My chat is lovely, but sometimes they give REALLY BAD ADVICE when it comes to what it takes to play mario kart wii in 2021. So here's a quick response on how to ACTUALLY play Mario Kart Wii Today, without any fancy SD hacking stuff.

If you are on WIIU Virtual console It's exactly the same process, go into your internet settings and set the custom DNS. See you on the track!
Edit: if you're having issues connecting, check if you're using a more modern router. Newer routers can't connect to Wiimmfi

@@Esto12 Dolphin is slightly more difficult to setup. You are gonna need a save file from a real wii.

I already have CTGP installed, but this is a very cool and easy way for those who don't want to go through all the modding and set-ups just to play online.

For anyone still here in 2024 getting error 60000, I was having the same issue and figured out it was because I had already used my license on the official Nintendo servers before shutdown. Creating a new license fixes the issue, although it does unfortunately mean you have to grind out karts and characters again.

Ironically, during the time of this upload, there is currently a ddos attack on Wiimmfi which is preventing online play.

For me I now know why Mkwii online doesn’t work. Since the Wii/Vc Wii runs a network slower than most modern online routers, it means that it doesn’t work with modern work routers. So I have to connect my Wii U to the Wi-Fi w via an Ethernet adapter
I was facing this issue as well. Just ordered my adapter but does the dns server he used in the video still work?

You can use your phone hotspot if you have one, that's what I did at first until I got my wifi back.

Now the only thing i need is a Wii and a copy of Mario Kart Wii
For tinkers, modders and the wider hard core Mario Kart Wii community, this method is redundant at best. But for those with a vanilla Wii lying around for years, this method is superb. Patches, mods and even a PC along with an SD card are no longer recquired to play online. Hopefully this gets more people into modding their Wii. Anyways, cheers

@@Arcintel Yeah, Bean's video involves patching/modifying the disc whereas the method you showcased was introduced in May (as it says on the Wiimmfi website).

Honestly I think you might be confusing ctgp with online. Ctgp contains online which contains the wiimfi server. It also does require an SD card to use and I guess you can call it modding. It's a debate. Just thought I put this out there as many tie the two together.
Also if you do this method you are just trading custom tracks and 200cc for online battle mode which is ok if you like that

it's a similar process with a mac, the only difference is you use a different file browser
