Since dead souls they brought him back in ishin as well and always have multiple references they even have him in that online game i think im suprised they haven't just brought him back into the main series
I'm thinking the real reason is RGG wants to keep Ryuji's fate ambiguous in case they do want to actually bring him back. Given Ryuji has appeared once in every engine, RGG clearly loves the guy and probably regrets killing off such a great rival to Kiryu.
personally i didn't feel like that. i felt like the substory about ryuji goda was a funny nod to the theory. but the colliseum fight it was so clear that shishido and nishitani were just fucking with kiryu from the start when they made 2/3 tournaments about him

Seeing Joryu charge kick missed a few times against Watase, it also happened to me in some random fights. Sometimes I could swear that the animation show that Joryu attack should touch the enemy. But somehow the hit didn't connect.
Might be a stupidly hyper accurate hitbox problem, in that same fight you can notice the uppercut heavy miss too and even though it happened to me WAY TOO FUCKING OFTEN, I think I remember the enemy's body wasn't in the way of the attack even if I was glued to them.
I find it weird that after you beat the tigers ryuji uses actual ryuji s moveset from Kiwami 2 but don’t let us use it when we fight as him another wasted opportunity to play with the actual ryujis moveset but still glad we could play as someone sorta like him
They brought back Ryuji for Ishin, have him as a protag in RGG Online and Dead Souls and how many references did he have in Gaiden? RGG definitely regrets killing him off and deliberately keeps his fate ambiguous. Just bring him back already, or make a Gaiden about him.

Kiryu using fake Ryuji as a makeshift weapon against the tiger a la Saxton Hale and calling him out for hiding behind the tigers is cathartic.
I find it so funny they tried to trick us about Ryuji’s fate so many times in this game.

Kinda weird we never get to fight against fake kiryu after this one or even recruit him since i think he would be a fun unit

If I had a nickel for every time Kiryu had a fake/look alike I’d have about 5 nickels, which isn’t much but it’s funny that it happened 5 times
