Cooper student scores a perfect 36 on ACT

Less than 0.1 percent of all students who take the ACT get a perfect score. But a sophomore from Robbinsdale Cooper High School did it in December.
"I was very excited to hear that we had a sophomore to get a 36 on the ACT," says Laura Ritter, college counselor at Cooper High. "It's unheard to have a student get a 36, but to be a sophomore in December of your sophomore year is incredible."
Min-Hyung Choi, 16, attributes his score to paying attention in class.
"First, I paid attention to classes in school, which really helped," says Choi. "I think class is a little underappreciated. I think it's a lot more important than people think."
Choi also took practice tests in the weeks leading up to the ACT.
While Choi's perfect score might make him breathe a sigh of relief, he isn't resting on his laurels. He is still a serious student.
"Min is a sophisticated mathematical thinker. He's patient, he's clever, and he works hard," says Brian Kind, teacher. "He has all of the elements you need to be a clever student."
Min-Hyung Choi hasn't decided on which college he wants to attend.
