I rode one of these motorcycles years ago and I found it to be an absolute BEAST!!!
My first bike was a Yamaha 100 . 1971 model . it made my whole world of thought about bikes . I have a 1981 CB900 Honda custom now and have wanted a VMax since they came out .
My first bike was a 1972 Yamah 80 GT I saved money from age 9 to age 12 to buy a new one..
My Neighbor had a Yamaha 100 Enduro .. The road I lived on was torn up gravel and sand to repave it and he went buy wide open one day with a Sheriff chasing him
Speaking from experience, These bikes are scary AWESOME!! Also a hell of a lot of fun especially if you like to take it to the edge!

Beautiful machine dude this has always been one of my favorite bikes. Same engine as the yamaha venture cruiser. Yamaha venture 1300 bottom end with the vmax top end is a hoot of a ride. You'll have to mod the air box to fit the vboost system in but you'll have the nastiest sleeper cruiser around. The WTF look on the sport bike riders faces once they catch up with you is worth the work.
Most Harley riders are smart enough to know the sport bikes will wax them but many think a V-Max is just another Cruiser.. Then again most of the Japanese crusirs can wax an HD anyway ...

I'm had them all ,American bikes Japanese bikes ,Italian bikes. Only difference is that I've had 2 vmax. Can't beat a vmax.

I came from dirt bikes and then sport bikes so yes it was different it took me a minute I'm six foot two but I love it and in that position you are much more alert and being alert is exactly what you need on that crazy bike but it's been on my bucket list since they came out when I was in I don't know fourth or fifth grade my buddy had a subscription to Cycle World and we looked at all the comparisons and stuff and it was like man I want that thing and the chance came a few years ago when I jumped on it it only had 5200 original miles and I was the third owner.
Man just that startup says POWER!
I don't know,.. But I think I broke the sound barrier back in the 70s with my 750 Kawasaki two stroke .. .. I was the the fastest thing going back then.. No one could beat me..

had a 74 H2 fastest thing around in my hills. I road it 400 miles once , couldn't feel my tante for a week.
And those 3 cylinder Kaws were cheap. They outran bikes that cost several times as much.
My favorite V-Max are the ones from the 1980's

Have an 89 also. Has a vintage kerker pipe too. Love that sound.

I got a v65 that's an 80s.
I had a 92 that I went all out on. Custom paint, polished motor casings, lowered, 4 into 1 header,...loved it. I'm going to get a new one before much longer...

I love the V-Max. I had a Honda V65 Magna it would run a 10.87 quarter mile.It had 107 horsepower at the rear wheel not quite a V-Max but close.

Almost thirty years after the V-Max first hit the market, its shape still remains out of touch! One of, if not the nicest-looking motorbike ever designed and produced in the history of bikes!
When it first came out in 1985 I thought that it looked weird but its looks quickly grew on me. Today I own a 2009 and the same thing happened. I thought that it looked weird at first but its looks quickly grew on me. I wouldn't describe it as beautiful though. I would describe its appearance as brutal and intimidating. Its looks perfectly match its character and performance. Its appearance is polarizing. You either hate it or you love it. I am in the latter camp.
Bike looks beautiful as a USAF vet also with front intakes and exhaust pipes the way they are

Not too many bikes have a hard brass balls look to them like the V-max, and it had the muscle to back up the look.

A solid engine design. The same basic engine was in two of my touring machines. My 1986 venture Royale, and my 2002 Yamaha Royal star Venture. I put over 200,000 combined miles on those two machines, never had a problem,Although I must point out that the 1986 Venture royale ran circles around my 2002 road star venture..too bad Yamaha couldn’t get the machine to actually go around corners like a sport bike at the same time. reminds me of the 1978 release of the Yamaha XS 1100 which upstaged the CBX as the quarter mile king for one month until Suzuki came out with a well-balanced package that was faster than the CBX and the XS 1100, and it would actually go around bends - The GS 1100 E
I sold motorcycles at a Yamaha dealership when the Vmax came out. At the time I owned a Yamaha FJ 1200.. I was curious about the claim that the Vmax was faster than the FJ 1200 so I took one for a ride. I was actually stunned by the amount of torque the Vmax had over my FJ 1200. At the time, I actually described it as ridiculous Torque.. I saw that it was too much right now torque. There are degrees. Then as today, I prefer heavy fly wheel flatter torque delivery motorcycles but for those that feel that too much is just enough, the Vmax hits the spot.
Air cooled has its limits in power. The FJ push it to that limit.
I had 3 Vmax and I know lots of people that own one, the first generation as a huge problem in second gear, they break easily, lots of them!

There is no other bike that combine the torque and speed on such level. Being driving the old and the new one, friend of mine own both. Beautifull, the new one is just crazy bike mix of naked, cofee, bober and crochrocket in one.
No other bike...……......…….except the B King.
@@johnjones5977 my friend those are two totallye different bikes with a different concept. B-King is naked Busa with Inline 4 that one is V engine. For the Busa - King you will need a High RPM to get to the power. By the V-Max you have the power towards the whole line of the RPM😰, comprende?
That's not what you stated, my friend. You stated that there is no other bike to combine the torque and speed at that level. Well...……...the B King doesn't have as much torque, but it is quicker in the quarter and faster on the top end. Comprende?
@@johnjones5977 so that mean I am right. Thank you for the correct statement. By the way my Friend, want to tell you the differences, point by point: 1. Different concept of the engines. 2. Different look. 3. Different RPM and acceleration ( here you are right the B-King is faster ). 3. Different ammount of produced bikes. 4. The price tag is also different , V-Max almost 20 G. The B-King 13 G. So every one look around, from his own tower. B- King is a naked Haysbusa and I've one. When the B-King come out they called that bike : " Killer Busa", for the fact. I ride bikes since 1967 , I respect your opinion , if I've possibilities will buy different bikes for every day of the Week.

Took one for a test drive in 85'. Couldn't buy it. I'd be dead within a week. That bike needs respect. But I loved it!
My dad bought an 89 brand new, an $11,000 bike, for $5500. The fastest he ever got it up to was 147 with me on the back. It was a badass bike.

VMax.Beautiful designed motor and great seat and position.. My zx14r has 200rwhp and weighs 255 kg wet. The new vmaxs are similar. Yammies are great well made nice finished bikes ive had 3.

One of my favs. I have had kaw kz900 and eliminator 900 and vmax was next. Never drove one. They look heavy.
I had a 85 ZL900 Eliminator and that bike was rolling death. I learned real quick to respect the looks does not match the performance. Straight line bike.

Owned a vmax for about 10 years.
Great bike but not for the faint hearted. But they only have a range of about 90 miles on a full tank.

Harley's V-Rod is actually a few tenths quicker in the 1/4 mile and with 2 less cylinders.
@@47485ksc who even cares about driving in a straight line? Bloody fast will always be bloody fast an no one will notice the difference between a few tenths more or less. As long as the bike is fun it's fine
@Rem You want "fun"? You should try my 1979 Yamaha SR500 single cylinder 4 stroke. It has an ultra rare Hi-Per-Kinetics Stage Two (of four) running about 25hp more than stock (32.5hp stock) Got 4 show trophies in the last couple of years. Scary fast to ride. I'm 65 and pushing 300 pounds and don't ride it anymore. It's for sale. It's the bike behind me in the picture. By the way, the Stage Four engine is 716cc's! Try kick starting one of those singles! (no electric start on these bikes)
