- No-Dig Bill is an older game idea I decided to animate. Bill has to keep aliens from digging into his property. They believe digging to the core will allow them access to more energy. Regardless of whether or not that even would work, Bill can't have dangerous holes all over the place.
Pixel artwork for this video was done using the 1px pencil and eraser tools in Adobe Photoshop. About 3/4 of the way through the process, I learned about Asesprite, which I'll be using from now on, because I found it so much easier than using the Adobe Photoshop timeline for animation.
Explosion effects made using Pixel FX Designer.

@John Liller I was thinking Atari! Despite the very obvious limitations of the system, there are nifty little tools and utilities that help make programming much easier. I was already working on some Game Boy stuff, but I like the idea of a little side project...

That's very kind of you to say! (I take it to heart!) I got left in the dust YEARS ago when it comes to programming.
(I'm talking... DOS days. LOL!) But I REALLY like the look of pixel art, and at least wanted to try animating in this style.
The idea was from a notebook a few years back, where I did actually jot down the "No-Dig Bill" concept. It's silly, but I write down silly things like this. :)
@@TheCrafsMan speaking of dust there was a developer who was in a similar situation as you, he made a game called "Dust: An Elysian Tale" and you could probably take some pointers from the game or the creator himself.

There are game programs out there that is perfect for those who just want to dabble a little with game design. My program of choice is ClickTeam: a game program that uses block-based programming with a ton of presets to play with. Some people use Game Maker, some use Scratch, and some use Unity to get their hands into 3D games. Never hurts to try because most of these have free versions for anyone who is curious about making games!
But thanks for your videos, man! They are perfect for those who want to branch out design mediums!

It is a time-honored convention in video games that antagonists must be extremely flammable.
I will say, for an awesome guy in a modestly sized workshop, you are a powerhouse of QUALITY creative crafs, hobbies, music, games, and the like. It is really amazing everything you come up with or throw your own spin on. Always gets me to go make something fun.
Not only would the game sell, but then you could make a whole line of figures!
My neighbor was an electrician. One day he went to a job and brought his girl friend as a helper. he had to dig a shallow trench to lay some conduit and gave his girlfriend one of the shovels and they both began to dig. His girlfriend was unable to dig much at all and he teased her. She got mad and said the reason she was behind in digging was that he had used the technological shovel. This made him laugh. The trench did not get dug that day. Seeing your fancy shovels made me think of this. This was a fun video- Crafsman, thanks a lot for inspiring.

Hi Crafsman! I'm a game developer, I've been programming for over 10 years now. There are lots of great game engines out there that require little-to-no knowledge of programming, all of which can very easily suit the kind of game you were thinking of. One that comes to mind is Gamemaker. Gamemaker studio is free to use and is often used by developers who work best in other areas of development (pixel art, animations, music). You have a really solid idea for a nostalgic indie platformer title, and I encourage you to look into it further.

HOL-UP... I would A) watch an entire series like this. the sound and visuals are beyond amazing and B) i would love to play a game like this the story seems very rich and deep.

Plot twist: the "Aliens" are actually interplanetary colonists from Earth.
This is why I love and support Mr Crafsman. His content is always creative, imaginative and has no boundaries or specific genre. It's just quality content from the nicest dude.

I like video games with a message. I feel this one has a very clear message. "Respect other people's property." Also, any game where you can customize your character's appearance is an instant win in my book.
