Grey Wardens - The Heroes everyone needs, but the Heroes nobody aspires to be... You cannot grasp how much they sacrifice until you really think about it, they are NEEDED, but every single one is also bound by a curse, a curse that will eventually kill them. Were they not around, the world would die and succumb to darkness, and fire and death. All that is light would be destroyed until only ash remain. Forced to fight the deformed shells of twisted elves, dwarves and men. They are the ones who must stare death and darkness dead in they eye, and then fight it back to the places from which it came. Then, if they are lucky and survive the horrific battle, assuming they are not driven to madness by the psychological wounds of that war, they return to their fortress. No thanks, no reward, no nothing, gone and forgotten until they are needed once more, even then during peacetime, wardens must be recruited merely 'in case' the Darkspawn attack. Their lives spent, gone, whittled away merely on the off chance the menace returns... They Grey wardens embody what it means to be a true hero. Yet only those with nothing left in their lives would dare consider becoming one...
+Whoami691 Even when there is currently no blight to fight there is plenty of Darkspawn to kill, and not just in the deep roads. And since their blood is deadly poisonous and killing usually is messy, even these rather small events of Darkspawn surfacing or breaking through tunnels in mines fall into Grey Warden duty, since their sacrifice made them immune to it. The Grey Wardens are the only surface dwellers that are always aware of the danger lurking under everyones feet, and in between blights they are often declared obsolete, useless, and people stop takign them serious. "Grey Wardens belong into fairy tales. Just like their Griffons." It's not just that they get no thanks or honors, and that their sacrifice is simply expected from them, but that they are obnly called heroes when there is visible dark spawn to fear. People are skeptic of them whenever they don't see an immediate need for them. After our Hero of Ferelden ended the fifth blight, they regained a lot of influence and they are still positive in peoples minds, but it already starts to fade again. Just remember how even King Cailen didn't believe Duncan that they were truly facing the fifth blight, simply because he hadn't seen an archdemon yet, or heard of sightings at least. Nobody took the Grey Wardens seriously until they actually needed them. Truly "the Heroes everyone needs, but the Heroes nobody aspires to be..." I couldn't have found any better words to describe their order. The horrors they face, the sacrifices they make, the fate they accept, all for the greater good, serving the people. In War, Victory. In Peace, Vigilance. In Death, Sacrifice. Their cause is a noble one, that only finds respect in times of great need. I fear for what will happen in another 20 years, when the horrors of the fifth blight fade further in the peoples collective mind, and for what the sixth blight will bring.
Curiousity Realized OH! Uh, thank you! I am almost sorry for throwing such a long comment out there but I was pretty upset after seeing how many people spoke against them after Inquisition. Saying the Grey Wardens should be thrown out of Ferelden because they made an honest mistake in their desperate attempt to save the world once more- how fucked up. It's like, imagine we're having civil war and a charming and highly intelligent mass murderer infiltrating get into the high ranks in the FBI and play with them and bring chaos before finally someone notices. Would that mean that the FBI needs to be banned? There is no such thing as a 100% failsave organisation, and especially during desperate times they are quicker to resolve to desperate and dangerous measures. Now take into consideration that the Wardens all heard the calling and feared there would be NOBODY left to fight the next blight and then got convenient 'help' to end it all once and forever, and I really don't see how this could have gone any differently with any other organisation. Everyone else was out fighting demons and worried about the rift, the problem of the blight fell to the wardens alone, again. They knew the rest of the world would not care until it was too late, again. They had to act, or die and accept that the next blight would end the world, consume Ferrelden and then be too big to be stopped. The problem is not that the Wardens are stupid, or that they don't have enough control, it's that nobody takes them serious and over many many generations they got the message that people are ignorant. They don't share the curse of the blight, they can't feel them deep in the earth, so they wouldn't know whether or not the wardens tell the truth, and seeing as how powerhungry the rest of the world is, of course everyone else would believe the GW just try to scare people into giving them more power. And the wardens know that. They know that and when you make them think their order will DIE, and leave the ignorant people defenseless, who can blame them for taking desperate measures? Which modern day organisation wouldn't? Tell all of americas police they will die soon and there will never be police in the country ever again. You better believe a lot of our heroes will feel obliged to erase as much scum from the face of the earth as they can before they go. Also eople argue that in Origins the blight was ended with just 2 Grey Wardens, so technically you only need one to kill the archdemon and that's that, but they always forget how many cities, towns, and villages were eradicated, how much land was tainted and has becomes useless. Good thing the blight killed so many, haha otherwise they wouldn't be able to feed them all anymore and theid have faced a famish next. Like- WT- I can't handle this shit. Okay let's say you only have about 2 wardens, one two kill the archdemon, two for backup and to recruit another one to keep the order alive when they get old since you need a warden to do the ritual and make another warden, so that there always will be one in case they need one. Now imagine there is another blight, first of all, your armies won't stand a chance, not only will the blight outnumber them, but they are terrified because they are not used to the blight and that's pretty much the legions of hell crawling from the earth. After a battle the dark spawn will drag survivors under the earth to create more dark spawn, so you give them recources by sending your normal soldiers to fight. And even if you manage to win one battle, those people will be mentally scarred and probably infected with the blight and die soon. People will die like flies, because there is no cure for the blight, and in taints people and land alike. Now try to keep your two gray wardens alife and at the same time get them close enough to the archdemon to kill it. Good luck. In Origins our player character dies how many times before you finally manage that? I don't wanna do the math on that to find out how small the chances of winning that horrible battle really were. So depressing. It just angers me how many people underestimate the imprtance of the Grey Wardens, and that people don't see that the way the Wardens were treated by the world cornered them even more when the desperation was great. Yes, what happened was horrible, but it was an honest mistake and they stand up for it. They don't make excuses and they want to give their friggin lives to make up for it. I wonder if that would have been a normal military force, how many would react the same as an order of people that winds up the clock and starts a countdown to a horrible death fighting dark spawn in the deep roads to protect the innocent and the ignorant the moment you become part of it, and accept a life of humility where their sacrifice is expected and taken without a word of thanks. I would never throw the wardens out of Ferelden, not as long as they are this honest, this upstanding, this accepting of their fate and their punishment for fucking up, and this dedicated to saving everyone. Nope. Despite everything I still think the Grey Wardens are one of the most trustworthy organisations ever. Their motive is never more than to help, to save people. They don't care for power, they don't care for glory. How much purer can they get? GW 4 da win.
“Join us, brothers and sisters. Join us in the shadows where we stand vigilant. Join us as we carry the duty that can not be forsworn. And should you perish, know that your sacrifice will not be forgotten. And that one day we shall join you.”
You know when i did the ultimate sacrifice ending with my female human warden, I said aloud "in peace she was vigilant, in war she was victorious and in death she sacrificed she showed all what it meant to be a gray warden." I dont know why but I liked the sound of that : 3
after reading the world of thedas volume 1. these lyrics makes more sense. they sings in dwarf , english, and elven the motto of Grey Warden... jeez bioware did a good job with this fantasy world
In German the kids sing: "Im Frieden sei wachsam. Im Kriege sei siegreich. Im Tode bring Opfer. So wirst du ein grauer Wächter sein." (In peace be vigilant. In war be victorious. In death bring sacrifices. This is how you become a grey warden.) Couldn't find dwarven lyrics :(
Probably because the Grey Warden's sacrifice much more and the whole plot of Origins felt much more involved. You have a great sense of urgency to save the world from this grand threat that slaughtered an entire army. Then you have a ragtag group trying to save the world whilst The Inquisitor has the power of a small nation. The plot of Inquisition however, is bad. There's lots of good lore and characters but no sense of urgency. Corypheus is made to be a threat but you never feel like he and his forces are at all threatening. You constantly fuck up his plans, he is evil for the sake of being evil with the goal of being powerful because he is evil. He is incompetent and forgetable. I could not care much about the Inquisitor struggling to defeat Corypheus, as there was no struggle.
@@snowinowen4 it's sad, because He was more easier than Loghain even. Between The Inquisitor and The Warden... Well... The chan and Co... Is nothing against, Loghain, Arl Howe, Bann Esmerelle, Mother, The Arquitect, the Archdemon, the Flesh Golem and his brother's... Antiva Crow's... And even The calling. Literally... Warden is a Motherfucking god. Like... The Maker Himselft should be the real Threat to the Warden if they got a new DLC. Kieran would be proud of his Dad, and Morrigan... Well... There no reason that She's so fell in love with him. A true Warrior, a true father, and a Real Good Son (Arl of Pinacle and Cyrion, best fathers of the Warden ever)... But... The Inquisitor what? Reunite an army to restore orden, kill an stupid Regular villian and the lies of the Chantry... So dumb Edit: Also, saving youe GF from a Motherfucking God dragon Gilf, later kill a Celestial Dragon, Kill another Corrupted celestial dragon, a 4th Celestial Dragon, and the Equal from Elves and Maker hand. Like, give a Rest to the Warden xd
My favorite companion? Well, I haven't completed the game yet and will most likely start anew multiple times when I'm done. But, I don't really know. They are all great and very unique but maybe Sten or Allistair? Shale is great too but again I haven't finished yet so we'll see. :)
The Warden's are the true definition of what a hero is. It's easy to do good, knowing that the world's eyes are upon you, knowing that you will be rewarded and remembered. But it is another thing to give up everything to protect the world, knowing that you will not be rewarded, and few will remember you.
And the idea that for centuries many of your order will live and die with no point to their sacrifice Unless there is a Blight, all those sacrifices are in vain. That is soul crushing
@@spacejesus6581 I just now saw this, and the thought of all the Warden's that wasted away between Blight's breaks my heart. People who gave everything they are for the chance to save the world, only to descend into insanity and fade away.
David It is to my dissappointment that Dragon Age has now moved away from Wardens and onto be more based on The Chantry and the Maker and His wife Andraste, however I have not played DA2 (although I do intend to) so I may be wrong?
Lol the Grey Wardens are one order of warriors in fantasy that are so badass and cool but I would not want to be. Their lives are all about uncredited, unconditional sacrifice and hardship taken upon themselves for the sake of all others, and ends in tragedy, a hard path to walk.
The343freak With the recent events in Inquisition, I seriously feel terrible for them. Everyone hates them right now and they were all tricked into doing what they did because of the taint.
***** I promise you there's a few Fereldans that are disgusted by it. People turn on you quickly. They might revere the Hero, but that doesn't mean they feel the same about the rest of the order.
Rowan Buchanan Aren't people quick to turn on their saviours? I mean look at how quickly the Fereldans turned on Loghain. Though to be fair he was being quite the asshole. xD
***** In the words of wise Commander of the Grey Kristoff (no, not the one Justice inhabits in Awakening, though there's a theory that they're related), "You will guard them and they will hate you for it. Whenever there is not a Blight actively crawling over the surface, humanity will do its best to forget how much they need you." And it's a true statement. The Wardens go around recruiting people, a lot of whom die, for a problem that people never care about unless they've lived it. Plus, they're a bit of a drain on the economy, and nobody likes the idea of trusting a large group of elite soldiers nearby whose only proof that they won't turn against them is their word, and who won't lend their considerable force to help with anything unless there are darkspawn involved in some way. I can see why a lot of people would dislike the Grey Wardens, personally. The only place you probably won't find much in the way of anti-Grey Warden sympathy is Orzammar, because they have a darkspawn problem literally all the time. Maybe the Anderfels too, but that's extremely iffy.
The343freak i think and i hope that if bioware do another dragon age game (and they must) after mass effect of course the main character will be the hero of ferelden our warden and the plot will be something like searching the cure for the call that makes the warden not live more than 30 years and die in the deep road remember what leliana says about the warden in the inquistion and she is my romance interest i really hope control the warden again with voice actors!! :)
If I had a dime for every time somebody got confused about the origins of a song that was from Electronic Arts' composers, I'd have two dimes, and you damn well know what the other song is!
honestly the reason the grey wardens are this likable is fact that you know full well that there is no happy ending for them but they still go on anyway as it's there duty as grey wardens.
I think everyone (damn near, but you all don't count otherwise) is in agreement that the Grey Wardens are the true heroes of all the Dragon Age games. The sad part is that DA2 and Inquisition prove that not one person cares about the wardens in Thedas, even though the blight was only, what 10 years ago or so. i think that was the true message of Inquisition, your character in Origins was that greatest thing since sliced bread, and no one cares. You were only a Warden so fuck off. Sad really. but gives perspective to DAO dialogue that seemed a little off when you were saving the world.
"In war, heroes. In peace, nuisances." could be their motto. When a Warden's coming is ever a good omen? There is no arguing that during a Blight, the Grey Wardens are the best thing in the world. But outside Blights, they only serve to remind people of absolutely horrible truth they'd rather forget. That there is a whole specie that want nothing else than to kill and/or defile you and everyone you know. All they do is act like they're at war, even outside of war. And war is costly to everyone involved, so there's that too... In short, it's sad, but entirely justified. It's also why despite being so awe-inspiring, the Wardens are always so ill-equipped to face their mission: even if everyone admire them, nobody wants to live like they do.
Reminds me a lot of the army in general. When in war, everyone is all gung-ho about how awesome those men and women are and how much they sacrifice to walk willingly into the horrors of war so you can stay at home and live your life. But in times of peace? Baby killers, meatheads, gun nuts, a waste of good tax money, stormtroopers of the government. It's hilarious how quickly people forget. "We won WW2 and protected your freedom!" "Yeah, but what have you done for us *lately*?"
mark schultz Really the same fate the befell the Grey Wardens also befalls the Inquisition. You're heroes who save the world, risk untold limits of magic and come back from battle broken only for the public to scoff and forget. The Warden, Hawke and Inquisitor all have this happen to them. It's a cycle that remains unbroken.
+ ThePedrao360 He actually said, "then die at a ripe age AFTER 30 years." He also said "since basically the warden you make is defined as about 20-24 (years of age) in game it'd be about 50" Duncan was roughly 18 years of age when he went through his Joining and is said to be around his late 40's maybe early 50's when the 5th Blight starts. Even if he had not met his end in Ostagar, Alistair states at one point that Duncan was starting to hear the "Calling" and would soon go to Orzammar, himself.
+Ecrozz Some wardens wouldn't even get 30 years depending on their exposure to the taint. In other words, if you're a grey warden during a blight you're SOL.
"Should fate hand us defeat, still we cannot stay our march. For it is neither fate nor glory for which we fight, but for the freedom to exist." - Commander Belgen Cousland
There's the Darkspawn, the forces of Chaos from 40k, Gaunter O'Dimm of The Witcher, the Reapers of Mass Effect, and the demons from Doom. And that's just to name a few. Harry Potter fans are adorable, writing their fanfictions, waving sticks around, and pretending that Voldemort, of all things, who was bested by a nearsighted child, is anything even approaching intimidating. It's hilarious, really.
@@jaffarebellion292 " the forces of Chaos from 40k" - oh my... If they were the only nightmare fuel thing there it would actually be far easier for humanity to survive and maybe even thrive in 40k.
@@frostwolf011 The issue with Chaos is that you can never truly get rid of it, because it's the psychic manifestation of indispensable aspects of the universe. Khorne, Slaanesh, Nurgle, and Tszeench will always exist, and even if you COULD destroy them, new Chaos gods would pop into existence. They're pure evil, and they cannot be stopped. Eventually, the Great Rift (formerly the Eye of Terror) will continue to expand and the Warp will swallow all.
@@jaffarebellion292 and that is where Necrons and their pylons come into work. They close down the warp rifts through whatever shenanigans Necrons came up with. So the 4 turds can be stopped but the question is whether anyone will be left to do it if other big bads(Nids and Necrons) get to annihilate life in the galaxy.
@@frostwolf011 Ehh No. Technically if the Necron pylon network would cover the whole galaxy Chaos would still be at large. Although setting foot in the material world would be so much harder to them. But the power of chaos mainly comes from their worshippers. And everyone dreams. And the more numerous humanity becomes , the more and more people get stranded in the bottom. With nothing to lose , but misery the Mutant and the Heretic always turn to the forces of Chaos.Either in time they would sabotage the pylons or destroy them. Btw the Pylons in truth are Ctan technology. Necrons are almost immune to the direct effects of the Warp (hence the missing soul). In my Opinion the Grey Wardens are so much more badass than Space Marines. Because they are simply Regular humans with the power of the Taint. Even if the Grey Warden is succesful to kill the Archdemon and stop the blight. The one who does it , dies. Never once I've met a group (maybe the LotR rangers) that is more selfless than the GWs. Their motto describes them the best. "In Peace , Vigilance. In War, Victory. In death , Sacrafice." PS.: 4:00 it chants the same motto , in german. And it's the most beautyful and touching thing I've ever heard!
You know what I want to see in Inquisition? The Warden leading a band of wardens suddenly comes out of nowhere with this song. And everyone just stare in awe.
ugh i dont care what happen in the games the grey warden will always be heroes to me..... might be cuz im so attached to my dao characters xD ... my opinion is that they deserved more.
***** I don't think the next game as much as I and everyone else would love to see it. Bioware said years ago that the Warden's (your Origins PC) story is over. Also a few months back, one of the writers talking about Inquisition mentioned about how there are too many variables involved to make a decent sequel involving the Warden and that it would take too much work to implement all the important choices and variables. But I still have hope that one day...
***** No no no you get to design your own character but you do se Hawke again yeah but *SPOLIERS SPOILERS SPOILERS* He actualy gets killed and your Grey Warden might have been killed since you get no contact from him so whatever you do or so i have heard.
NO MORE RICH NO MORE POOR ALWAYS THE MIDDLE CLASS FOR ALL!!!! so that 1 shall not overtake the other for that may seem as slavery for the inferior financially one...
It took me 6 years to realize this was sung by Corvus Corax. How I didn't realize it was them I'll never know, but my love for this song has multiplied by 10.

I meant just the solo part at the end thus why I said "while she leads her friends, wardens and allies onwards" so she wasn't alone she just got to end that bad ass song like a boss
Join us brothers and sisters join us in the shadows where we stand vigilant join us as we carry the duty that cannot be forsworn and should you parish know that your sacrifice will not be forgotten and that one day we shall join you..
Imagine you're playing DA4, you're in the final chapter and there's a big battle cutscene, your new character, companions and allies are on their hands and knees getting swarmed by the enemies and losing the fight one by one. Suddenly, this theme kicks in and there's a swarm of Gryphons descending from the sky like the stories of old, with one Grey Warden in particular leading the charge (Face obstructed by a helmet, default model silhouette that changes based on your origins save file/world state) , and they turn the tide of battle in your favor. After the battle, you see that same Grey Warden hugging Alistair/Leliana/Morrigan in the background and fly away on their Gryphon and salute you. If your Origins GW is dead, it won't be as epic since it'd probably be the replacement character from Awakenings instead, but hey it'd still be amazing and worth it for those of us who've had our grey warden alive and well for the last however many years.
Hahahaha not a bad idea! Though for me, about the HoF, I prefer to think that whoever we left behind in the fade they would somehow meet HoF there lol. I mean if you spared the Architect in Awakening the HoF and Architect would search on how to stop the blight from ever happening. So what if their research brought them 2 to the fade lol and when time needed HoF (or someone else if you sacrificed HoF in Origin) they came from the fade and opened the rift to help the DA4 main character. Or probably coming out from random eluvian mirrors that coincidentally was in the place where DA4 epic battle happened hahaha. But seriously if a rift was randomly opened that'd be incredibly amazing too. People were running around and screaming "DEMONS!" and after everyone hid only then they saw HoF stepped out. Was it going to be another Andraste blessing shenaningans or something entirely different would be what the people thought
Not working precisely because some choose the ultimate sacrifice in Origins (like I did). I think it would be interesting a quest where you go to the Fade in search of the character you left behind in Inquisition (Alistair would be the best choice, but it could be Hawke or the generic Warden I don't know the name). If the Warden is alive, he/she accompanies you in the search for that character, if he/she is dead, he/she appears at the end of the quest as a spirit, kind of a revelation that there is something after death in this world and that he/she is there, waiting in the end of the journey through the Fade that takes you to paradise. And maybe if it's a woman who had a relationship with Alistair, she acts as the catalyst for him not returning to the living and preferring to go along with her. After all, if anyone suffers in this universe, it's poor Alistair.
4:01 Im Frieden seie Wachsam, Im Kriege sei Siegreich, Im tot erbringe Opfer, So wirst du ein Grauer Wächter sein. I had to hear the song about 4 times until i realized that this was sung in German.
Dragon age origin was the best for me because it really hits my feelings... leaving your parents to die by the hands of your enemies is really painful.. throughout the game i felt like i was really fighting for justice and vengeance.. and when i finally killed that bastard it felt so good but not for too long because i know i have to die for the freedom of mankind and i did die..
Imagine what kind of dream team of grey wardens there would have been, if Duncan would have had a handful of extra wardens to send each of them to different places, one to cousland castle, one to circle of magi, one to brecilian forest, two to orzammar and one to denerim city to recruit all those 6 individuals and then to ostagar, all would have survived the joining, no other companion would have been needed.. :D
Oh wow that would have been awesome, especially if we got to play all of their origins until Ostagar where they meet up. And we got to design all seven.
"In cooperation with the audio director of Dragon Age: Origins, Simon Pressey, and conductor Bernard Fabuljan, the Berlin band Corvus Corax interpreted the theme melody of Dragon Age in their own style. The result is an epic track over five minutes long, which reproduces the Grey Warden's creed in both elven and dwarf languages as well as in German and English and thus underlines the cinematic character of this extraordinary game."
Cavanda Cousland sat upon her stallion of white, its armour glistening like a star in the night. In her hand she held the sword of her family and in the other she gripped the shield that bore the herald of the Grey Wardens. Beside her was her beloved King Alistair, clad in silver armour and plumed helmet. To Cavanda's rear, massed the vast armies that had been compelled to fight the Darkspawn horde. They all stood abreast, willing to fight alongside each other to the bitter end, regardless of race. The haunting screams of the dying could be heard coming from the burning city of Denerim. The sky was red like blood and the heat of the fires could be felt by Cavanda. Alistair raised his sword and lowered it down to face the incoming darkspawn horde and in the short silence that ensued he shouted at the top of his voice: "For Ferelden!" Canvanda dug her heels into her horse, driving it onwards. The encouraged cries of the alliance brought hope to all who heard them. Before the armies clashed, both Alistair and Canvanda shouted in unison so that all could hear: "In War: Victory, In Peace: Vigilance, In Death: Sacrifice!" This is what it means to be a Grey Warden.
Why do people say: it's Eurasia's anthem? (From 02:55) I found the song in a "top 10 fictional anthems" video marked as "Anthem of Eurasia" from 1984. There is a 10-years-old video too that states this song is Eurasia's anthem. So I thought this song came from the film adaptation of 1984 because of them. I watched the film and I was disappointed because this music wasn't in the movie. Finally, I found some info so now I know, it's a song from "Dragon Age: Origins". And as I searched for the original version of the song, I found *this* video. (I have never played this game, and I know nothing about it. Sorry.) So... so why do they state: it's the anthem of Eurasia (or the Union of Socialist Eurasia)?
It most likely came from some fan made version of the Eurasia anthem and they might've played this game and thought the music reminded them of Soviet music resulting in the unofficial use of this song as the Eurasian anthem
If you have played papers, please you might've heard about the lost country of skoatia which didn't actually exist but was a made up country by a gaming blog from many years ago
The game have socialistic undertone with bits of liberal values, the song does sound "socialist". You can see in the game where the priests in churches are women, religious institution is corrupt and full of drug addicts, the main bad guy is a deluded xenophobic far right nationalist who sold slaves to fund his war effort against his made up enemy, LGBTQ is accepted and nobody care, the whole theme is everyone unite to against the rotten blighted enemy in a corrupt capitalist world which slavery is still practiced.

hi, I think that few people know the soundtrack from this game, besides, almost a minute segment was cut from the composition. but yes, it's a pity that there is no link to the original composition under any of the videos. and yes, would you like to discuss replacing this music as the anthem of Eurasia? there are many Soviet songs that could fit this role.
"The dwarven kingdoms were the first to fall. And from the deep roads, the darkspawn drove at us again and again, until finally we neared annihilation... until the Grey Wardens came. Men and women from every race, warriors and mages, barbarians and kings, the Grey Wardens sacrificed everything to stem the tide of darkness, and prevailed." Rest in peace Peter Renaday it was your voice during this song which sold me the Wardens as my fav faction
I don't think it would have been that easy for the other wardens, the warden during the story got INCREDIBLY powerful. He wiped clean a tower full of aberrations that even the templars had gave up on, defeated demons, ventured all the way in the Deep Roads and in the Fade and killed a dragon. All prior to kill an archdemon. He was no common human nor warden, he was extremely powerful. And the fact that the blight didn't even start means nothing more that its power would have grown even more.

Even with the release of Inquisition, Origins is still my favorite of the Dragon Age series, darker and grittier, a true dark fantasy title. Inquisition disappointed the hell out of me.

This is one of the most atmospheric and epic pieces of music i've ever hear. any time i'm playing a game or reading a book and it gets to a big fight i stop and put this on. if only the music like this and leliana's song were actually in the game properly. this plays in my head any time i watch 300 as well oddly.
You can see how the bows of dalish origin sing of death and darkened sky; the dwarven forces send the darkspawn flying and the humans slaying what there will still come. Da:o is the most epic game there ever was
Origin's was without a doubt the best game out of the 2. It had a superior story, much more lore, and the party members were amazing. If they keep the DA:O stlye, plus the faster face fighting of DA2, I would love it to death.
"Join us brothers and sisters. Join us in the shadows where we stand, vigilant. Join us as we cary out the duty that can not be foresworn. And should you perish, know that your sacrifice will not be forgotten and that one day we shall join you."
They sacrifice their past(family and friends), present( do everything you can to stop the Blight), and future(due to the darkspawn blood). Truly a noble warrior.
I actually felt proud when I got to join the warden's. Sure their life is tough and tragic, but that makes it all the more awesome. With this music in the background of a battlefield you feel less fear about dying and more ready to slay as many darkspawn as possible. Great, great game.
I recently started playing Origins. When I got to Ostagar, I heard that and thought "what the fuck why is the Eurasian anthem playing". Only to later find out that the anthem is actually based on this soundtrack. Insane.

Sanguiluna I'd settle for Hawke and the Inquisitor, but being a grey warden is slightly different I think
That is why the Grey Wardens will just Conscript those who said no. Specially during the Blight

+Whoami691 That made me cry... :'(
+Whoami691 Even when there is currently no blight to fight there is plenty of Darkspawn to kill, and not just in the deep roads.
+Gna Cat I salute you, stunningly good summary of an underappreciated order, agree with ya^^

OH!

Holy shit I'm so sorry what a monster post. I was just rambling you don't have to read that.

Becoming a Grey Warden felt more badass than becoming the Inquisitor.
@@snowinowen4 To be fair, in haven, he really felt like a threat.

The Warden's are the true definition of what a hero is. It's easy to do good, knowing that the world's eyes are upon you, knowing that you will be rewarded and remembered. But it is another thing to give up everything to protect the world, knowing that you will not be rewarded, and few will remember you.
And the idea that for centuries many of your order will live and die with no point to their sacrifice
Unless there is a Blight, all those sacrifices are in vain. That is soul crushing

Being a champion or the inquisitor never came close to being a Grey Warden!!!
Even the Grey Warden song leaks of badassery.
honestly the reason the grey wardens are this likable is fact that you know full well that there is no happy ending for them but they still go on anyway as it's there duty as grey wardens.
I'm Warden-Commander Shepard, and this is my favourite theme in thedas.
"We won WW2 and protected your freedom!"
"Yeah, but what have you done for us *lately*?"

+ ThePedrao360 He actually said, "then die at a ripe age AFTER 30 years." He also said "since basically the warden you make is defined as about 20-24 (years of age) in game it'd be about 50"
Duncan was roughly 18 years of age when he went through his Joining and is said to be around his late 40's maybe early 50's when the 5th Blight starts.

Technically if the Necron pylon network would cover the whole galaxy Chaos would still be at large. Although setting foot in the material world would be so much harder to them. It took me 6 years to realize this was sung by Corvus Corax. How I didn't realize it was them I'll never know, but my love for this song has multiplied by 10.
Explain plz?
It'd be so cool to be a Grey Warden! Except, not at all.
Maybe remove the whole "It's a death sentence either way and you'll still die in 10-30 years."
+Magpie Syndrome 20 to 40 idiot
Homing Missile - said the dimwit kid.
+Alpacino 123456 wow you call him dimwitt but you don't even have proper grammar
If you forget the dying early part, yeah, it would be cool
I will just leave it there?
(Between asterisks are not official words, rather these made up by me, that sound similar, OR ones that I'm sure exist, don't make sense, but sound pretty much like them. This whispers were bitchy. So, yeah.)
Gray warden song:
In Arlathan, *en la suleathi*.
Im Partha, Amgetoll
Im Kallak, Amgarrak
Im Tod, Amgeforn

In Arlathan, *en la suleathi*.
In Peace, Vigilance.

Im Tode, bring Opfer.
So wirst du

German is pretty much the same as English, so yeah.
I can just imagen my female Warden (currently a mage) singing the solo bit at the end as she leads her Wardens, freinds and allies onwards.
I can't.
Because you don't have a bad ass imagination like me
Vlad Dracula Hello, sir, I thought you are dead... Bran Stoker revived you! :(
I can't imagine one person singing this
I meant just the solo part at the end thus why I said "while she leads her friends, wardens and allies onwards" so she wasn't alone she just got to end that bad ass song like a boss
Join us, brothers and sisters. In death, in sacrifice. We'll fulfill our duty.
Join us brothers and sisters
join us in the shadows where we stand vigilant
join us as we carry the duty that cannot be forsworn
and should you parish know
that your sacrifice will not be forgotten and that one day we shall
join you..

Are you still alive? If you are, im here to remind you of this 10 year old comment
@@Pao234_ They are most likely alive, but lost access to the account
2:54 There's the sweet spot...
Dude this concept is so fucking epic i shed a tear; i would give bioware all my money if that happened
And after he/she helps and says goodbye we ask "who was that...?" and they just reply with a smile "that was...hero of feralden"
cliche
This song makes me feel like a bad ass... Seriously. One of the coolest theme songs a character/faction could be granted. I'm dying for Inquisition.

"We have taken over the British Isles and Esatasia. We will be the only superstate on Earth."
Man, this game. The memories..
"In peace, vigilance, in war victory, in death, sacrifice, this is what it means to be a Gray Warden!" this reminded me on Duncan. ;-;
He says that in the Wardens Calling trailer as a narration, but in the earlier days of development Peace and War were swapped
Our Hero of Ferelden, the one
Another die at Ostagar

Hi
"In cooperation with the audio director of Dragon Age: Origins, Simon Pressey, and conductor Bernard Fabuljan, the Berlin band Corvus Corax interpreted the theme melody of Dragon Age in their own style.
The result is an epic track over five minutes long, which reproduces the Grey Warden's creed in both elven and dwarf languages as well as in German and English and thus underlines the cinematic character of this extraordinary game."
When my marching band instructor asks for song suggestions for next year, I'll have him listen to this. XD
when did this become the de facto anthem of Eurasia in 1984?
Some guy on NationStates a decade ago remade Eurasia from 1984 and literally stole this song for its anthem.
Alistair raised his sword and lowered it down to face the incoming darkspawn horde and in the short silence that ensued he shouted at the top of his voice:
"For Ferelden!" Canvanda dug her heels into her horse, driving it onwards. The encouraged cries of the alliance brought hope to all who heard them. Before the armies clashed, both Alistair and Canvanda shouted in unison so that all could hear: "In War: Victory,
In Peace: Vigilance,
In Death: Sacrifice!" This is what it means to be a Grey Warden.
Enjoy, my fellow Andrastians and Wardens!
I would like this comment a thousand times, because that sends chills down my spine! :D

Why do people say: it's Eurasia's anthem? (From 02:55)
I found the song in a "top 10 fictional anthems" video marked as "Anthem of Eurasia" from 1984.
Sorry.)
So... so why do they state: it's the anthem of Eurasia (or the Union of Socialist Eurasia)?
It most likely came from some fan made version of the Eurasia anthem and they might've played this game and thought the music reminded them of Soviet music resulting in the unofficial use of this song as the Eurasian anthem
If you have played papers, please you might've heard about the lost country of skoatia which didn't actually exist but was a made up country by a gaming blog from many years ago
The game have socialistic undertone with bits of liberal values, the song does sound "socialist". You can see in the game where the priests in churches are women, religious institution is corrupt and full of drug addicts, the main bad guy is a deluded xenophobic far right nationalist who sold slaves to fund his war effort against his made up enemy, LGBTQ is accepted and nobody care, the whole theme is everyone unite to against the rotten blighted enemy in a corrupt capitalist world which slavery is still practiced.

hi, I think that few people know the soundtrack from this game, besides, almost a minute segment was cut from the composition. but yes, it's a pity that there is no link to the original composition under any of the videos. and yes, would you like to discuss replacing this music as the anthem of Eurasia? there are many Soviet songs that could fit this role.
for example, this is the anthem of the Communist Party of the USSR. this song has a very beautiful intro.

"The dwarven kingdoms were the first to fall. And from the deep roads, the darkspawn drove at us again and again, until finally we neared annihilation... until the Grey Wardens came. Men and women from every race, warriors and mages, barbarians and kings, the Grey Wardens sacrificed everything to stem the tide of darkness, and prevailed."
Rest in peace Peter Renaday it was your voice during this song which sold me the Wardens as my fav faction

No this is also the current unofficial anthem about the whole continent now as well
In war, Victory. In peace, Vigilance. In death, Sacrifice
Dragon age inquisition says otherwise
I actually felt proud when I got to join the warden's. Sure their life is tough and tragic, but that makes it all the more awesome. With this music in the background of a battlefield you feel less fear about dying and more ready to slay as many darkspawn as possible. Great, great game.
Just know that you can't save everyone, but you can make their sacrifices worth something.
