They made the spider sense really cool here. It is really one of his best and most subtle powers. Nothing can hit him and he's able to fight completely blind. He just needed to trust it more.
As goofy as it is, I do appreciate that "Fury" was actually Talos the whole time - simply because it's not really plausible that Fury himself would be so trusting or so easily fooled by someone like Mysterio.
Revealing Mysterio to be someone from an alternate universe felt like a nod to comic fans who knew Mysterio was a villain, dating back to his first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #13 (1964). But they wanted to trick us comic fans into believing that this was a "good" Mysterio from another universe. Still, it was a pretty unique way to introduce the character. For non-comic fans, though, I totally get why the film tricked them into believing he was a hero, there was really no reason to doubt him at first since this is the characters first "official" onscreen appearance. Also, I'm pretty sure this was the first time the MCU dropped Earth-616, which is the mainline Marvel universe designation in the comics. It’s a neat Easter egg, but officially, Marvel's been refering to the MCU as Earth-616 now too, which gets a bit confusing. The whole point of having different number designations is to avoid overlap like this, where two universes end up with the same label. It’s definitely a bit messy. Also, the official MCU handbook from around 2009 listed the MCU as Earth-199999, which has used since to refer to the MCU in the comics, though things change, so who knows. Edit: I think Earth-616, or at least 616 was written on a board in one of the first two Thor films.
…and this, my dear friends, is why we DONT SPOIL MOVIE PLOT TWISTS. And there are precious few movies with really good plot twists. I'm personally extremely impressed by the self-control shown by the writers of this movie. They knew a lot of us would see it coming immediately, but they resisted giving it away by dropping too many hints etc - just to allow those in the audience who don't have the knowledge to get THIS PRECISE EXPERIENCE. The "in memoriam" video by Peter's hs classmates for the fallen heroes is great comedic writing, 'cause it lets you feel sad and despondent over their loss and sacrifice, yet laugh at the video... Btw, the look on your face at Mysterio's villain reveal was AMAZING. He's one of Spidey's classic rogues. Even knowing that, it was impressive how well the story set up the entire first half of the movie..
Well, if you want to know more of the 'aftermath' regarding the so-called 'Blip', you may want to follow up with the WandaVision TV series. It's all canon, it's entirely part of the MCU phase 4, and I believe you'll appreciate it big time. It's just a TV series instead of a movie, so it's going to be a different format if you want to tackle that one on YT.
Oh the Nick Fury thing? He's always been Nick Fury. At times a Skull would pose as him or another agent (or people in general) in a different location. Part of his deal with harboring the Skrull refuges was Talos among others would work as a spy network for him and SHIELD. So since after the events of Captain Marvel (MCU Earth 1995). Much is the subject of fan theory but otherwise the only time thus far it is a established we saw Talos as Nick Fury and another as Maria. Also actress Colbie Smulders said she wasn't told her character was a shapeshifting alien until after filming wrapped.
Really hoping that you have seen the original Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy and the 2 Andrew Garfield Spider-Man films before continuing this Spider-Man series. Phew……that’s a lot of Spider-Men.
She said she grew up on the Raimi movies so those might be up in the air for videos, but she’ll definitely check out the Andrew movies and I think the first Spider Verse before NWH
In the comics Mysterio was a special effects artist who uses his skills for crime. Over the top plans to trick people. One of my favorite examples was from an early spiderman video game. You fight Mysterio and his life bar fills like 5x that of any other boss. Then you punch him once and it drains and he goes down.
The best part of this movie is that everything that seemed a little off the whole time (Quentin Beck's hokey story, Jake Gyllenhaal's not-quite-convincing acting, Nick Fury being kind of gullible, and not as intimidating and in control as we expect) turns out to be for a reason! I remember being kind of disappointed in how they made Fury in this movie, and then the post-credits scene just made it all make sense!
When I was growing up, Marvel listed Spider-Man's powers as being able to dodge bullets fired at him (through a combination of his spidey sense and reflexes) IF he's far enough away when they're fired. So the near end shot when Peter catches Mysterio's pistol from off the side when he fires it, fast enough to disrupt his shot, was REALLY cool to see implying he was really in tune with his spidey sense and anticipating his misdirection.
Completely agreed. Homecoming is on my list of most underrated MCU movies. It’s so much fun and is what got me into the whole fan base and universe. Epic.
1:19 - Worry not, as you progress through the various TV series you will see the Snap through different point of views. Eventually all the questions about it will be answered.
The spidey sense you had about gylenhall’s “fake performance” and fury being out of character gel with the theme of peter losing then having to trust his instinct so well… This vid makes me want to be friends with you
The end credit scene with the reveal of the skrulls as Fury and Hill now makes us wonder which times we saw Fury and Hill in the past movies were they actually there or they were just the Skrulls?
Shanelle's question about how someone was affected by the snap, Black Widow probably has the best scene to demonstrate the POV of someone getting snapped.
Even though Mysterio is a classic Spiderman villian they had me thinking maybe they were going to throw a curveball and not making him a villain until they did. Also tying Beck and the other scientists behind Mysterio back to Stark was a stroke of genius especially the guy who was working for Obadiah in Ironman 1.
I remember when you started out and you'd let out that laugh every time folks would normally cry. Now you're crying just because they used an 80s song you like. ;)
This is a furthering of S.W.O.R.D. introduced in Wandavision. SHIELD is on earth, and SWORD is everywhere else. It also teases that they are moving into the Secret Invasion storyline.
I believe WandaVision and the Disney+ series era is about to hit now. This should be a fun ride and seeing how you handle it. Some do one or two episodes at a time a time, and a few do three episodes.
Part of the reason the reveal is so surprising is that it creates far too many questions about how any of the earlier attacks could ever have possibly been convincing? It’s really hard for optical illusions to generate heat, make things wet, or knock over buildings.
Are you serious? Did you understand the movie at all? 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ The drones had projectors, which were used for the illusions yes, but the drones were also weaponized to inflict the damage done by the programmed illusion.
@@gabrielleroux2333 Not sure why the hostility feels necessary. They did not have access to EDITH until London, so they were not using those drones until then. You say the BARF drones were armed. Einstein-Rosen Bridges are another way of saying "wormholes." In Thor: The Dark World, Dr. Selvig was institutionalized because he had become obsessed with other worlds and how to get there. (And for being naked in public...)
I liked how they made Mysterio as a wannabe movie and special effects director. His “crew” are all people that have a specialty in costume design, vfx, etc
I love this film like I love all the Spider-Man films, but the one annoying thing about it is, anybody who knows anything about the Spider-Man comics knows that Mysterio is a super villain and one of Spider-Man's biggest enemies, so the reveal that Mysterio is a bad guy was not a big reveal at all.
😎👍 Yes, you should definitely watch Spielberg's "War Of The Worlds." The original from 1953 is also quite watchable, although obviously the special effects are a bit crude by 21st century standards. 👾

As a comic reader I thought they MIGHT have him start out as a hero, and then turn into a villain. Once they hit the "I'm from another earth" I was pretty sure they wouldn't change Mysterios origin that much and was convinced it was a ruse.
Nah, I don't think that it's a trademark thing in regards to his Spidey-sense. I think it's more of a fact that the movies seem to forget that he has it as a power and don't depict it as often as they should. That likely comes from how a power that allows your central protagonist to easily dodge and evade attacks becomes a narrative problem in an action-heavy film. How do you catch your hero off guard or have any action when he can avoid the action? So the movies will conveniently disregard that he has that power for the sake of storytelling.
I don't know if you'll read this but I have a suggestion before you get to Eternals. Eternals has a very different feel from all the other Marvel movies. I would recommend that you watch the director's previous film Nomadland to give you an idea of what Eternals will be like.
I love Mysterio in the comics. But, something about the overall feel and delivery of this film just didn't work for me. Although, the nexr one, "No Way Home", is brilliant! Best part is the return of JK Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson.

How do you catch your hero off guard or have any action when he can avoid the action? So the movies will conveniently disregard that he has that power for the sake of storytelling.
War of the Worlds.
Yes.

1:19 This question will eventually be answered….
I don't know if you'll read this but I have a suggestion before you get to Eternals. Eternals has a very different feel from all the other Marvel movies. I would recommend that you watch the director's previous film Nomadland to give you an idea of what Eternals will be like.
freeze frame at 43:26, it looks like you have heart shaped eyes.
I really enjoyed this one.
The part 2s of some of these Marvel movies can disappoint.
No Way Home is a must you should not skip it... and wanda vision
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love Mysterio in the comics. But, something about the overall feel and delivery of this film just didn't work for me. Although, the nexr one, "No Way Home", is brilliant!
Best part is the return of JK Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson.
