Zeke is probably one of the best Buckeyes I’ve ever seen Don the scarlet and gray in my 31 years of life. Not only that, but the 2014 O line has to be one of the best lines I’ve ever seen as well. Obviously took them some time to gel, but once they did they were dominant. The most incredible season I’ve ever witnessed.
And to win it with the 3rd string QB makes it even more special. I have a Cardale Jones jersey hanging in my closet just for that very reason.
Running game took off once JT got injured. Teams had to respect the deep ball and didn’t have to worry about 20 QB runs every game

Whats funny is they had a freshman Joe Burrow on the bench as well before he transferred out.
Eddie George was wayyy better than Zeke. I love Zeke, but Eddie just bowled defenders over, or better yet, hit holes in the defense going downhill doing 100mph.
Zeke ran for 200+ 2d+ in the big ten championship, sugar bowl, and the natty. Absolute beast. I’m a Michigan fan. And I can say zeke is probably one of the best and most exciting players I’ve ever watched in college
They had Eddie George, Maurice Clarret (remember him?) and Zeke Elliot all come through
In both the game against Bama and Oregon you can definitely hear in the announcers voices they didn’t like Ohio State dominating both of them.
This was one of the best CFP games ever. When your a 21 point underdog, - 3 on turnovers and you still win by 22 points, and the supposedly unbiased commentators who predicted a huge OSU loss say on the very last play "It's not fitting, it ends with an interception".

@@potatopossum1 I watched the game play for play, there is WAY more enthusiasm when the ducks completed anything and talked non stop about those plays. Even the short gains. They didn't expect nor really care for the win.

And then return almost everyone the next year but underachieve by losing to Michigan state by 3 at home👍

They turned the ball over 4 times not 3 and twice against Bama totaling -6 turnover margin in the playoffs and still knocked off Alabama and Oregon and that was after beating Wisconsin 59-0 in the BTC...it was an AMAZING run!!!

@@aleccollins2108 We did the exact same thing Oklahoma and Alabama did only they lost by more but since we were in a much harder division (and the B1G 12 did not have divisions) we didn´t make the playoffs because Sparty did not choke the division unlike Ole Miss two years twice losing to ARKANSAS and Oklahoma lost at home to a 5-7 Texas who Ohio State would´ve beaten by 30. Plus, it was raining outside so it affected our talent so it didn´t really matter how much we brung back. We then went to a top 8 Michigan team and smashed them winning by 30.
i remember watching this game at the mall w my mom as Oregon fans and was both disappointed and had feelings of joy. this will prob remain my favorite national championship game bc of the nostalgia. but this the best/most stacked Ohio State team in history in my opinion so it really wasn’t a surprise looking back on it that Oregon lost but we could have won if we played better
You had 4 Turnovers you played about as best as you could. That OSU defense were just sharks though and could taste the blood in the water. Also didn't help you had no answer at all for Zeke.

As an Oregon fan watching this still hurt
Elliot wrecked a lot of teams that season. He ran for 230 against Alabama in the game before this one and 220 against Wisconsin in the Big 10 championship game. He got off to a slow start against Navy and VT and he didn't see the ball a lot in some other games because it was a blowout win for the Buckeyes.
He was a beast which is why he was picked so highly in the draft.
don't forget in that momentum swing up at penn st he carried a lot of the weight and had over 100 against MSU at east lansing when we finally put it all together.
He had a broken wrist for a good chunk of the year.

Elliot had a solid final year at osu, but that playoff run was unreal by him. They steamrolled everyone they came across. Run that rock!

It was. And when Mariota started whiffing on plays he made all year, that was it. That oregon team was only as good as Marcus was, and ironically, that was his worst game of the year.

Full strength Oregon would have taken us down to the wire... and beaten EbbTide, also, if they had to... Oregon gave FSU it's first loss in 3 years... in fact, destroyed FSU so badly EbbTide was afraid of them...

Honestly as a kid when i first started to watch football idk since 2001 Ohio State has had this major recruiting edge when it comes to teams in the big 10 but mainly between the two schools

@@BuzzLOLOL Half? Nobody. Carrington just failed a drug test, Allen and Ifo were injured I can recall. Doesn’t matter because we would’ve lost to the Buckeyes either way. Best Buckeye team I’ve witnessed till this day.
@@thexxdrocker952 There was a few others, but honestly the injuries hardly mattered. Mariota played his worst game of the year. And it wasn't necessarily special circumstances either. He was whiffing on plays he made all year. That oregon team was only ever as good as he was. Sometimes it just isn't meant to be. Fun year of football overall though.
@@ace98curtiss I remember he had a good passing completion with 2 TD’s and his last pass being a pick to end the game. That Buckeye defense definitely challenged him unlike any other team he faced in his career. Stanford defense in 12’ & 13’ bullied Mariota but this was different!
@@thexxdrocker952 Nah, I've heard that argument and never liked it. Just an excuse. He racked up plenty of yards, but he was awful on 3rd down(the ducks were 2-12), and equally bad in the red zone, with one of his lowest passer ratings on the year. You can't have lapses like that and expect to win. And it's not like he faced a new level of pressure either. Throughout that game, ohio state dominated oregon's o-line like most teams did, but it was largely irrelevant. 1 sack, and forcing mariota out of the pocket occasionally (just for a comparison, Arizona State sacked him 6 times that year).
Can't put all of the fault on him, as his receivers did drop a few 3rd down passes. But even those weren't great throws. I loved watching mariota play, but he doesn't get a pass here. Everyone has bad games. His just so happened to be in the biggest of his career, against a good team no less. And all while on a team that was "ride or die" reliant on his arm.
Wow definitely a future first rounder. Could even be a hall of famer as long as the cowboys don’t draft him

I can see a huge difference in an offense implemented by Urban Meyer and the one that Ryan Day is currently working on. Ryan Day is a great Coach just Urban Meyers coaching perspective is unmatched

Cardale Jones was great in the 3 game National Title run, but it was Zeke's Team and his performances that won the games for us.
No doubt! Cardale did everything he needed to do, but his teammates played unbelievable to put him a position to succeed. Particularly that offensive line which is the greatest OSU line in recent memory
