  • Tools needed: 10mm hex, 24mm wrench, and pump. I wound up using a little over a quart of oil for the front and rear so I'd suggest buying two bottles just in case.

    I did mine today - a 2018 Outlander 3.0L. The drain plug was in a slightly different location and was a 17mm bolt. I used Royal Purple 75W-90. I didn't have a proper fluid pump to fit a 1 qt bottle, but I did have a piece of tubing, and I was able to feed it up through the engine compartment and have a helper just use gravity to fill it.

      planning on doing this service as well at 50k miles on the2017 gt as well with the v6 but i called the dealer and was told specifically they rather we use the oem oil MZ320286 and said the front diff is also the transfer case on this model with the v6 ATF J3 oil type not gear oil. Any issues with that 75=90 ?

    Thanks for the video! 2012 GT/XLS 3.0 V6, just did mine. FYI y’all it’s so tight getting the plug back in place, mine had 2 steel lines also in the way that I don’t see on this video. I ended up taping the fill plug to a flexible claw tool and feeding from behind and above the transmission cross member. I was able to turn with my left hand as well as guiding it square with my right. Not fun. Also had my car up on ramps, highly recommended, jacked the rear to level out for filling.
    Patience required 😢
    15/16” wrench works. Same as 24mm

    Changed the transfer oil last night on my 2011 Outlander 4 cylinder. For that model the fill connection is 17mm, and the drain s the same 10mm hex. Fill location is different than this model- it's above and towards the passenger side. I also had to remove a plastic splash guard to access it, by removing I think a 10 or 11mm bolt and about 8 plastic grommets.

    Hey - You know the part of the video where you warn about it being a knuckle buster? I should have listened better. I'm currently sporting the exact same injury as you. Ha, ha.     Just changed mine 2011 V6, the drain is 10mm hex, fill is 24mm nut; the refilling is little tricky.

      Wow that's crazy. The entire job is under $10 in supplies ($20 if you include the wrench and pump) and takes less than an hour.

      Just paid $325 to have both serviced. $55 parts for transfer case and $55 for parts rear diff, the rest labor. $110 for what, fluid..?? Best of all 1 mechanic did the work but they bill you for 2 separate jobs. Took 1 hour. Total damn rip off but due to warranty can't do myself. Pisses me off because I could do it myself..,blindfolded. Just proves yet again shops are a total rip off.

      @@GPz84 you can change it yourself and it does not void the warranty
      Same for the fluid
      So long as it’s compatible use what you want and that also does not void the warranty
      They call them stealerships for a reason.

    Hi, Thanks for the video! Is the transfer case and the front differential the same thing? I'm asking because according to the Mitsubishi Outlander maintenance Schedule it seems to be two different things. "Replace gear oil in Transfer" "Replace gear oil in front and rear differential".

    Can you help me to clarify one thing? Does gearbox oil merge with transfer oil box? I have a Mitsubishi Montero Pinin that owns this same transfer box.

      In the owners manual, mitsubishi calls for changing the front "transfer oil" and the rear "axle oil" both with SAE 80 oil. Because of this, some folks call the front differential the transfer case. Most vehicles that have a separate transfer case have a separate drain and fill typically using transmission fluid. In the case of my outlander, yes, it's all one unit. When you change the transmission fluid, the only remaining driveline fluids to change are the front and rear differentials.

    It looks pretty tight under there. Do you think it could be jacked up 3-4” and drained, given the drain plug is directly on the bottom? I tried crawling under my ASX (RVR in the US?) and there’s not enough room.

      That's fine as long as the drain is on the bottom of your ASX (it's called the Outlander Sport here in the US). Just make sure you get close to the full fluid capacity out of it. In my case, it's 1/2 quart. Check the capacity chart in your owners manual.

      pasta1298 Thanks for replying. Do you know why there are two similar looking drain plugs, one on the very bottom and another nearby but slightly higher? Is that higher plug also a drain plug for when the car might be jacked up a little? It’s a bit odd to have two very similar looking plugs so close together.

    Do you have a video for How to change transmission fluid on a Mitsubishi Outlander V6 GT Super S-AWC 2016 and up? I would really like to see where the drain plug is since my lube place is telling me that this car does not have a transfer case or that the transfer case is build into the transmission so the transfer case takes the oil from the transmission so when they change transmission fluid they are changing the transfer case as well, thanks

      Sure thing. I can post a video a little later. A drain and fill is a very easy job on the Outlander 6 speed automatic transmission.
      Your shop is correct; the transfer case is not a separate unit like it is on the Evo. So technically I should have called this video the front differential oil change (not transfer case). I don't see an option to edit the title now that I've posted it. Sorry for any confusion!
