Trangia Style Mess Tin Cook Set

I take a look at an aluminum rectangle Mess Tin cook set that comes with a steamer grill, folding stove, wind screen and carry bag.

Those square mess tins work well. I've got a set from my Military Service dating back to the 70's. We knew them as 'Dixies'. My Esbit Stove was my first issue in February 1968 and still in use. I no longer use the Esbit Tablets as Alcohol Liquid or Gel Fuel is cheaper and easier to source, although I do store a pack of tabs in the folded stove for 'just in case'.
An observation .. storage of the Mess Tin Accessories. If you put the Windscreen in at the bottom, the griddle upside down on top with the feet pointing up, then 'nesting' the Esbit Burner between the feet. This should give a little more 'head room' in the Tin.

We must be about the same age, I went into the USAF after collage in 73.
I've played around with solid fuel but I don't like it because of the usual complaints, smell and tar soot.
It is the best for survival kits or backup fuel for other stoves. I keep the folding stoves with solid fuel in my vehicle survival kits.

'73, I was 23 at the time and working 'down the (gold) mine'. USAF .. I believe you flew Skyhawks? Me .. I was one of those mentally deficient characters that jumped out of perfectly functioning aircraft carrying lots of ballast 😁. Called it a day in '84.

Let me put it to you this way . Its just a combination of what a particuler factory in China had on hand . Before they put them together as a " new " kit , they were making them all seperately for another client . When the contract ran out , they had the dyes and perhaps even some left over product on hand . Somebody got the idea to put a few related knock off products they were making together, and sell them as a new item . Sometimes it works , sometimes not . Not saying thats bad , but the Chinese are starting to do this with other things as well . Not one item individually is anything we have not seen before . Just clever marketing on their part .

I'm not sure. I have seen different stainless bento boxes on Amazon and Ebay but not identical to this set.

Make a video on the small altoids fuel can , because you can find tins of candy like that at the dollar store . The esbit tablets smell like ass , and stink up your gear in storage , be good to replace them with something like what you made .

You are correct about esbit, I don't like them and only have them for emergency but a lot of people like them, i don't understand 😊
I haven't seen the small tins at my dollar store, but I don't have a sweet tooth so rarely go down the candy isle but I'll definitely check it out the next time I'm there, the wife well eat the candy in the tins 😊.
