The new 2022 NERF Ultra Speed is the latest and greatest in the foam flinging line that nobody seems to like. The blasters are reshells of things we already have had a dozen times already, now just firing a dart that nobody seems to want. The Ultra Speed advertises hitting a firerate of up to 7 darts per second... but can it even do that? And all of the other problems it has? And yet... it's still fun!? If they were making a new mag, they should have experimented with a double stack
The darts would get smooshed out of shape
Doesn't really work outside of real firearms, you don't have a lot of room to move the darts around / forward into a chamber before they hit a flywheel etc, plus they have a decent amount of friction keeping them all stuck together
@@brown7583 Ultra is perfectly suited to double stacking because the styrofoam darts wouldn't squish like normal darts. The real problem is that double stacking wouldn't let them get the fire rate they're looking for.

I saw the Speed at target the other day. I'm disappointed that the mags are not cross-compatible. And it's too pricey for what it gives 😐
And you would be better buying a Rival Perses. About the same rate of fire (maybe even faster), 50 round hopper, cheaper Rival rounds, and rechargeable battery makes it a better blaster. Also it's old enough you could find one cheap.
It also jams for me.

The profile of this thing is awesome. The proprietary mags just cement the feeling I don't want one unless it's converted to regular or short darts.
NERF checklist:
Overpriced? Check.
Corporate double speak everywhere? Check.
Ammo type no one likes? Check.
Proprietary dart loading that doesn't really work and aren't currently being sold separately? Check.
Outclassed by almost everything dartzone has put out in the last 2 years? ULTRA CHECK.

It's outclassed by its own products. The Rival perses is this, but better in every way.

Dart zone hasnt done a really high fire rate flywheeler yet tho when they do this will become useless
@@jknifgijdfui Plug a 3S LiPo into the (conveniently already wired for it with an XT60 connector from the factory) into the MK3 and you get 10 to 12 rounds/second rate of fire. And the ability to use Worker 22 mags. Eff this new Ultra blaster.
Hasbro made a second type of Ultra magazine and STILL didn't make it double-stacked? So what was the point??? The traditional N-Strike magazine design will happily feed at the 7-8 darts per second that the Speed requires.

Why can I imagine this: Someone's Speed jams and someone sneaks up on them, so they pull out their magazine, point it at the ambusher, and release the lock, spraying out the rest of the mag's darts.
I look at these as “what can be done to this blaster to make it epic” anymore. This one has tons of potential. 💪

According to my calculator, the RPM of the Speed 420. Honestly I was really hoping we could’ve seen an ULTRA drum mag with 25 rounds or something
I love how it looks, I want a full auto ultra blaster but being incompatible with other ultra mags is an absolute deal

I'm a big believer in ultra. I have quite a few ultra blasters. Heck I have 10 of the mags. But that's precisely why I won't be buying one of these. If it took the mags I already had i'd be all over it, but it doesn't, so frick that.

I feel like the change in magazine design was to do with the pusher mech and enabling the darts to be fired faster.
This is a certified “if only they used normal darts” classic
I like plinking toys because they’re fun but when it comes to the point that the performance gets way worse then I start to get pulled away. This one still seems fun though.

Perses is better
Remember the Spampede ecs which came with 3x18 clip mags and a 6 clip mag plus shield and bypod, also the 18 clip mags where obviously compatible with other blasters at that time.
Naturally it's gonna be outperformed pretty badly today but still makes you think how much hasbro has changed over the years, into worse... at least in marketing and selling.
It almost seems like they don't try anymore to make something actually good.

You know, if you ignore the price, the fact that all the darts and mags are proprietary, even to other blasters in the series, and the lack of tac rails, stock attachments, then maybe this series is OK since it seems to be well built and does some cool things.
Too bad there is no ignoring the price when it comes to picking one up lol

Short dart/talon mag conversion for this would be incredible actually... with pusher it shouldn´t even be that hard to do that, hope someone tries it... Of course rewirig for LiPo and upgrade the motors and so on would be necessary too. But if you could also modify the magazine hold thingy in the thumbhole stock to hold two talons... with all of those features that would be nothing short of an amazing SMG primary.

More compact than I thought it was going to be, and now I'm looking forward to the modding that will happen. That's the thing I like about Ultra blasters, the modding. That and Walcom videos about Nerf Ultra
I had a dream of the ultra speed with a Perseus style battery and the Titan drum, and I thought that was a pretty good idea I couldn't make happen.
It looks amazing, it shoots fast, but the proprietary magazines are a deal breaker.

The unique mags are probably required for that fast fire rate. Normal mags probably can’t feed fast enough.
Thanks Walcom - the thing to remember is that since it shoots "silver bullet" darts - you only need about three seconds of full auto fire timeonce you have the werewolf in your sights. Next Endwar we can add a few werewolves to the undead opposing forces to see if it merits a new flinging approach of 1 second 8 dart burst for three trigger pulls and then go back to a worthy primary😁
i give a + for hasbro because of being able to use the mags as close range shotguns
modifying this to fire short darts would take away a lot of it's down sides, and that battery compartment is going to be good for a lipo. So it has some mod potential there, interested to see if kury kafe does something with one
I'd like to see if the 3d printing nerf community will pick up on these mags!
It may not be popular to many stock, but I love the look of that spare mag slot. It gives me Cod Black ops 3 Razorback vibes a little.

Sounds like it needs a lipo, 3d print more mags, and make a double or triple mag holder attachment expansion of the stock (width wise). Then it'd be pretty viable. It comes off like they wanted to combat the flywheel dzp blaster but forgot this is apples and oranges.
Forget extra mags, someone needs to make up a drum for this thing!
Id love to see how much volts those flywheels can take, imagine a 3s or 4s lipo spinning those wheels

Loved the fake out with the ending of the video. I appreciate how the forward/reverse clips were different for both endings.
Even as a plinker that can let A LOT slide... I'm not to peachy on the whole proprietary mags thing. The Mags are a better design but the fact that you can't use them in other blasters and other mags won't work in this is a real REAL problem, especially when the blaster costs $72USD for what is essentially a fancy Rapidstrike

I bought two of these one for my son and myself. I have just purchased high-speed motors, a 4s 2500mAh battery (fits perfectly in the OEM battery tray) and, a variable dc to dc step down for an analogue select fire. I'll let you know how the blaster responds.

I'll stick with my Ultra Focus, I got it when you mentioned it was on sale last year. I did pickup an additional magazine to place in the stock. All the pluses of the Speed with none of the minuses.
I sorta kinda like ultra. And was really hoping for the best with this. And now the proprietary mag to blastet has let me down. I probably would have bought one if it had been a regular ultra mag. But ill just wait until it goes on sale to even consider now. Great vid it did look fun but as usual hasbro has figured out how to disappoint again.
I think the idea of ultra using priority darts and mags is cool, but I don't know the direction of ultra. Elite is standard, Rival is for older humans but what is ultra for?

the vc 58 of nerf, a decent blaster in concept with people who adore it, but uses the same round as the other blasters of the same market but is incompatible with the most common mag configuration

if you want a high fire rate blaster, go buy a perses and if you have the money a prometheus, they are way better than an ultra speed.
I just got my one for $20 at a bargain store. Other than the price of the batteries, it’s worth it.

WHY? Like, the only magazine incompatibility I know of is from Rival because of newer blasters assuming an extra bit of plastic meant to foil 3rd party compatibility the original magazines don't have, but this is just another level of "why?" (Though maybe there's some mega incompatibilities I don't know about?)
Could you fit internals into this thing to convert it to fire Elite-sized darts?
(I'm a springer guy, so I know very little about how flywheel blasters work currently)

I don’t get it, there’s plenty of Ellie and half dart blasters on 3s with super high rates of fire and those magazines keep up just fine.

I am the most happy doing nerf. This will be a good blaster. A kid doesn’t see the bad. They see a toy that can fire SUPER fast!!! Semi auto is fast, and I love nerf. Gonna think about getting it.
How hard would it be to hack up that magwell so it takes regular ultra mags? 6C battery tray can fit a nice big Lipo. This thing might be salvageable yet

This would have been even better if it used the original Ultra mag design. Unfortunately, the new design was enough to break the deal with me. I'm honestly HOPING this doesn't stick around fro future blasters, because otherwise I won't be able to use the mags I already have in those ones. Not to mention, it's likely a patented system by now, so forget about aftermarket options...
If there's a short dart conversion that uses talon mags and it gets a steep discount I'd want this. I have the magstrike for my rapid fire shenanigans but the jankiness of an old blaster is just kinda tiresome. I want to get another dart hose full auto blaster that uses batteries.

Nerf really does not give a flying fuck anymore. This and the addition of the Gel ball line is Nerf's absolute commitment to not doing short darts. Such a shame.
Edit: the fact that you need to flip the mag in the back in order to quick reload is so stupid. Just flip it the other way...
I like how the Speed comes with accustrike darts. 7 darts a second with close to perfect accuracy. Overpowered? Yes.
