  • Would you love a vintage Christmas tree but you don’t own any actual vintage ornaments? I’m going to show you how to achieve the look by shopping at Hobby Lobby and Walmart.

    Hi Becky,
This was definitely a bit of a walk down "memory lane" for me. Growing up, we would save our Christmas cards from year to year and use these to do crafts. One I remember was making gift tags.
We would cut the design out with pinking shears and add a bit of curling ribbon through a hole made with a hole punch! The ladies in my mom's church group would sell these, maybe 10 for 25 cents, during coffee hour. 🎄

That’s so interesting, when o made the craft I didn’t even think about crafting with Christmas cards but that is exactly what they look like. Happy accident.

Haha. In the early sixties, my parents bought a silver tinsel Christmas tree it was either six or seven feet tall and had a color wheel. My father was so brought of that tree it was their first artificial Christmas tree. He wouldn’t let us add the Christmas ornaments to the tree because he thought it would detract from its beauty.

Grew up cutting live trees, decorating with lights, shiny bright ornaments and tons of icicles. Was in my 50's before artificial tree and it was an alpine. Now I have a sparse twig tree. Live the homemade ornaments.

Don’t you wish we knew then the value of what we didn’t think twice about back then. I didn’t have a silver tree from my childhood but what I wouldn’t give to get my hands on my mothers ceramic tree.

  • @TowardsASimpleLife

We always had love trees - almost everyone did. I do remember seeing those silver tinsel trees in the hardware store window and couldn’t figure out why anyone would want one. 😊 A couple of years ago, I bought my grandkids mini tinsel trees and this year, I bought myself a pretty Champaign gold tree from Target (all small trees). So it goes to show you that you never know what you’ll do eventually. I wish I could show you the Santa Claus ornaments we had when I was a kid. You’d probably love them. The Santa Clauses are in these little 60s kind of acrylic boxes. We actually made popcorn garlands and paper chains. If you are talking about the 60s, then no - Hobby Lobby’s interpretation is wrong. Most of my fiends out tinsel (as in you had to carefully hang it one strand at a time) on their trees. We did a few years. Fun video!

  • @shirliepriestley8761

Thank you for the walk down memory lane. My parents bought a silver tinsel tree in 1954, it was used every year until 1986/7 . look for thin strands of coloured tinsel, cherubs , santa’s snowmen, deer and loads of bells. These are the ornaments i remember fondly.

I saw one of those tinsel trees this week and would so love to have it. It even came with the color wheel. I think must have been so magical to look at as a small child on Christmas

For a couple of years in the early 60’s, we had an aluminum tree with a color wheel. But a vintage Christmas tree to me is what we had when I was growing up in the 1950’s. It was a real tree and it was decorated with Shiny Bright ornaments, bubble lights and lots of silver tinsel that had to be placed on the tree one strand at a time! I guess “vintage” has a different connotation for us older folks! But yours is beautiful and your faux vintage ornaments look great.

    • @MyLittleVintageHome
      @MyLittleVintageHome  ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you Leslie. I had a tree like you are describing, I remember those icicles hanging everywhere and they were glorious. I think when I picture “vintage” in my mi d I have a mixture of he 50’s through the 80’s. I need to stick to one era right. Lol! I just love all of it.

@@MyLittleVintageHome try decorating your black tree for Christmas too! That's what I do with my Halloween tree, I just pack away Halloween ornaments and decorate the black one for Christmas. I don't do vintage on it, I make a theme of Winter night, with white owls and stars, moons, etc. It's so pretty. You'll read about this again in the comment I made above, LOL.

I don’t have a memory of vintage Christmas to fall back on to recreate a vintage look tree. I must count on amazing content creators like you to help me see and realize it! I have always loved the vintage look as my vintage glass and household pieces attest, but no memory of them being in my life growing up. Or very little of that look anyway. And no, the decorations you showed were not ugly, just what I am recognizing as vintage! The Victorian look faces on the bumpy pipe cleaners scream vintage and also fall into my memories of my childhood Christmas. You matched them perfectly! This video is so much fun! Thank you Becky! 💛🎄🎃💛

This video made me so happy!!! I love vintage Christmas, it's how I decorate every year. I buy lots of vintage ornaments from thrift shops, people give away the best stuff, lol! I can't wait to get the supplies at Hobby Lobby and make these ornaments, they'll be so nice to add to my collection, I love reproduction vintage pieces just as much as the real thing. I have a 6 foot silver tree, a 6 foot black tree (I use it at Halloween and then decorate for Christmas in a Winter night moon/owl theme) and then new for this year I have a 7 foot hot pink tree!! My 6 foot green one broke so I'll be buying a new one in green too, lol, as you can see I have at least 3 and sometimes 4 trees to decorate. I feel the same way as you do, I'm still in Halloween mode but I'm looking forward to Christmas so much! And if you don't grab things early for Christmas, same as for Halloween, it'll be gone. Love your ornaments and I can't wait to start making them!

When I was growing up, my parents and grandparents had silver or white trees. Our silver tree had a stand that rotated the tree. We had a stationary light on the floor. Our ornaments were colorful glass balls. One of my grandma's had glass balls, birds and little pinwheels that we blew on as the tree circled around. I still have some of my parents glass balls. Each Christmas I display them in a jar to keep them safe. Thank you for bringing back these sweet memories.

The ornaments you made are darling! I was wondering if Johanna Parker had Christmas! I literally picked up the only Halloween (sugar and creamer) that I saw at Marshall’s. I’ll have to make the 30 minute drive to the nearest Ross. They seem cheaper than Home Goods and Marshall’s.

They are a little cheaper but not by much. The difference is you can buy them individual and not in a set of two. They are 7.99 each at Ross and I believe around 18 or 19.99 for a set of two. Ross has definitely gotten more expensive than they have been in years past. I remember when those Johana Parker mugs were only 3.99 each a couple years ago.

i completely understand vintage is not beautiful it is what it is right??? I grew up in the 60s so i know... i had my mom's vintage ornaments but over the years they all broke, i should have been more careful :( ...I have bought a few boxes of vintage ornaments on ebay, but i love your printouts and they work wonderfully...nothing brings back memories and that old familiar nostalgic feeling!! I remember the color wheel on the silver trees and the paper silver icicles lol...i used to get so excited when mama would let me put those on the tree, always a real tree not many folks had fake ones back then...i have a ceramic santa from the 60s its a bank that i love. I also have a great photo of me on santas lap in 61...i love your video keep them coming!!! God bless

If you are like me those few and precious things that actually survived my family are my most coveted possessions. Not many things made it but the few things that did I guard with my life.

Since you have a white tree you can spray paint the atomic Silver ornaments red or pink or any other color

Hey Becky! I’m just learning about Johanna Parker and I found those cute Santa salt and pepper shakers today. I decided to run jute twine down through the holes and tied it off to make a hanger to hang them on my tree. I’m making a small vintage tree this year with some of my mom’s ornaments that was passed down to me. Do you know if Johanna Parker does Christmas ornaments too?

That is so clever! I love that idea. I haven’t seen any ornaments from her but your idea is genius to make some.

@@MyLittleVintageHome oh boy! Thanks so much for letting me know and I will definitely be in the lookout. The Santa ornaments I made from the salt and pepper shakers turned out so cute and I can’t wait to see them on the tree.
