J cob she’s too old to cry? Ok, I get that it could be nerve racking to have a crying child during something like this. But, she isn’t too old to show emotion such as crying and we shouldn’t discourage emotions.

The fact that the mom asked the kid in the front seat "what should I do" then looked directly at him and asked again speaks volumes about her trust in his judgement which seems crazy considering how young he is. Great video also I live like 20 mins from there.
I was that kid. I don’t like it. As much as I appreciate having my parent tell me stuff and confiding in me, it became way too much for me. I don’t want that responsibility just yet. I shared my mother’s burden at such a young age and I grew up way too fast because of it. That crying from that girl was so unnecessary and jarring, the danger wasn’t even that bad at that point. @@yeahyeahyeah5089 how you teach your kid plays a huge factor in their overall intelligence and this is coming from experience as someone who has lived with a mother who has cared for at least 20 different kids within my lifetime. Like the original commenter stated, if you treat your kids as adults they will become very mature and tend to become fast learners. Speaking from experience, people who over-do the whole baby talk thing to their kids end up raising children who aren't as intelligent and usually grow up to have lower cognitive levels. Some of my nephews and nieces have mild mental illness which results in them being a bit slow and it doesn't help when their relatives on the other side of their family treat the kids as if they are little "dur brains". We have noticed however that when my nieces and nephews stay with my mother, their habits change. They become more aware of their surroundings and how to interact with the things around them as a kid with normal cognitive levels would. This is simply because my mother perseveres with methods of teaching that doesn't involve "baby-ing" her grandchildren as well as her children. You don't have to be a child born with inherent high IQ levels to be generically smart or intelligent, just teach your kids in a manner that they will be learning ahead of their age and your kids will be fortunate to have a parent(s) who takes that extra thought and time to increase their chances of being intelligent as they grow. It all starts at home
I love this. Good on you for doing the right thing for your children. My mother did the same for her children and she tries to instill the same methods of teaching with her grandchildren. Oddly enough, my brother is the only sibling with children who hasn't followed this method and he continues to ignore my mothers advice and constantly "baby talks" to his children as well as teach them at levels below/at their recommended age rather than teach them at a level higher than their age.. This has resulted in his children being a bit slow in comparison to the rest of the grandkids because the rest of the grandkids are either being raised with my mother or are being raised by my siblings who have listened to my mother when she says "treat your children as if they are small humans and not illiterate baboons". I totally agree with you as I have seen how it really works in children. Speaking to them in a mature manner and teaching them ideas, principles and concepts above a child's age/maturity group will result in an intelligent child who has high functioning cognitivity as well as a child who is mature and sensible for their age. 😁

I have watched this a few times. Brave, calm mama. God bless you.
I like how they all run in the store like the world is ending, then a few people walk out casually like what’s up with those guys?
That was the store employees coming out to help find my son’s glasses.
@@ahhyeah wow. Thats going above and beyond ❤️
Exactly what I said lol 🤣
But to be fair they didn't see the tornado
Lol exactly
And they went right back in
That's no boy he is a man he didn't panic he just helped get his family somewhere safe I respect that
It looks like he's the oldest brother so it's pretty much his job. I'm glad I'm the youngest in my family though.
Front seat is the 3rd oldest.
Oh...
He even knew which directions the winds were coming from, and which way EAST was. Bloody heck.
And it's clear that party of his character by the way mom relied on him. "What should I do? What should I do?"
What a kid. Helped keep his mom from getting overwhelmed in an incredibly tense and stressful situation. Awesome family!!
Can’t even play shotgun with this family anymore. Kid in front seat will forever hold that throne. Mind as well etch his name on the front seat now
I’m weak lmfaoooo
Both the mother and child are incredible. The parents raised a brave and smart young boy and the mother herself to have the ability to delegate and trust her son in such a stressful situation. All around incredible.
son delegates mother not other way round. i exactly know how that feels bc my mother was the same. your only chance is to do it yourself. panicing mother doesnt know what to do.
So impressed with the entire family. What a team they were. They worked to keep their upset sibling calm and that boy was so quick and so smart for his mom, who is one awesome lady as well.
That child in the front helping his mom. Sensing she needed a calm head to help her..and the 2 in the back calming the one crying. Awesome family.
They only noticed the kid in the front lol.

What a brave family. I live in Ireland where tornadoes sometimes happens but on a much much smaller scale. I have often admired how folks in the USA can deal with the extreme weather. It must be a very frightening experience. Bless you all.
It is very frightening. I moved out of the south purely because of the very frequent dangerous weather. Now I live in seattle, no tornado or hurricane fear here.
@@nolimit6377 same here!! It used to be a tornado every other weekend sometimes during tornado season. In WA you just have to worry about power outages from fallen trees.
@@nolimit6377 Now you just have a looming volcano that will obliterate Seattle when it erupts, which could be tomorrow or 10,000 years from now.
Dude! It's crazy. I was watching a TV show that talked about natural disasters. Most of the time they had things in parts of Europe in North America period when they got your tornadoes it was nothing but the US. I asked my dad if you're up and doesn't get tornadoes or something. He said "not really"
That blew my mind

No clue who this family is, but bravo to all of them. What a job by mom staying calm and decisive even when she was asking what should I do. Those boys are studs, calm and helpful. Unbelievable dynamic in that van. I wish I could say I would have handled it this well with my kids. Bravo.
I can’t imagine being a parent with a kid crying in a situation like this. Props to you for keeping so calm.
I get annoyed when my dog won't stop barking at the mail man, so I would totally lose my mind with a wailing child. I'm not cut out for being a parent at all, but at least I know that before damaging an innocent child I guess!

Illegal driving at a time like this is perfectly acceptable. First responders like less people to respond to, so any laws broken safely to get to safety is ok.
Thanks, thats good to know.
Yep I am not waiting for a light to turn green if there's a tornado or anything coming my way I'll gladly pay the fine for breaking the law at least I'll still be alive to pay it hat's off to you and yours good job
Thanks for your approval. I'm sure she would be happy to know this.
I think it's fairly obvious that the police won'tl be trying to make their monthly traffic violation citation quota during a 100+ mph wind storm!
@@DetroitGoldie I'm sure she also thanks you for your unnecessary comment 🙄
“And I believe we can drive faster then this”. 🤣. Attaboy.
Ricky Bobby would be proud of that kid
Omg I Love the kid behind her. He reminds me so much of when I was driving with my 9 year old out of a wildfire two years ago. He's going to do big things in life.
The boy has the mark of a leader. He was aware that things were out of his control, yet kept his composure through it all and helped lead mom/siblings to safety. That can't be taught, it's just natural talent. As for violated traffic laws, I'd hope people would understand the circumstances called for that action.
Pretty sure no officer is going to give them crap for getting to safety good job all around
The mum became like a warrior. Her kids are in danger and she drove that car like a pro. Kudos to the boys not panicking especially the one in front with his quick think. Alhamdoulillah

And then 10 minutes in the storm the power went out so my dad went out side and set up a generator in the middle of the storm and my airport in Ames Iowa picked up 130 miles per hour winds

I was manager on duty in a store when this storm hit, and people looked at me like I was crazy when I directed everyone to proceed to the back of the store, away from all the front windows.... until the lights started flickering, the power cut, and the roof and windows were rattling. I couldn't believe how oblivious people were to this approaching storm. Everyone was taken by surprise. They thought maybe we'd get a light rain. I had been monitoring it for a couple of hours though and saw that it would be a big one.
edit: The tornado siren started going off, and a lady impatiently asked for my help to get a balloon bouquet. I looked at her like she was nuts.

Haha. I didn’t watch long enough, so I’m glad I saw this comment. They reconsidered pretty quickly after walking outside.
I’ve always asked my kids opinions, I’ve always listened to what they have to say. I avoided “baby talk” and spoke to them as small humans from the day they were born and even asked others not to baby talk to them. They are well spoken, intelligent…they know their value and that in respect their input. I watch my oldest two doing the same things with their children and it warms my heart.
Children are small humans and everything they become in life is from what they learn, see, feel. Include them. Always.
