    My Papa used to eat cornbread and milk as a midnight snack. And when you opened that tobacco canister I could literally smell him. He passed away in 1984 but I still miss him. Thanks for this walk down memory lane.
    Have you made a video about carving spoons? I’d watch that all day long.

    • @TheCrafsMan
      @TheCrafsMan  6 ปีที่แล้ว +78

      Hello, my friend! Always nice to hear from you! :D I know what you mean about that smell. I read one time that that sense is the strongest one tied to memory, and that makes sense, because sometimes I'll pick up on a scent that immediately floods my mind with clear memories of a person - like my grandparents - who have passed. It's bittersweet.
      Someone else asked about a spoon carving video. I may have to do that! :)

    I like the muffled silence of a snowed-in february forest when everyone is sleeping in there and you're just like a ghost, I find it funny when my eyelashes get stuck together because my tears are freezin', I love walking on the snow, wearing wool on a rainy day, I like rhubarb pie, I like shepherd's pie, I enjoy the smell of North African spices in berbere cookin', I like french-canadian poutine made with real beef broth and fresh cheese curds. I like walkin' on bridges when its overcast, driving towards the sun at dusk when its cloudy and the light makes this golden-pink hue that's heavenly, I love the look of my girl when I catch her stairin' at me, I very much enjoy babies being clumsy, and puppies trying to awooo as loud as they can. Hi Crafsman. I just watched this again. I've watched it several times. I like a lot of those things you showed. I also like old typewriters, and collecting them. I like watching all the levers and linkages work together. Over 2000 parts in most of them, and they still work if you take care of 'em. I like how the hammers hit the page, and the rhythmic sounds they make. That sound keeps me working. Speaking of rhythmic sounds, I like the sound old clocks make, like the one on my mantel from the 1920s. The tick-tock sound relaxes me, and I like the chime when it goes. I like sitting on my easy chair over by there in the mornings, and my old greyhound comes up to get her head scratched. She lays her head on my knee while I drink my coffee. About 9 in the morning, a church closeby starts playing old hymns on their chimes. That's a real peaceful sound too. I like reading books, the sound of the pages when I'm turning pages, and the smell my old ones make in the living room. I like listening to old records, even if they've got a few scratches. I like my walks along the river, listening to the water, and the colors of the trees up around there when it's turning fall. I like standing out in the middle of a farmer's field when it's dead winter and snow is thick on the ground. If there's a moon, the snow twinkles like stars, and the snow soaks up all sound. It's just dead silent. I like that too. I really like it when my wife smiles with her eyes when she looks at me, and when my boys find something real funny and they laugh loud. That's just a few things I like.

      @@MitsyWuzHere ASMR is anything that causes the effect in someone. This is full on ASMR for me although I didn't originally subscribe to this channel for the calming and tingly effects. It was just a happy accident! Also, I think what you mean is that neither this nor Bob Ross where INTENTIONAL ASMR. This is classified under unintentional ASMR, which is actually the only kind of ASMR that works for some people.

    • @asmrstuff8607

      punkypineASMR totally agree. I get ASMR from unintentional ASMR stuff including his and Bob Ross. A lot of the ‘ASMR’ channels, including the most popular ones are so far from actual ASMR and seem to have lost touch with what ASMR actually is.

      I had to look this up... ASMR is the acronym for "autonomous sensory meridian response" a relaxing often sedative sensation. Or brain massage.... In other words, they say it is... Good for the soul.
      I agree. Nice work Crafsman. And good wishes for all the good folks out there. Enjoy your day

  • @karlijnlike4lane

    I do like honey ... Some. My nose tells me when it doesn't want any more. I get a funny feeling in my nose, and then, no more honey. But it's so pretty, like eating a gemstone. I like to look at it, and I like watching bees make it.
    I've always liked biscuits, and I like making them for my son Wally who would eat them every day.
    I've never even heard of fig preserves and now I must find some.
    I like cornflakes & strawberries with milk. I like milk ... I've never had cornbread & milk!
    That thumb oil is the kind in "The Wizard of Oz": "Oil can!"
    I like the keys, the older & chunkier, the better. I like old smalls in general, especially old doorknobs, hardware, bottles, containers, & tools, because you can imagine how many people handled & used them without thinking about it. Handling them connects you to those people.
    I like fixing old jewelry. I like being inside old houses & trying to figure out their history, how they were changed over time & how people lived in them.
    Imagining the history.
    My older brother is a photographer so I grew up with photography, always pictures being taken. Your videography is amazing. The subject is always simple, so your "eye" & visual artistry shines through. (This is very important on TH-cam!)
    That spoon is straight gorgeous.
    I like watching animals, figuring out their behavior & what's going on in their heads.
    I like the quiet outside just as a blizzard is ending.
    Ice cream.
    I like making anything better.

My Dad was a professional photographer and he gave me the "eye" for the small stuff. I tend to catch things other people don't see and I love it. Keep finding joy in the simple things....especially right now.

      I'm looking into Patreon right now. I got hung up on the part where it asks about different rewards for different amounts. I'm thinking of just letting people contribute whatever they want, from $1 on, to help with the videos. Some people have suggested ideas for rewards, like me recording things for them (voicemails and such), which I think is a fun idea. Definitely giving it some thought.

    One of the best things to keep handy in the fridge for some tea is some simple syrup, just water and sugar mixed one to one and heated a bit. You can add it to your tea to sweeten it up a bit without worry of sugar grains in the bottom of your glass even if your tea is ice cold. Thank you for making these videos.

    • @TheCrafsMan
      @TheCrafsMan  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I grew up with all those fine things, too. My Great-grandmother had a gallon can of Briar Rabbit brand Blackstrap Molasses that was delicious and strong-flavored. I would slather that on top of hot biscuits and butter. So many other delicious things she cooked, and I watched her as a kid and I can make them now. So glad I paid attention!
    I like office supplies and every creative supply and piece of equipment there is. Most of all, my hands.
