And even despite all of that AMD managed to make competitive cards out of nothing. People at Nvidia must have known that if they did their usual +10% performance at +20% price they would get absolutely smashed.

Guess it wasn't difficult to beat that "accidentally" hit every card with a hammer look.
I recently decided to build a gaming pc for a first time in my life.
I went ahead and bought 3070TI (660$) and i5 13600k(300$) , but then I made some research and found out that it is worth to buy rtx 3080 for 100 ~ 150 more.
I went into the microcenter again, to return the item, on the way there, I was looking for 3080 performance and 3080's 'competitors' , I found out that RX 6800XT is a good competitor for 3080.
As i went into the store to check my reserved 3080, I asked if they had RX 6800XT, to which , they said no...
They put my RTX 3080 on the checkout desk, took my 3070TI and told me I had to spend 170$ more.
At that moment I re thinked my decision, I was certain that I am not in a position to pay 170$ more for 10-12% fps gain.
So I told them to give me some time to think.
After few minutes, when they saw I was thinking hard about this decision, they told me they had RX 6900XT in a stock, but it was 'Open box' and costed 600 +- 30 with tax.
I smelled a good deal right there
I took my RX 6900XT home and purchased 2 year warranty on it. Also had 15$ cash back and bought RGB strip.
So far, I think I did a good job for getting my hands on this deal(especially when It's my first time building something).
I'll update this comment once I receive pc case and assemble build, I'll pair RX 6900XT with i5 13600k.

Yeah it's kinda scary (to my wallet) just how fast tech might start to move forward now since AMD is finally offering true competition to both Intel & now Nvidia.
I liked running an I7 3770k for nearly 7 years before I retired it...
I replaced it with a Ryzen 9 3900.... I am concerned that this CPU might not last me as long as I want it to (5 years min my hopes)
Also lucked out on the AMD lottery on their site and got an order in for a 6900 XT after nearly an hour of trying to place the order....
It's replacing a AMD R9 390 that is 5 years old...
I'd hate to see my whole system become obsolete in 3 years....

Wondering, still using my 1080 Ti and i7 5820k oc from 3.3 to 4.2. I play 144hz 1440p. If I upgrade I might build all new. Since x99 chipset might not support some newer technologies. What do you guys think. I prefer higher fps, so maybe if 144hz 4k with RT becomes doable in a lot of AAA games. Like Cyberpunk. Wonder how my 1080 Ti will do 1440p 144hz high/ultra in there.

Just got this card recently for $600 and I’m loving it, runs 1440p at max settings and gets well over 100fps. Runs very quiet as well. I can definitely see myself with this card for years without replacing.

@@AlphaFrog1021 using the 5800x3d. It’s a great cpu to pair with the 6900xt they utilize each other very well. In a lot of benchmarks I’ve seen it gives a 10-15fps boost to most games when compared to different cpus.

I think the long term take away from the RX 6900 XT's performance at launch will be this: Shoulda waited for an all AIB cooler launch. I would love to see any of those beasty RX 6800 XT AIB coolers plopped onto the RX 6900 XT (if the PCB's aren't that different) to see how much better the RX 6900 XT would do.
I got the ASUS TUF 6800 XT from Microcenter just because it was the only graphics card they had. Didn’t realize how good it was until later
I watched an interview with Lisa Sue covering the companies goals, the video was from about a year ago, she talks about how the company is looking for pure gaming performance. And looking out their model lineup it really matters what they're trying to do. They're not focusing on glittery marketing campaigns that only appeal to a few games (like Ray tracing and dlss) they are focusing on what will be the fastest card on average for all 30,000 games on steam. If you're going to be doing productivity and video editing or streaming or any type of business work I don't think AMD is advertising their that is nvidia's market. But if you have a big game library and have been gaming for years and years and years that's who AMD is targeting.
Now that we have a competitive AMD card on the high end, maybe Anthony could do a frame rate comparison between games in Linux? For science!
Level11Techs said that RDNA2 has been the best GPU series he's used on Linux for IOMMU / VM work. These cards are lifesavers for the open source community.
