    I’ve heard for turbo cars that you have to let it warm up 30 seconds or so and just stay out of boost until it’s fully warmed up and NA vehicles to just shift or stay below 3k rpm’s until it’s warmed up

    • @landscapingco2791
      @landscapingco2791 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Definitely not 30 seconds you have to wait till your oil is above 180 o start ripping on your turbos.

      i always wait for the cat heat up idle to drop down then i drive gentle till it’s fully heated up. this in my opinion should be the same for everyone regardless if it’s NA or not.

    Topic is usually mentioned in your maintenance manual. At least for my evo x, it says to turn on and idle until rpm’s fall, which usually takes somewhere between a minute or two. This gives me enough time to plug in my phone, set up music and GPS so it’s works out. Then try to keep out of boost and rpm’s low (less than 3k) to let things warm up. A lot of people misunderstand the advice of not needing your vehicle to warm up, as hop in and go, but it’s really trying to avoid the people that turn on their car and let it idle for like 10 minutes, typically found in cold climates. Several minutes of warmup is fine but there’s no need for anything past like 3 or 4 max.

    Car warms up faster when driving instead of idle just don’t floor it until your oil is up to temp. Depending on what oil you’re using they may get up to temp faster like 0W-30 which flow more in cold weather compared to 5W-30.

    my driveway is 90* angle to highway 74 with narrow fence and mud. i cant speed up until i do the 90 left or right and hit the pavement. i have to be ready to accelerate away from people coming down the hill to my rear as i gain speed in the morning to go to work. i warm it up before I go in case I need to punch it, as some people are angry they'd have to let off the gas for a second for courtesy.
    most people should let it spin in park until the oil pressure goes up, then drive gently until hot. you will notice that upon starting your car cold, it revs higher on its own sometimes. HIGHLY recommend you let it do so whilst still in park. the extra rpm is to boost oil pressure, electrical energy/battery reserve, and increase fuel flow to ensure its primed. in an auto trans, D or R puts resistance and slows it down, especially when the trans fluid is still cold.

    Once engine starts, put a seatbelt on, plug your phone, check your hair in a rearview mirror, maybe pick your nose then your car should be good to go. Once you hit the road, rev up moderately then double clutch shifting in first 10 minutes.

  • @mitchellmiller3176

    I know some people personally that don't let their engines warm up before they take off. They don't know that it's slowly taking at least 20,000 miles out of their vehicle, If not more than that.

  • @Boosted00
    @Boosted00 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    All you need is 30-60 seconds of idle to get the oil circulated. After that drive really slow till engine is up to temp. The car will warm up much faster than idling it and once the oil has circulated after 1 min you are good to go. Just give the rest of the oils in your drivetrain warm up and then you good to go.

  • @technorunner1

    You don't need to let it idle for more than a minute or 2 ESPECIALLY in a modern car. Just don't go crazy until you've driven it for a bit.

      Why do modern cars defy the laws of physics? I do believe 5 mins or so then driven gently is probably not a bad idea when it’s cold out.

    It depends. My 91 Silvia I'll let it idle till the idle drops and it starts camming out. Usually a minute or two. Then keep it low rpm out of boost until it's fully up. Motorcycle I'll wait till it shows 110F on temp, then go slow until full temp

    Watch your rpms! They will start high and then drop down once the internal temp is good. It takes around 30 to 40 seconds in normal weather. Closer 1:30 when it's really cold out.

    I used to live in a "no loud car boohoo" place, right next to a bitter neighbour, not sure if I should refer her as the b word...
    She was the type that would phone to report me for mowing my backyard lawn a week late(after doing the front lawn). What I did after getting my first aftermarket exhaust (loud enough to be heard) was I would pull outta my driveway, park across the street immediately after starting up my truck, especially in winter times when that fast idle didn't wanna end... Never had a problem once.
    Now that I moved way from there to a place with no exhaust laws and am living full rural, I can finally make my clapboxes as loud as I want :) Still not obnoxiously loud though
