I don't necessarily think that her motive was that impure. She may have started out as a true idealist--thinking that people are basically good and if you change the laws, you could change people for the better. Only God can judge the heart and inner motives. We make ourselves God, otherwise. But I do strongly agree that we ARE to judge and punish people by the law. It's our responsibility to put people behind bars and protect society.

He is the city supervisor over that neighborhood, which is plagued by crime, drug dealing, and drug addicts camping on the street, throwing their needles on the sidewalks, and etc. However, he doesn’t believe in arresting drug dealers, drug addicts, or enforcing ANY laws. Anytime she tries to enforce the law, which his constituents keep begging her to do, HE always brings in race (as he did here) by saying that the enforcement of the law “disproportionately” affects black and brown people. She called his bluff and threw the race card back at him, because If he cared so much, he would realize that his black and brown constituents that he represents want drug dealers out of their neighborhoods and drug addicts off the streets. He cares MORE about the illegal Honduran drug dealers that are controlling that area than he does about the actual black and brown residents that live there.

They didn’t just pop up when she became mayor and no previous mayor before has been able to successfully tackle them. What’s changed is the city is EXTREMELY overly progressive now, the sentiment around law enforcement has changed, and people’s drug of choice is a poison like we’ve never seen. Yes, she did jump on that “defund the police” wagon, but as a person that still loves this city and STILL LIVES in this city, I welcome the about face and the change.
