In other yakuza games youre fighting to get to the main villain in the finale but this time youre fighting to get away from the main villain. Its almost like capture the flag but the dissolution letter is the flag and you have to protect watase to the police station.
Joryu and ryoma are the only playable characters that actually killed not counting dead souls. Majima hasnt had an on screen kill so he is up for debate for all we know majima hit them hard enough to become unconcious
The callbacks to certain boss fights in shishidos boss fight the fist clash similar to daigo the headbutt clash like ryuji and probably more are so Cool to see referenced
The bit where Shishido cuts the chandelier is a reference to the brawl Kiryu had at Omi HQ where he swung on the Chandelier to take out a 5-6 enemy's, it was a QTE originally so you could easily fail it
It’s not visible due to the camera angle, but given the design of Shishido’s tattoo (with the komainu/shishi looking down) and Kiryu’s lower position, I believe they intended to have the tattoos complement each other during their intro, like what they did with Shibusawa. In East Asian mythology, komainu/shishi statues are said to protect shrines, while dragons are associated with legendary storms - and the analogy fits Shishido and Kiryu perfectly. Always loved how RGG plays with East Asian mythology for their final bosses, and I think that fight is a standout example of how well it can work.
Oooh I get it. The statues protecting the shrines represent Shishido trying to protect the yakuza way of life while Kiryu is the storm that wants to end it. I also loved the symbolism with Shibusawa's colored dragon tattoo while Kiryus was only the outline to show Kiryu rising to his legend status as "The Dragon Of Dojima" and the dragons also facing each other as they clash. SO MUCH GOOD SYMBOLISM THAT A SENTIMENTAL MF LIKE ME LOVES 😢

Tsuruno's actor is Yoshiyuki Yamaguchi. He's never been in the series before, but he and Shishido's actor - Yasukaze Motomiya - both co-star in a yakuza series called Nihon Touitsu.

Not really, the announcer literally says "Whose to say he's not still alive out there somewhere?" Like someone at RGG had to write that line in, have it recorded, and then put into the game. All Gaiden really confirmed is that this exact instance of Ryuji isn't real. Being that we got TWO Ryuji fakeouts, it does kinda make me wonder about what the next spinoff is going to be about...

The final Shishido fight is probably the height of Kiryu's badassery for me, as far as cutscenes go. Taunting Shishido, catching the katana between his fucking elbow and knee, and then punching away his kicks before ending the fight - I was marking the fuck out going through that fight.
Unlike Batman, Kiryu doesn't have a strong "not killing anyone" code, he just simple try his hardest not to kill anyone. So if killing is the only option, then he would have done so

Gaiden really has the most epic final chapter in all of Yakuza in my opinion, really feels like a the End of the Tojo Clan and Omi alliance

Honestly all the Cinematics we got were good. However Tsurnos dynamic intro is my personal favorite next to shishidos intro.

Shishido's Essence of Finishing Stomp heat action was from Y6 Demo, they finally used it. After one month I never get that heat action from him.
