It was the only time I ever watched a Superbowl game, up to half time, watched the WHO , then went to bed. The Music was good , but I still don't understand the game of handball that was shown. Give me Rugby Union anytime.
“If I swallow anything evil” I think refers to ANYTHING evil; evil thoughts, evil feelings, and he wants others to help him see that life can be good and not so bleak.
This album, Who’s Next, and the songs recorded were defining moments in my college years. Roommate introduced me to The Who and I became a rock fan because of them and The Beatles. Behind brown eyes ...
This song brings back memories, keg parties in vancortland woods, one of the guys bringing a big boom box with the , The Who , led zep cassette tapes. What I would give to live those days again!
I've struggled with depression and high functioning autism all my life, and have blue eyes, so this song has always been special to me. 28 years ago my wife banned me from singing it in her presence, because it made her cry.🤣
You need to see this group live. An influential bad from the 60's/mid 70's. Along with Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, The Cream, Jimmy Hendrix, Set the stage for rock and roll to come. Peace
Led Zepplin needs to speak with you..... but seriously, what happened to music? My theory is emotion has been beaten and medicated out of people. Very few bands can tap into it anymore.
My black mates here in the UK have told me that they grew up listening to predominantly black music while they are growing up. I’ve introduced them to a lot of stuff that they wouldn’t have been aware of, and their response was one of surprise and an appreciativeness of the vast majority. Give “Who by Numbers” a rip. If you liked this I think you will enjoy it. This track is on that album. Peace.
When my fist clenched crack it open. One of the most powerful lyrics in any song by The Who. It was a prayer Pete Townshend made when he was tempted by a fan.
"If I should swallow anything evil, put your finger down my throat" is my favorite line from this one. It means if I should start acting/thinking wrong, check me, even if it hurts me.
Where they pause it just before the 6 minute mark, they think the word drugs has been used but the actual lyrics are"And if i swallow something evil, Put you finger down my throat, And if i shiver please give me a blanket,Keep me warm let me wear your coat. They could be singing about taking drugs but it could also be about drinking alcohol, eating dodgy food or just a metaphor for taking many other things perhaps negative on board that you can get helped on and saved.
I suggest reading the lyrics first. Much of classic rock, like rap, tells a story of life, and helped many of us get out from under our parents and see the world as it is. The Wall by Pink Floyd for instance is a story about breaking out. Days Of Future Passed by The Moody Blues goes through a typical day, from waking up to toiling the day to resting into the evening with Nights In White Satin. The Who's Tommy, or Quadrophenia are rock operas. Pink Floyd's Animals, and Wish You Were Here are also concept albums you might enjoy. But follow the lyrics. Read Black Sabbath's song about weed, Sweet Leaf, then listen to it. It was written in 1971and most people didn't know what it was about. Stay cool, folks. And rock on. Oh, and you might like Bruce Springsteen - he writes songs about life's struggles growing up in the working class.
Originally this was meant to be part of a concept album called "Lifehouse" and this song was sung by the villain of the piece. Townshend didn't finish it then so they took the best bits and made "Who's Next" out of it.
I’m sure it’s been mentioned on here, but Limp Bizkit did a cool cover of the song in early 2000s, they put their brand on it and it was really popular along with the music vid but it’s hard to beat originals and classics like this or THE WHO!
It's one of those songs which will take a while to grasp it. People are still debating it's meaning, some say it's about an Irish terrorist or a schizophrenic killer.
I just have to say, even though it has been awhile since this came out, that if anyone sees this... the line " if I swallow anything evil" does not mean taking too many drugs!!! It means if I fall for bullshit, and things people are trying to tell me that are not true...you will be there to "put your finger down my throat"...to help me reject it ..point me in the right direction...help me take the negativity from my life!! I have always thought that this was one of the most poetic, and emotional lyrics in the history of rock!!! JUST SAYIN'!!!
I know you probably won't check in on this songs comments since it has been a year since you did this reaction but Keith Moon's performance on the song magic bus live at leeds is phenomenal, and I know you are a drum critic, the performance that Keith does on drums will certainly convince you that he is one of the best drummers of all time, so if you see this go check out magic bus live at leeds
i know you take your requests from patron, but request..... s&G - bridge over troubled waters!!!! if youve never listened its old but very good. when music was way diff. s&g also btw is. simon&garfukel. was my grandfathers favorite song.
The Who are amazing, its hard to pick a song that really shows all they have, maybe one of the overtures, but i think you need to listen to "Go to the Mirror!" to get a good idea of their range in only 3 and half minute.
Nice. The Who doesn't get the recognition and love they deserve. Keith Moon was the prototypical wild man rock star. Nobody threw TV's out of the hotel windows like him, or even thought to do it until he did. Here is an unlikely reaction suggestion. On Romania's Got Talent there was a beautiful young lady named Lorelai Mosnegutu, with a serious disability, who sings like a bird. Her first audition will make almost anyone bawl like a baby. th-cam.com/video/uwTpbRPT4HU/w-d-xo.html
This whole Album and this song is from the 70s. I was there...Lol Not anything to do with drugs whatsoever. It's a metaphore about doing Bad things. Remember, he's the bad guy.
The song was recorded in 1971. Glad you enjoyed it. It’s a great piece of music.
Its my dads favourite song dog
I was born in 71, Sounds as good as any description of my part on the spectrum. A mask, always.
One of the greatest rock bass lines ever. John Entwistle is a genius.
Anyone remember Superbowl 44 when a football game broke out during a Who concert? Best halftime show EVER!!
I’ve seen them live before!!
It was great, but not better than prince. Lol. And just saw them not to long ago, great show
Funny as shit!!
lmao.....
@Is English a forgotten language? Nowadays Edmund Kemper recommends not following such evil impulses, for once you do, it is difficult to stop.
This is one of the greatest songs of all time. I can’t believe it didn’t get the Hype Button.
I can't get over Keith Moon. Every song is a drum solo
This album, Who’s Next, and the songs recorded were defining moments in my college years. Roommate introduced me to The Who and I became a rock fan because of them and The Beatles. Behind brown eyes ...
Another awesome, and influential rock band from the 60s and 70s, The Who fukn rocked
The song was released in 1971
Crazy to think this song is almost 50 years old.
@@JonBlaze1014 Yea the Who were always ahead of their time.
Anything by The Who is lit!
This song brings back memories, keg parties in vancortland woods, one of the guys bringing a big boom box with the , The Who , led zep cassette tapes. What I would give to live those days again!
Baba O' Reilly for the car-test!!! 🔥🤘🏼🔥🤘🏼🔥🤘🏼
💯🤘🤘
What should it be? Won’t get fooled again?
Tony Mazzoni
No, Baba O' Reilly. Some erroneously call it, Teenage Wasteland.
Nope Won't get fooled again
I've struggled with depression and high functioning autism all my life, and have blue eyes, so this song has always been special to me.
28 years ago my wife banned me from singing it in her presence, because it made her cry.🤣
You need to see this group live. An influential bad from the 60's/mid 70's. Along with Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, The Cream, Jimmy Hendrix, Set the stage for rock and roll to come. Peace
And Neil Young
THE WHO is the GREATEST Rock and Roll band in History. Second to NONE.
Led Zepplin needs to speak with you..... but seriously, what happened to music? My theory is emotion has been beaten and medicated out of people. Very few bands can tap into it anymore.
Great choice. The Who were a fantastic band.
I hope you all have a lovely day.
Your kids faces when you’re doing you, cracks me up. They’re, “Daaaaaaad... smh”
My black mates here in the UK have told me that they grew up listening to predominantly black music while they are growing up. 1970 and the greatest rock and roll album of all time. A great song from a man who has blue eyes!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻☮️❤️ Gets my High button.
The WHO has been described as having a Lead Singer, a Lead Guitarist, Lead Bass and Lead Drummer. Watch the you Tube vid of them at IOW festival .
I gave been binge watching your channel for days! I love your energy and personality! Beautiful fam!
Good pull... Cute that you do it with your kids. They're both adorable and thoughtful with their input...
When my fist clenched crack it open.
One of the most powerful lyrics in any song by The Who. It was a prayer Pete Townshend made when he was tempted by a fan.
Love the genuineness of you guys, happy to support the channel.
our guy closed his eyes and was instantly transported back to 1978 lol such a great tune.
This is a song about life as seen from the "Bad Guy's" point of view. What a great song. Very unusual prospective. It's a one of a kind song.
Love you guys from 🇨🇦
Check out Won't Get Fooled Again and Baba O'Reilly!!!
Wont get fooled again is amazing
Both sure to hit the button!
Both are unbelievably good.
Best Rock band of all time!!
So nice to hear The Who.
Best rock Band ever
No hype button? Really? Probably one of the most iconic bands ever on planet earth and a great song to boot!
Loved it. My second favorite band of all time. BTW, I'm a 50 year old white guy.
Mike Martin who’s ur fave then
@@Sunsets-nr6lv the Beatles is my favorite band, but Sultans of swing by Dire Strait is my all time favorite song.
I'm 29 and they've been my favorite band for a decade.
they remind me of the beatles/doors/elton john. old school great music
Love the album cover, all peeing on a monument, "Who's next"
Years ago I was with a chicago group that covered this one. The drummer wade rogouph sang it.and very well I must say.love ya Wade.
The magic of a good song is to draw you in and make you want to sing a long. This song does just that! Good choice!
Classic Keith Moon. One of the best drummers ever. Died at 32.
"If I should swallow anything evil, put your finger down my throat" is my favorite line from this one. It means if I should start acting/thinking wrong, check me, even if it hurts me.
It also gives me chills, because three of the band were alcoholics and two of them have since died of overdoses.
YES!!
If you listen to the 2nd part, there is no doubt where Rush got their inspiration from. Kieth Moon was one of the great early rock drummers.
From the 60’s and early 70’s.
The Who were an Brit band formed in the 1960s.

This joint sounds like the 80's...lol
Originally this was meant to be part of a concept album called "Lifehouse" and this song was sung by the villain of the piece. Townshend didn't finish it then so they took the best bits and made "Who's Next" out of it.
It's almost September and you haven't done enough WHO. They were one of the bands that were masterful at changing their sound.
Check out a lot more of The Who and you may want to check out some live songs. They are awesome in concert.
Love the Who! You gotta love some Keith Moon if you like drummers! Scope out Volumes - Pixelate (Official Music Video)!!!!!!!!
You got to hear the Limp Bizkit version of this, and if that doesn't do it for you,
Cradle of Filth - Her Ghost in the Fog (something with lyrics)
Nope stop the lies!!! Noone can do the Who worth a damn except the Who
That's the best drummer in rock and roll. Crazy dude but brilliant!
I’m sure it’s been mentioned on here, but Limp Bizkit did a cool cover of the song in early 2000s, they put their brand on it and it was really popular along with the music vid but it’s hard to beat originals and classics like this or THE WHO!
No they destroyed a work of art
Keep rocking guys

Although Rodger and Pete both have blue eyes in my opinion zero chance Pete didn’t write this about himself
