"SPOILERS" Small bit, didn't Gotrek go the nearest "high" dwarf lord sometime after his finding his dead family, and ultimately ended up murdering them all for not caring and snickering about his loss, trying to seize him, the shame of murdering a lord and his guards made him take up the oaf? Gotrek didn’t even break then. He literally fought his way to AoS. Nothing can stop this Dwarf, not even the end of days slowed him down.

Brian Blessed does not have the low gritty voice needed to do Gotrek. The books say his voice is like boulders grinding together or ice cracking. Brian sounds like a jolly uncle.

I fee like you didn't make Felix justice in this one. He literally solo'd a dragon and made Gotrek so mad becasue of it he almost killed him.
Gotrek didn't despise Felix killing Skalandir at all. And they didn't fight after. Gotrek only ever struck Felix once, in the last novel, like 7 books later.
Felix does the writing,
Gotrek does the fighting!
Felix also does the loving.

@@fumarc4501 As far as I know, in the old world, Humans typically treated Dwarves with kindness. I can't find any lore that mentions Humans and them having conflict. So basically, that means we're their only friends.
@@InvaderPivot The dwarfs are responsible for mankind's guns and steam tanks by proxy, and personally forged Sigmar's hammer.
So yeah as close to friends as the dwarfs ever get.
@Invader Pivot Some Humans are dicks, especially if they mistake a Dawi for a Halfling... Otherwise the Empire trades regularly with elves, ogres, **cough**skaven**cough** and Dwarf strongholds.

Felix has killed dragons as well. his sword gives him powers against them. it's a lot like gotreks axe, only it actually takes power over felix. the scene where he kill the dragon with it for the first time is amazing. I'd highlight recommend the first 3 omnibus at least. I've not read beyond those.
My boy was so powerful the ruinous powers were like "fuck this" and just spat him out of the chaos realms

The books are amazing. Absolutely amazing. One of my favorite Warhammer series. Highly recommend reading them. I was so happy, when they were introduced to the game I could cry :)

Gotrek's return into AOS was such a huge fucking insult.
ET/AoS itself is a huge insult. It contradicts so many things so badly that it's impossible to reconcile it with WHFB. I can only think of it as an alternate timeline where everything you knew was different and all the characters were stupid.
Storm of Chaos (or something similar) is the real outcome of Archaon's invasion. Deep down, we all know that.

Doom slayer of Warhammer
Well I have been considering starting the Gotrek and Felix books. Now after seeing watching this I feel that I must start them. Any recommendations?
The first book, Troll Slayer, contains a couple of short stories, detailing how Gotrek lost his eye, the basic background of their meeting and how Felix got his sword among other shorter adventures. It is by no means bad, but outshined by the later ones in comparison. Give it a read for the basics, if you want to.
If you read nothing else, I highly recommend the two following books Skaven Slayer and Daemon Slayer. These first three are also made into the first Omnibus. That Omnibus would be my recommendation.
I feel that the later books after Dragon Slayer (the 4th book) are lacking a bit in my opinion, but ymmv.

GOTREK & FELIX in the karokok eight peaks storyline from the channel, it was said from the playlist, they went into the eight peaks to seek the riches but they never returned. It was in the book Trollslayer. Belegar and his army had just "retaken" 8 peaks but there was still a lot of enemies underground. Originally, Gotrek and Felix were heading towards 8 peaks in search of treasure. They went deep under the hold and found treasures, dwarf ghosts, and a troll wearing a chaos artifact.

As a slayer being fearful of not attaining a glorious death in battle, why would Gotrek accept aid? He would’ve possibly achieved that death in the fight against the daemon, if Felix didn’t help him? Maybe he should’ve not been so concerned about vanity with his story being told.
Gotrek is an irresistible force that personally delivered himself to hell in a hand basket, and hell wanted him out.

i know right. some don't even take the oath out of dishonor but, like Gotrek, because they have nothing left to live for. and then the enemy doesn't have the skill to put them out of their misery. as much of a badass as Gotrek is, i pity him. then again the mortal realms needed him badly cause he's such a total badass XD

Whenever I play dwarves in total war: warhammer two I have an army with ungrim as the leader and most of the slots being slayers and just letting them loose on everything.
And then hell spits them out cause they can't deal with the bugger
I actually met them on my TK campaign yesterday, they must have fought someone else because when saw them their army was made only of both heroes, and like two wounded units
I didn't even know who they were, I just saw some dwarf leading an almost dead army
So I sent Settra to annihilate them just for the XP, and then I was surprised when he got a perk for killing them
Anyway... Should I feel bad about-it, or glad he got the death he wished for?
To anyone watching this: Read the Felix&Gotrek books, they are amazing. It's a perfect series for anyone new to the Warhammer universe, because you get to know a lot of factions, their society and their armies. The stories often kinda read like a D&D campaign, because Felix&Gotrek are accompanied by companions of various skillsets on their journeys.
Gotrek and Felix Omnibus is great!
I would say read William King and Nathan Long’s run. From what I’ve seen the books after Long take a nose dive in quality. But they at least end the series

I've been reading the series for 2 years now and I love them. Gotrek and Felix got me into reading Warhammer Chronicles books and I can't wait to get into The Legend of Sigmar.

To be honest Gotreks part is the only thing I liked about the end times. Then Age of Sigmar had to fuck it all up. I loved the idea that Gotreks destiny was to hold back the demonic hordes the same way as Grimnir had in ancient times.

What other weapons like that exists and how many?
Gotrek's axe is one of the most powerful rune weapons of the dwarves in the beginning of times (when the most powerful runes and enchantments were known) so it seems pretty balanced that he is so op with such an op item in his possession. Not sure if his axe was one of the axes of grimnir. In the daemonslayer book, more info is told about the origin of his weapon
FUmarc the sword of Kaine, the slayer of kings , sigmars warhammer , the moon bow of alith anar , grimnirs twin axes. There are probably a lot more weapons. But when a weapon is powerful in warhammer fantasy it really does make them powerful. Heck even a few suits of armor can make the wearer invincible.

The twin to the one Grimnir took is wielded by Thorgrim Grudgebearer.
Technically it was felix that killed the dragon
I hate how Felix never gets any credit. Felix saved Gotrek and the entire crew of the spirit of grungi by blocking a stream of dragon fire. He even invoked the power of the dwarf gods to save Gotrek at Karag Dum and chucked a warhammer at a bloodthirster.
It was his sword, later the 2 sorcerers of tzenhz reveal that during the fight with the dragon the sword takes control and felix is nothing more than a puppet

Ya honestly I don't like the second author who writes the Gotrek novels. Felix should never struggle with a single orc, the dude fought Dragons, Chaos warriors, and wounded a Bloodthirster of Khorne! And that was before the 20 year time skip of time he would grow into an even more dangerous warrior!

One mistake, Gotrek didn't take his oath until after he killed his Lord because the Lord wouldn't mount a gruge raid against those that had killed his family. The Lord ordered his guards to take him into custody so he couldn't rally others to his cause, and because Gortek refused to be taken prisoner, he laid about him with Grimar's Axe. There, with the blood of his own kin on his hands, he took his slayer oath in that very hall with the bodies of his kin surrounding him.
I remember reading in the White Dwarf that Realmslayer, his first book in AoS, could be interpreted as an allegory for fans of WHFB growing accustomed to this new world.
I'll definitely listen to the Realmslayer audiodrama whenever I want to start learning more about AoS.😃 Would love to see the Mortal Realms from Gotrek's perspective.
The Book of Choyer AoS was my introduction into Warhammer in general, but your channel definitely helped me in learning about the World That Was. Keep up the good work mate.
@@TheBookofChoyer Honestly the two realmslayer book's are fantastic the voice acting is 10/10 and the story is a good introduction into learning about AoS as Gotrek is also new to this new world and obviously hate's it which leads to hilarious scenario's with him a fan of warhammer fantasy that point's out all the bad of age of sigmar.
The World that was will always be better then the Realms that never were.

The way you speak is very reminiscent of the narrator from Fallout: New Vegas. I approve of this. And Gotrek is an awesome character, my favourite in all of warhammer actually, and the fact that Brian Blessed himself voices him in both Total War: Warhammer II and the newest audiobooks makes it even better.
About time. This duo is my favorite of any fantasy setting. King and Long's books are the pinnacle of fantasy. Love it when Gotrek goes catatonic from depression when the chaos invasion is thwarted but he was too busy saving the Empire from another threat and couldn't take part in the war.
