In our latest dyno test we have this 2021 G20 BMW M340i in for tuning and testing. After an installation of our 3 Channel Pro Petrol chip tuning box, it was up on the rollers to see what the engine could achieve.
Now we know the B58 is a very capable engine, we have already seen a lot of this on our channel, so we already know the tuning potential from this M340i. Our linked, braked 4wd dyno also suited perfectly here for BMW’s All-wheel drive xDrive system.
Another thing to note, is that these vehicles currently have locked ECU’s with no way to read or write the ECU data. This means that while traditional remapping is impossible, our tuning box can give owners the opportunity to make fantastic gains without requiring a traditional ECU flash. This has the added benefit of being traceless once removed for warranty purposes.
Dyno testing before and after shows healthy gains across the rev range, with a significant increase in power and torque, really transforming how the M340i feels to drive.
Peak power was significantly increased, as we were able to lift it from 373hp at stock, up to 441hp with the box. If you take a look at the dyno graph here 0:41 you can see how we change that curve (dotted red and blue lines). We give real consistency here, bringing that extra power in as soon as possible, whilst holding it for as long as possible throughout the rev range. Pay attention at around the 2500rpm mark, you’ll see how that extra power is brought in right down from those lower revs, and then held across that entire mid-section, adding that +68hp at its peak, really transforming how it feels out on the road.
Torque also saw some really impressive improvements. Stock figures showing slightly higher than what is claimed, producing 552Nm instead of the 500Nm claimed, but not particularly unusual to see strong stock figures here, as they can often push higher than BMW claim. At stock the engine produced 552Nm and now 745Nm with the box. If you take another look at the graph (solid lines), you can really see where we have applied those gains. Again at around the 2500rpm mark, you’ll see where those improvements really spike, adding the +193Nm extra at its peak, delivering that increase exactly where it’s needed.

Wow. Big gains 😮 impressive
Really nice gains on this one, and a gorgeous car to begin with.
Can this be installed on a US model M340?
Yes absolutely 👍
Is this power on the MAX setting or the recommended setting?
Hi, this is on setting C6 which is the as delivered setting. The higher settings are not designed for a stock car. they are designed to get best results with further mods.
What further mods would you consider for the higher settings please? I have this car and your box.
How much?

Is that Crank hp or RWHP
Depends what you are asking. I'm assuming that from the question and username you are from the US?
Its crank hp, measured on a European dyno. That's roughly identical to "RWHP" measured on a Dynojet if you are looking at a comparison.
For a similar power comparison, there are tons of examples showing that a US Spec Dynojet measures a bone stock F80 M3 at 450 RWHP. We measure a bone stock F80 M3 at a little under 450hp at the crank, much like BMW do.
