love the 440! 👏👏👏
Thanks Ryan!
Awesome power especially for a stock stroke 440 great job Joe
Thanks Ray
Gonna be a wicked R/T SE
Absolutely! I’ll get follow up of it when it goes in the car
Sounds great ...good content...thanks Joe...🔧🔧👍
Thanks for the support!
👍🏼💥 awesome 440 !
Thanks brother! I’d love to own this one
@JustMoparJoe I plan on building a 440 similar to this. Stock crank, rods. .509" Purpleshaft cam, 440source ductile iron rockers, Torker 2 intake. TFS 240cc heads. 750dp holley with Proform main body. KB pistons, 550hp is the goal. I'm not sure if my Hedman 1.75" headers will fit the angled plug heads so I am prepared to buy a set of 1 7/8" TTI or Doug's 2" if necessary.
nice work
Thank you! Cheers!
One should really have an intake with a Dominator flange on it, and then use an adapter to fit the 4150 on it, to compare the two.
Not the other way around, like what was done here.
One should do what they can afford. If I had an unlimited budget I’d try that. Eric Weingartner just did a similar test
@JustMoparJoe I get it..
Performance automotive engine parts are getting horrendously EXPENSIVE today....
Some stuff has nearly doubled in the last 3 years. It's ridiculous, really.
🍻
@@davelowets You got THAT right about cost. I don't know about current times, but in the past guys were getting better results on Mopar Wedge engines with 4500 adapters on 4150 manifolds than they were with 4500 manifolds.
Awesome 😎
Thanks Shane!
Good power from that 440.
It’s a sweet street machine!
Stock stroke, stock internals, low rise, single plane intake, good quality, heads, 750. Pretty tough to beat a 440! AED carbs are legit!
Thanks brother! I’m a believer!
I think the Torker II is a manifold to be chosen for it's low height. For hood clearance. If you have room for a two inch spacer, you'd just chose a taller manifold. I think a tall manifold is better than a short manifold with a spacer, and usually has less more clearance.
Did AED cut off the choke tower on that 750? There are main bodies that never had a choke tower and are more tapered. They would flow better than the one pictures, slightly.
I always want a choke tower. In fact, stub stacks ( choke tower tapered extensions that fit under an air cleaner) are just as worthy of dyno testing as carb spacers. Cutting off a choke tower has less than 1 cfm improvement in air flow and zero in HP.
As for the Dominator, I have a setup similar to the one in the test. But I can't use it because I don't have a car that has space for it with the spacer/ adapter. I think modifying the Torker II carb surface so that it fits the 4500 base is what I"d like to do. I wish I could find a 440 intake that mounts a dominator carb that is low profile. I know a tiny number were made, but I have not seen any. And I bought the only Dominator (list 4575) that has a choke, but the choke is long missing. The choke plates cost four times what the carbs cost, if you an find one.
A couple more carbs to run would be a 750 cfm Dominator and an 850 4150 carb like my all time favorite List 4781.
PS. I'm looking for a 67 Satellite Hood to make an RO type hood and scoop. So Cal area.
The carb came exactly how it was from AED. I’m not sure why they start with that style body, but I’ve seen the horns milled off for many years. I had wondered if the stock style body used in this carb was a tad bit shorter than the one with radiused Venturi openings. Check out Jonny Mopar on TH-cam. He might have a hood for you.
👍
Thanks buddy
Got it hooked in good. Where is it going?
This engine goes in a 69 RT/SE charger. I will do a follow up on it sometime
I had great luck with AED carbs
Absolutely!
A 850 might be the sweat spot, too bad you did not have one when testing.
Yes I could have yanked the one from my 512. Love it with the annular boosters
So the AED is a better choice over the 1050. I wonder if some extra tweaking on the 1050 could have given some spicy numbers.
It should have..
There's a HUGE difference between a 4150 and a 4500 on my Olds 505.
The Dominator makes a BUNCH more power.
I’d you ever get a chance to own an AED, they are excellent. This is an old 3 circuit dominator that needs some upgrades. I’m also certain that a 512 will suck more air than the 440 does. Seems like a good track test in my future
@JustMoparJoe The fact that it was a 3-circuit may have been it's downfall also. I have found that the 3rd circuit (intermediate circuit) ends up adding WAY too much fuel to the engine unless the engine is making 700+h.p.
For anything under that power level, I use a 2-circuit 1050.
I have a Quick Fuel 4700 Series QFX "Pro-Street" 1050cfm 2-circuit Dominator, and it works just EXCELLENT on a 625h.p. street engine in one of my cars.
I DID try a 3-circuit 1050 on it first, and it was blubbery rich in the mid range, and the engine would eat plugs pretty quickly. I could immediately tell that it was too rich, as the car would start and immediately idle without there being any choke on a 4500. It was all downhill once the engine warmed up.
The 2-circuit on the other hand, that thing has REAL crispy throttle response, and very good manners for street driving. Huge difference between the two.
I don't doubt that an AED carb works very well once it's built for your application. I haven't had the bucks to have a big name carb custom built for me.
No doubt ma mopar will teach a lesson to the dyno guy on the way home lol. She works that way sometimes lol.
Haha! Right onn
man i love a dominator... need one for my 318 now :)
It’s a big rig! I’d like to play with it on my 512 and see how she goes
They DO make a 750 Dominator....
It's basically a 1050 with skirted boosters installed to take up some of the space in the barrels.
@@davelowets I did not know that.. was kinda joking :) dominators just look soo awesome.. I'm using a 750 street demon and am really happy with it for now
@icetech6 The Dominators aren't cheap either. The last one I bought about a year ago was $1600. That was an 1150cfm. I bet the 750 is not too far behind it.
The 2-circuit 750 Dominator tunes JUST like it's smaller brother, the 4150. Everything is basically the same, just bigger. Stay away from a 3-circuit unless you are making around 700+h.p., the midrange WILL be too fat otherwise, and it will foul plugs.
This guy actually dyno his motors dang. While dead dodge uses zip tie's to add power to his cars. Lmao
It’s around $900 to dyno here for a day. Wish I could do every engine I build. I may try the chassis dyno on a few coming up.
😎👍🇺🇸
Thanks John!
750 is the way to go if its mostly street driven, lose a lot of low end responsiveness with a 1050 is way too big of a carb unless its a 520+ci stroker
Test completed 👍🏼
What is the cost for testing the horse power of a given engine?
This dyno for the full day was around $900
😮
Which one is better pulling a camp trailer up a mountain pass at 2500 RPM?
A better question is how many of the viewers have a boyfriend to bring a camper to on the other side of Gomorrah pass and must keep exactly 2,500 rpm or have their license revoked. YOU can worry about that. The rest of us will enjoy the build for what it is.
Gary, it’s this 440 all day. If you want the power at a lower rpm, then change the cam.
I have an idea why don't you do a video on pulling a camper and tell us. Make sure it looks like a charger, though, cause last I checked on the set of vids on this engine, it was mentioned what it was being built for a few timessssss.
Who's concerned with pulling camper trailers up mountains? Yeeesh.
👍🏻🇦🇺
Thanks brother! Cheers
What PCV valve is being used?
I went in Oreilys that morning and got one for a 90 model Chevy truck. Fit perfectly
well i wont buy a Dominator Just yet, i will stick with A.E.D. But will try tack het on my 408.
Love my AED. They are pretty close on their tune
Bigger ain't always better.
Is that an old modified 4779?
Carb is a 9375
What did he say?
He said it takes a big hog to weigh a ton
👍
Thanks brother
