Alex 'Albono' Albon is back! Its a great chance for him to prove himself again in Formula 1, but it is the right choice for Williams? With Latifi also announced to partner Albon in 2022 where will they finish in 2022?
Any feedback on todays video is greatly appreciated as always, have a great week guys and enjoy the weekend back at Monza!

No offense but Hulk at Williams wasn't really an option. He is 34 and had a long career. Albon has done SIM and testing work over at Red Bull and actually his efforts helped developed this year's Red Bull car. That's something a rookie doesn't have. It's mostly likely why both Williams and Alfa Romeo was interested in signing Albon over Hulkenburg or a rookie. Williams is looking long term.

Williams are probably looking to improve for the 2nd or 3rd year of the regulations change. Considering the love he's been getting from Horner, Perez, and Verstappen this year for his work in the simulator, I bet that had something to do with Williams being interested in him.
They probably don't think he will perform like a champion on race day, but they know he's played a part in helping RB develop and set up the winning car they have this year. So they're probably hoping Alex will help make them build a better car and not so much to win races.
Either way, I'm a huge fan so I'm happy to see him back.

I so happy to see Alex back in F1. This was very much expected after Alpha Tauri announced that Piere and Yuki will stay for next season, that was sign for me that the negotiation between RB and Williams was done and Alex will be in Williams. Now I expect that Quali battle will be close between them since Alex isn't that strong in Quali but I think he will overall beat Latifi on Sunday. I just hope that Williams will be strong with the new reg. cars. They made huge progress since the new investment and I hope they will move more towards the middle and front with the new regulations.

I doubt they would've been able to get Gasly, at least not without paying a lot of money. With Alphatauri no longer being purely the junior team they would want to keep someone who can deliver solid results. With Albon Williams gets a quality driver and maybe he comes with some Red Bull money or something as well. At least he probably wasn't that expensive.

I think Latifi has been under appreciated, tbh. He could have collapsed against Russell, but he kept on, and noticeably improved. I think he absolutely has earned at least another year at Williams, and there are other drivers (one in particular, two at a push) I would rather see go than him. I hope that the lads have a great year in '22, with both showing what they've got going for them. I'd be _very_ surprised if Nicholas hasn't been closely studying George's manner with the team, how he goes about trying to improve himself whilst having taken on the team lead role from day one, encouraging a deeply discouraged team until Dorilton took over (it's probably been a bit of an easier task since then. The crew seem to enjoy racing again :)). Don't be surprised if Nicholas takes over next year and is the one to keep pushing the team forward. I hope he does - and I hope Alex gets a great chance to show what he's truly made of.
Btw, has he had to leave Red Bull? That seemed to be Merc's reasonable request given that they provide the engines.

What if Alpine need to find a replacement for the 41 year old Alonso (who won't race forever) ? Also, if Perez proves a disappointment yet again in 2022, why wouldn't Red Bull want to consider him for a second shot?

I think this is a great fit. Albon has great potential, and with a team that actually cares about him, can build him up and build around him, I think he’ll be a fighter. Happy my fellow Canuck Latifi continues on in F1, I think he has made a few decent steps this year, and now has a chance to move out of George’s rock star shadow. I’m hoping 1 out qualifying of Russell for Latifi this year.
I don’t agree that there was any chance for Gasly to move to Williams….this year. As others have stated, he’s under contract for the rest of next season, and I also don’t agree that bringing an older driver currently out of the sport back in is the best way forward. I think that Albon and Latifi are a good fit for right now. I wouldn’t be surprised if 1 or both are replaced next year, but I think Williams’s looked at who is available, who has F1 experience, because next year will be brutal on rookies with everything new going on, and went with these two young guys who’ve been in the game, know the foundations, and could be the future of the team if they show the performance is there. If they’re not working, well next year Gasly is out of contract, and a healthy contract could be a contender. Or maybe Sainz, who would be out of contract, especially if the Scuderia wants a Schumacher back in red. Perez perhaps if Red Bull wants to promote someone. Even Danny Ric if he doesn’t get a renewal. There more to choose from potentially next season. And honestly their first choice was probably Bottas, but he chose Alfa instead, so Albon is the runner up.
Prediction for the other Alfa seat… Mick Schumacher. I think that there’s nothing more he can learn at Haas other than how to deal with an awful teammate, and moving him to partner Bottas, who is a constructor championship winning driver, would be beneficial for Mick and Ferrari. Haas could then literally take anyone else to be Mazespins partner, like perhaps someone’s grandmother, and start getting some points next year.

Not to mention the contractual limitations, playing safe for 2022 is a no-brainer. You never know who might explode on to the scene with the new regs, we might get revelations in driver form, just because the cars will be so different. I reckon this was the best decision for Williams, Latifi will be a guy who knows the team well, and Alex, who seems to have a knack for development, and has a point to prove. As for some of the other teams mentioned (and not mentioned) - the Red Bull owned seat choices are all sensible, there was no real reason to bring Alex back. Replacing Sergio would be a shot in the foot, just doing the same thing they did to Pierre and Alex, Yuki probably deserves a chance to blossom and build on his raw ability, and for Pierre - he can adapt to the new machinery in a familiar environment, see what his limits are there, and then explore his options.
TLDR, it makes sense in general for teams to retain at least one of their 2021 drivers, so there is someone in the car, who at least doesn't need to learn where each button is on the steering wheel, while getting used to a different machine. Hence why, I reckon Alfa Romeo will keep Gio for one more year, at least, and hope that Valtteri can just jump in to the new car and perform (though I will still hope for a miracle, that Stoff somehow manages to find his way onto the grid).

Never mind qualifying, he is more often behind Kimi than in front of him in the races. Kimi has outscored Gio for three straight years now. Considering that Kimi is in his 40's and merely "driving as a hobby" a driver in his late 20's (their prime) not being able to consistently beating him I don't know why they should keep Gio. Qualifying alone is not very useful unless a driver can make something out of that in the races themselves. Jarno Trulli was a fantastic qualifier (4 poles, put a Toyota on pole twice) but his race pace was lacking.
I believe that Gio will become the "token Italian Ferrari test driver" like others before him.

So if i was a f1 team i would like a man that is not afraid to go wheel to wheel and overtake in unusual places like albon .sure he struggled against verstappen but look at perez and gasly they also got dominated by verstappen . albons last race with redbull was not a bad one putting pressure on the merc's and getting close to a podium i always had a what if senario in mind . if he could have done that the entire if not most of that season he would still be in that redbull . If you compare Albons year at RB (which was just his second year in F1) and Checkos season so far - Albon was not that far off and without the hit by Hamilton, when Albon was in a good position to win a race, he would have had a victory too. I think Albon was a good choice but I question Merc will be happy with it. Might we hear an anouncement from Williams to switch to the RedBull engine?

Red Bull have only eyes for Verstapen, it would be a career breaking move for Gasly to return there.
In what concerns Williams, no its is no longer the old Williams, I am not sure a top driver would risk a long term contract with them for the moment. They first have to demonstrate they still have capacity to build a competitive car. If they succeed doing so, then next year, they will find themself in a much better position to attract top drivers for 2023.

I think the praise he's been getting for being in the simulator this year has a lot to do with his hiring. Williams will be looking to build on this past year and a half and are probably looking to use him more as a car developing driver.
Williams could hit the lottery and have the fastest car on the grid next year but realistically, it probably won't happen. BUT. Having someone who is apparently a very good simulator and development driver may put them in a better place in the second/third year of regulations. I think Williams are looking to the next few seasons and probably don't expect much from him in races.
Whatever the case, I'm a huge Albon fan so I'm happy he's back in a seat.

I called this a long away back... I think Albon has the natural talent, and just needed a car similar to his 2019 RB car and time like Norris. I think Mercedes would actually LOVE to have an awesome #2 driver like Albon who knows can compete with both Russell and Norris and has had better pace than Lewis at least once or twice before. Until Lewis spun him.... as he does... I really think if Albon gets his F1 legs under him, Russell and Albon would be GREAT teammates for a while! They get along amazing and it would help Mercedes Media team too, bringing attention and laughs to the brand in the camera. As well as an awesome #2 driver, with potential to compete

Albon is a great signing for Williams. The thing about Latifi being the best option for them and his money no longer being a influence on the decision is a absolute joke. Yes, he is extremely talented and has a great future in the sport. But not in a formula one car! The sooner he gets dropped & moves to Indy Car, the better. It should have been Nyck. He has proven to have the ability and he would have been the much better option between Latifi & himself
