Hi Mike, great to meet you the other night. I really enjoyed JOHN, thank you for putting them on my radar. They got big thumbs up from the kids as well, always good to pass the baton on. I’ll be back in Leeds on Sat 6th Oct to see the Wedding Present so let me know if you are planning to go see them as well. If any other Leeds gigs crop up between now and then I’ll let you know. My ears perked up when you talked about the 3 johns and John Langford. He and the Mekons moved to Chicago in the '90's and I've enjoyed seeing him live with them and his other bands like the Waco brothers. He's a talented artist as well. If you find yourself in Chicago I'm sure he'll be playing somewhere!

Hi Mike, another Mike here. Just to say have been enjoying your content the past few weeks, and have now subscribed (sorry, a little belatedly!). I have only recently started re-collecting vinyl and have found the vinyl community not just very entertaining but also hugely informative. That said, with so much information to hand, it has also caused me a degree of confusion, not least about how best to clean and protect vinyl. In some ways this has taken away a little of the enjoyment of just listening to records, something that seemed less complicated back in the 80s when I was last collecting. I think I will maybe take the opportunity to pester some of you guys in the VC over the coming weeks with a few (probably stupid) questions in an effort to allay some of my worries and uncertainties! Anyway, keep up the great work!!!
Hi Mike, thanks very much for the sub. I know some people invest in expensive record cleaning machines. However I keep it quite simple, a bit of Spincare record cleaning spray, wait a couple of minutes and then wipe it off with a lint free cloth. This usually does the trick. Cheers... Mike
@mikevinylspiral thanks for the advice. I think my problem is my ears have become conditioned to digital music. Have bought some reissues in shrink, and those are generally fine. I did with some hesitation though bid on some items in a recent auction, first 2 All About Eve albums, then early press of No More Heroes by the Stranglers (had Fame reissue already but wanted a 'proper version') and the main target was the Raven by the Stranglers with holographic cover. Did win the items, description on all was excellent for vinyl, suggested had never or rarely been played. I received the albums, all looked good, lovely sheen on the vinyl but when I played them, got some background noise, mainly noticeable between tracks. This was after my usual wipe over as you suggest. So got some distilled water, carefully gave them a bood wash, and still the same. Just wondering if I'm being too fussy with records over 40 years old and that a bit of surface noise is just par for the course?
