No show will ever encapsulate mundane family life and its problems like the Sopranos so beautifully and effortlessly does. Its depictions of mother in laws, children during pre teen and teen years as well as college years and a handful of other situations, is so realistic its second to none as far as tv dramas go.
Mary and Livia are 2 sides of the same coin. Both are degrading to their husbands and children, but Livia gets the most flak for it because she tried to get her own son killed whereas Mary just oversteps her boundaries. Also keep in mind, would Mary end up exactly like Livia if she married someone as evil as Johnny Boy instead of the chad Hugh DeAngelis or vice versa? It feels like because of how both mothers ran their respective families, it felt inevitable that Tony and Carmela would get hitched.
Janice is so freakin' useless and lazy that her only talents are keeping the chair warm by her fat butt and pouring wine into a glass like a grape connoisseur.
