I live in kyle tx on plum creek golf course. A neighborhood of austin. I have been a machinist, crafter, car/motorcycle builder, and for the last 6years ive been a master journeyman carpenter building tradeshows. As you might expect, tradeshows are dead due to coronavirus. My goal now is to become a fitter/builder. Golf is my absolute passion. I have read tom wishons books and researched everything i need to get every possible certification you could imagine including joining guilds. One thing unspoken: earnings. What could a fully certified practiced fitter in an area with 15 golf courses and only big box stores offering club fitting, typically expect to make? Given that a business mind is necessary. Thank you in advance.

      Hi Randy,
Great question. Depending on what adapter it is the best best is to step drip out the graphite tip part starting with a small drill bit and working your way up to a slightly less than 335" size and then using a wire brush to get out the rest. Make sure to be wearing safety glasses, have the adapter properly secured in a vice, and to help speed the process along try using a micro torch to heat up the drill bit - NOT until its red hot but warm.

Great video Ryan!! two things, I would love to see you talk about what equipment a beginner club build should/ needs to get. Also ever thought about doing a video on wedge/iron grinding 101? I would be all over that!! Tour Spec just released the unfinished Kyoei irons and wedges and I really want to give it a go.

      Thanks,
Grinding video is in the works. I also saw the irons and they are really cool!
I just need to adjust my space to allow for grinding since I'm in a small space.

    Hey Ryan,
I love your content and admire what you do.
How can I get structured knowledge of club fitting?
I have heard of golfsmith certification, but I believe that it is not operational since the sale.
    Thanks in advance

I wish they still had week long classes for club building. I can do my own grips but I really want to learn it all so I can build and bend my specs and mess around to try different things

There are still club building classes at GolfWorks in Ohio.

I just wish club building wasn’t so equipment intensive. Shaft pullers, gripping stations, frequency counters, bending machines, the list goes on and on and most of these aren’t cheap. Really expensive to become a club builder.
