  • Almost every club has a ferrule, but why are some built using collared ferrules and what are their purpose. This video explains why they are useful, when you should use them, and why they are also used in mass production.

I noticed that the collared ferrule easily moves away from the hosel along the time.

great video, would you recommend installing a .355 shaft in a .370 iron head with a shim and collared ferrule?

Never had a loose ferrule on any clubs I've purchased in 40 years and there have been a few.

      Great Question!
That PIn is actually a weight. You can heat the hosel and use needle nose pliers to remove it. Built a TON of those FW and with a bit of heat and the right pliers you can make quick work of that tip weight.

Hi Ryan, another great video. Not to get to far away from the topic, but lets just say that the fit between the hosel and shaft diameter wasn't great and that you would need a shim so it wouldn't 'wobble' when you dry fitted. If you had the collared ferrule would you still need the shim? thanks again! :D

It really depends - If the fit is snug at the bottom you might nit but if there is still quite a bit of wobble then you should certainly use a shim. When in doubt use a shim in my personal ideology.

I have never used ferrules, but I would think if prepper properly there should be no issue
