Insane. Why wouldn't I just try and scalp my 6800 XT? And if it doesn't work just return it and wait for my cheaper and better 3080 expected next year, lmao! Is it the same elsewhere in the world?
It’s very impressive all things considered. 6800XT vs 3080 Pros: Less power consumption More compact design Around the same level of noise Great thermals (especially for the clock speeds being achieved) More Vram for future proofing SAM? Better 1440p performance (within error of margin through). 6800XT vs 3080 Cons: Less Ray tracing performance (for those who care). A worse encoder for streamers and capturing gameplay. No DLSS alternative (although one is coming soon). Generally 5% slower at 4K (but that’s within error of margin and not noticeable to the average person with specialized testing software).
yeah.. color grading here is perfect.. especially because i am on a calibrated display.. however thanks to this guys because till now they're the only one showing us how bad coil is on this card.. especially for me eventually mounting it with a waterblock...
Now I want to know what the 6900XT can do. If that matches a 3090 (I think it will beat it honestly, except for RT), then Nvidia really has to consider bringing the price down a few notches. For anyone experiencing severe coil whine, a better PSU can resolve issue completely. I upgraded from a Coolermaster master watt 750w bronze to a seasonic 850w platinum.
I am not surprised by the results. AMD has been on a success train for several years now. Everyone will praise them till they begin to fall behind again. As an AMD fan I have stuck to their GPU lineup since 2010. I did use nVidia's GPU lineup for a short stay but always knew AMD had the better options for me. I hope we get support for these new NAVI cards in Mac OS XI soon. (: Good video D'Mitry and I hope Ebert and Michael are okay. :(
I've probably bought over 1,000 cards since I've gotten into computers (obviously not all for me) And of those cards probably 90% have been Nvidia... My reasons? Oh yea every single AMD card I've purchased has had something wrong with it... Many had the similar coil whine which honestly isn't that big of a deal as long as you're able to refund it or be sent a replacement. But the lack of consistency that I've personally been dealt from AMD has been disappointing. I want to keep giving them chances but don't have any reason to because Nvidia is still on top... And no I'm not a Nvidia fanboy who hates everything and anything AMD, of course I have a Ryzen CPU. I hope AMD get better and better, because the outcome of that is nothing but joy for us.
Yeah this is true, with a lot of coil whine problems and their drivers aren't up to par with Nvidia GeForce experience, nvidia is still on top by a margin for now. Let's hope they can tune their driver software better. (5700 xt user here for people that want to tell me I'm an nvidia fanboy)
Pricing (4.55) for the initial releasein the UK of the RX6800 XT Sapphire and Powercolor cards is £679, 898 USD or 1178 Canadian (based in todays exchange rate) Never too sure how comparable the prices are on these videos, like converting the USD MSRP to a Brit RRP because always unsure if that MSRP includes tax. The one thing that used to bug the **** out of me in the US was the in the price on the sticker not matching the price at the till. The decision between the cards might be harder in the UK as their is a price difference of approx £80 between 6800 and 6800Xt or $105 USD
In General the 10 GB wont bottelneck the Card for the next 2-3 Years if you dont play 4K Max Settings. 16 GB will be good for games like Microsoft Flight Simulator whice takes ~10-11 Gb. Advice:10 GB is enough 8 to little for the Future. 16 is more than enough .
Watch Dogs Legions at 1080p almost uses 8 gigabyte... go figure how much memory you need for Watch Dogs Legion at 4K..... more memory is always good for future games. In 2021 more and more games come that are bordering 8gig or above..... Not good for RTx 3070.......
Thanks for this review! If you had made these benchmarks also with 1080p resolution (especially interested in the esports games) this review would have been perfect! I would appreciate if you could test these cards also with 1080p resolutions.
Loving my 3080, but I'm very excited that AMD is finally able to compete with nVidia. We need goid competition in the gpu market. Maybe in a couple if generations AMD can actually convince me to buy from them

With rdna 3 in 1 year, they really need to rethink/ heavily improve their RT performance. If they can do that AND 50% increase in Perf per watt, they will probably crush nividia next yr
I hope so too. Competition is great for us all. Still, Especially after this Nvidia won't be just sitting on their laurels. Hopefully Amd woke a sleeping giant
Hey Dimitri thanks for the great vid. All of your content has such a good energy as well as great content. As for the Red vs. Green comparison, I live in Czechia and the prices are set hugely in favor of AMD. The green team has its products waaay above the MSRP (e.g. 3070 costs more around 700 USD) and they are not available whilst AMD really stuck to the MSRP across various retailers. I managed to purchase both the 6800XT and the Ryzen 5 5600X so I am super pleased and cannot wait to test them out. Anyway what I wanted to say is that the cost per frame is totally in favor of AMD since NVidia is selling about 50% above the MSRP. Cheers and keep up the great work! :) UPDATE a few hours later: The retailer has just informed me they cannot deliver the card as they ran out of stock. Scalpers have bought a good deal of the offering and are now selling it with a 50% uplift.
Hello Dimitri, can you please make a comment telling the viewers that Smart Acess Memory might no longer be AMD exclusive as NVidia came up with a direct counter please? Just to keep most people updated and also, good video 👌🏽
I failed to get this card this morning and was very let down, but I took a look at my local FB Marketplace and ended up scoring an MSI Gaming X Trio RTX 2080 TI brand new in the box (yes, brand new and not used) for $500. I regret nothing.
I have a 6800Xt and aside from some AMD software issues with windows updates breaking the AMD software every update, as far as performance this card kicks booty. It was also $400 cheaper than a 3080 from the same oem. So much for msrp...!
How does the cards perform in a production workload like Resolve and Aftereffects? Does the 16GB of VRAM offer more flexibility than the 8GB and 10 GB from Nvidia?
Thanks for this review. Just ordered a Tuf Gaming 6800XT for $599. Can’t wait to get it! Raytracing and DLSS are meaningless to me and the games I play. So for the price, it was a no brained and will serve me well for the next few years.
its kind of amazing how many reviews ive watched now where they outright recommend one card or the other based on one card getting 170fps at 1440p and one card getting 180fps at 1440p. we kind of need to start telling the whole story here, both cards perform amazing in every resolution, the only downside to the most powerful gpu's released in the last few years was 4k performance and ray tracing performance, this is where the new cards literally had to make good progress and for the most part they have but the 6800xt is some ways behind in RT and thats more of a problem than most reviewers are making out, id be shaking in my boots starting up cyberpunk and toggling that RT switch on praying for it to perform great and nobody should be afraid to use the feature on your brand new RT capable top of the line card, the 2080ti got a shit load of stick for not performing good enough and i have to say first time or not AMD should be getting the same stick, its a pretty half arsed attempt at ray tracing and thats not going to be great going forward. pretty fantastic that the cards are genuine high end performers though but yeh, we wasnt lacking fast rasterization performance anyway and i think reviewers are being just a bit too lenient on AMD who have had 2 years of studying 20 series cards to figure out a way to do better in the big standout features, minecraft at 4k with RT on running at 13fps average is just not good enough, and for anybody that has tried minecraft with RT you will know its a bloody nice feature, but not at 13fps.
Rx 6800 XT is better in 1440p. My monitor is 1440p 170hz and i don't care about raytracing because the visual improvement is negligible for the fps drop that come with it and i'm not a streamer just a gamer so broadcast nvenc and that features doesn't really matter at all so 6800 XT is the perfect and best gpu for me
@@Denominator16 good for you mate, 1440p is better on one or the other it just depends which review you watch and what games are used, id take the card that offers me more for my money, even if i dont use those features right now, ill be a lot happier turning on RT in cyberpunk using a 3080 over a 6800xt i think by the looks of it and that to me makes the difference, if you can game and have fun with a 6800xt go for it man
@@jinx20001 yeah. If i wanted to play at 4k@60-80fps rtx on i would buy rtx 3080, but i prefer higher fps. Anyway both cards are amazing and the return of competition will benefit us as consumers with better cards developed in less time and cheaper in the future
14:49 I'm pausing right here to tell you about the 40% gain Steve from HUB demonstrated in his review when testing AC: Valhalla using SAM. Sure, it's an outlier but it gives you a glimpse of what SAM is capable of when properly utilized.AMD delivered some MASSIVE gains comapred to RDNA. 15:54 I think this will play out like what happened when AMD made the first unified shader in the early 2000s 16:20 That's because there ARE NO RT performance enhancements for Ampere over Turing. What Nvidia referred to in their launch event turned out to be a hoax because they were comparing 2080Ti to 3080 which has far less raw performance
That extra VRAM in these cards have made them the clear winner after 2 years. While people (including me) are getting rid of their 3070 and 3080s these two cards will be there for a long time.
The 6800XT looks like a great card, but here in the UK its £679.99 vs £719.99 for the cheapest RTX 3080. £40 difference isn't enough to sway the masses. It does create a little bit of competition, but, me personally, as much as I dislike Nvidia - their card has a lot more features than the 6800XT, I'd be willing to pay the difference. If that price gap was a little higher, perhaps £80-£100 cheaper then AMD would be cleaning up.
Put this into perspective (outside of the horrible stock) Architecturaly this is impressive. Smaller chip, lower power, 256bit and only Gddr6. I know RT performance is lacking, but AMD standard is sure the future of gaming. This is impressive chip!
So glad I got a Sapphire Pulse 6800. Such a beast of a card. Paired with my 5600x I finally feel like I’m taking full advantage of my 1440p 144hz monitor.
hey i know your comment is 2 years old but since this card is still very good can you tell me if you have coil whine? just got the same gpu but with terrible coil whine. even with only 100fps
It's a good review, but why no overclocking benchmarks? One of the things I was most looking forward to besides the SAM feature was the overclocking performance. Many leaks indicated a good amount of room for overclocking. Will you do another video comparing overclocks to the benchmarks you've already done?
But can coil whine damage your card or other components in the PC? Or is it just being noisy and annoying but wont harm anything? I have a card with coil whine.
This is my honest op : 3080 is much better value with Ray Tracing & DLSS , just waw AMD failed again .they shouldv'e cut the price to 450$ like 5700Xt.
the only hope for AMD is, they have plenty of stocks, since both Nvidia and AMD cards performs the same but no one can buy Nvidia cards right now because they already out of stock (except from scalper that sells twice as expensive)

- 6800 XT released for $941
- 6800 released for $841
- 3080 released for $886
- 3070 released for $709
I can't see any reason why people would go for AMD here other than the shortages. Insane. Why wouldn't I just try and scalp my 6800 XT? And if it doesn't work just return it and wait for my cheaper and better 3080 expected next year, lmao! Is it the same elsewhere in the world?

What a video, very nice SAM background explanation, Dimitri for the win
Finally Dmitry! With all due respect, i am subscribed for you mate
They definitely are on par with Nvidia regarding supply.
It’s very impressive all things considered.
6800XT vs 3080 Pros:
Less power consumption
More compact design
Around the same level of noise
Great thermals (especially for the clock speeds being achieved)
More Vram for future proofing
SAM?
Better 1440p performance (within error of margin through).
6800XT vs 3080 Cons:
Less Ray tracing performance (for those who care).
A worse encoder for streamers and capturing gameplay.
No DLSS alternative (although one is coming soon).
Generally 5% slower at 4K (but that’s within error of margin and not noticeable to the average person with specialized testing software).
Your b-roll is godly as always. Thank you.
Great review, thank you 👏🔥
Clear & Concise review! Thanks.
Best roundup I've heard.
yeah.. color grading here is perfect.. especially because i am on a calibrated display.. however thanks to this guys because till now they're the only one showing us how bad coil is on this card.. especially for me eventually mounting it with a waterblock...
Great job on the lighting on the b-rolls!!! Love it! :) Thanks for the review!
You know my day was going pretty well but seeing Dimitri return really made it. Love you man, welcome back!
Good to see you back Dimitri.
Now I want to know what the 6900XT can do. If that matches a 3090 (I think it will beat it honestly, except for RT), then Nvidia really has to consider bringing the price down a few notches. It is so good to finally have competition in both sectors again. Now we can all revive the 290/390 vs 970/980 flame wars again.
Nice card. I go for the RX 6800 non XT, since my 550W PSU is a little bit undersized for the XT Variant. Think it will be enough for the non XT though :)

The problem is that average of 700fps of valorant vs the 60-70fps average in RDR2, made an average of almost 400fps for both games as you can see, its mathematical correct, but a nonsense since you can get 400fps in RDR2 or near.

For anyone experiencing severe coil whine, a better PSU can resolve issue completely. I upgraded from a Coolermaster master watt 750w bronze to a seasonic 850w platinum.
Wow great review! And this explains the PS5’s coil whine issues since it is also RDNA 2 based.
I was just going to skip to the benchmarks, but Dmitri doing this review is rare air. I'm gonna watch the WHOLE thing
Good video D'Mitry and I hope Ebert and Michael are okay.

@@nasser_almashjary Valo Valo Amar First PC Amd still running well and good.
@James's Gems Bro I never got far enough with an AMD card to install new drivers LMAO
Would anyone be so kind to explain how important the gb of ram each card has. Like how important is it that the 6800 XT has six more gb than the 3080?
For 4k resolution , you can expect from AAA games to drain more than 10gb of vram, which is kinda terrible for a 4k gaming card!
@@nktslp3650 4k won't max out 10gb, at least not now.
Watch Dogs Legions at 1080p almost uses 8 gigabyte... go figure how much memory you need for Watch Dogs Legion at 4K..... more memory is always good for future games. In 2021 more and more games come that are bordering 8gig or above..... Not good for RTx 3070.......
Videomemory is also nice for textures. If you like modding Fallout 4 VR or Skyrim VR... 12+ gig can easy be filled with 4K mods.
Thanks for this review! If you had made these benchmarks also with 1080p resolution (especially interested in the esports games) this review would have been perfect! I would appreciate if you could test these cards also with 1080p resolutions.

UPDATE a few hours later: The retailer has just informed me they cannot deliver the card as they ran out of stock.

15:54 I think this will play out like what happened when AMD made the first unified shader in the early 2000s
16:20 That's because there ARE NO RT performance enhancements for Ampere over Turing.
So summary, Its performing on par or close to the 3080 & 3070 as long as no ray tracing and DLSS is enabled. But loses when those are enabled.
Lovely video.
Love from India 💜
Would be nice if they introduced SAM profiles. It's such a hassle to go into bios and activate it just for certain games and not others.

What are the specs of the rest of the benchmark machine(s)?

The 6800XT looks like a great card, but here in the UK its £679.99 vs £719.99 for the cheapest RTX 3080. £40 difference isn't enough to sway the masses. It does create a little bit of competition, but, me personally, as much as I dislike Nvidia - their card has a lot more features than the 6800XT, I'd be willing to pay the difference. If that price gap was a little higher, perhaps £80-£100 cheaper then AMD would be cleaning up.
