Wilcows I love both equally, those 2 cars are the reason why I’m an AM fanboy. Think of it this way. The DB9 is the one you drive when you just want to cruise, it’s softer and more elegant and mature. The DBS is the more aggressive hardcore and powerful version that you drive in anger. They are both beautiful but the DB9 is more restrained and the DBS is more shouty and cooler.
In my opinion the 2012 to 2015 Jaguar xk xkr xkrs and gt models pretty close. Altho nvr seen a dbs in person and a former xk owner. But I do lean to the DBS
Joe Ziadan I can't stand it when reviewers (I still like Jeremy though) compare GT cars to super cars. Aston Martin weren't trying to make a Gallardo, F430, R8 killer. They were simply making a fiercer, more beautiful DB9 and I think they did a mighty fine job.
This probably remains my all time favorite review Top Gear ever made. It's hard to describe, but there's just an air to how it's filmed and how Clarkson commentates on it trying to understand what it is. Once a year or so I get the urge to watch this again. Such a beautiful car.

I get what he means that its stupid, but to me, its like the Secondary Top Speed Mode Key of a Bugatti Veyron Supersport. It just feels special, that the key turns into a start button, then you press it, there's a little delay and the V12 barks into life. I find it incredibly special, to be honest. It is indeed an Emotional Control Unit, if you ask me.

That car has a lot of really good individual design elements, but they don't add up to make a good-looking car. It looks over-styled and pointlessly aggressive-looking compared to this simple, elegant, beauty. Oh, and then it has a much smaller V12 with two poorly considered turbos on it that really tries hard to mimic the sound of this engine. Same with the 2018-present Vantage. The front looks like a fish that's very surprised, and it's got LEDs on it's ducktail ass, something that nobody asked for. Compare it to the 2006-2017 Vantage, and the newer one looks downright ugly. And then, to make it worse, it's an AMG Twin-Turbo V8 that Aston will say "has been slightly modified to sound different", and that's the biggest pile of sh!t I've ever heard from a car company. That engine sounds exactly like any other contemporary AMG, by which I mean choked, boring, and emotionless. Listen to the old Vantage 4.7L V8 compared to this, that's so much better. Overall, Aston have just ruined themselves, fcuked themselves royally since Dr. Bez left.
the DBS is absolutely beautiful, like a symphony, a ballerina, or like poetry in motion just exquisite and a master piece. wonder when I will be able to afford one.
I have to disagree with Jezza, I had a DB9 Volante, and after 18months I had to upgrade it for a Carbon Black DBS Volante once I'd driven one, as it just is the better looking car, and the active suspension, handling and Ceramic Brakes makes a real world huge improvement and livability difference to that of the DB9. I still look back when I walk away from parking the DBS, my fiancé half jokes that I love it than I do her. Its close.......The car is that good!
I got stuck in traffic today next to one of these (which is why I'm rewatching this now) and I have to say I could never have even imagined it would be that beautiful in real life.
The DBS is still bucket list car for me. It seems to be the complete package for weekend trips for two. Its beautiful, sounds incredible, has more than enough speed and power for driving on public roads, comes with a 6 speed manual, and they're selling for the price of a new base trim 911!
My first AM was a BD9 with the dbs body kit, trunk, hood, mirrors. It was the DB9-S Clarkson spoke of. Chicago basketball player had updated it in 2010, upgraded the interior to match and blacked it out. Added headers, exhaust and intake plus a returned. Flawless car!! Paid db9 money for the Clarkson "s"!!!!

The DB11 and DB12 wished it was anywhere near this level of beautiful. I'd have this any day over the newer ones, including the Vanquish that came after it, because it was not available with a manual. It is really "bite the back of your hand" beautiful. Add to that an unforgettable, musical, hairy-chested V12 soundtrack, and I want it even more. Possibly one of, if not, the best car Aston has ever made. BTW, that key, to me, makes it so much more special, no way do I find it stupid.
you definitely can on a new 09 model - test drove it today back to back with a db9- absolutely phenomenal. sooo much better to drive than the db9. so much more alive. much more midrange oomph. ignore the 0-60 minimal difference. in the real world, it is miles ahead of the db9. i am going to trade my techart 997 6oobhp twin turbo in for it. so much more, not as fast but seems it - great soundtrack , gutsy hand finished classy road racer.
still in 2020 this car represents one of the best ever built. I am considering buying a DBS with Touchtronich automatic transmission, the only concession to modernity, I believe the aspirated v12 engine is much more interesting than the subsequent turbos or Mercedes engines. It remains a supercar with fantastic performance that will hold great value in the future

6:50 I beg to differ, I still buy the DB9 Coupe as it's still not much different than the DBS Coupe. But if I want to get the convertible Volante version, the DBS is miles better than the DB9. Even both Hammond and Clarkson complained that the DB9 Volante is too soft and willowy.

If anyone were to ask me to tell me I could have one car in my garage, one car and that's it. Any car you want, but you can only have one, I think I would choose this one. It is the perfect blend of beauty, craftsmanship, sportiness, speed, and luxury. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.
In the end the best thing about this car compared to the DB9 is the gear-box. Automatic is fun and all, but manual is a cherry on the top of a fast driving experience.

6:50 I beg to differ, I still buy the DB9 Coupe as it's still not much different than the DBS Coupe. But if I want to get the convertible Volante version, the DBS is miles better than the DB9. Even both Hammond and Clarkson complained that the DB9 Volante is too soft and willowy.

fav car ever! and when i go to england my aunts friend is a car club member and he has so many super cars including the dbs! i get to rid in ALL of them!
If anyone were to ask me to tell me I could have one car in my garage, one car and that's it. Any car you want, but you can only have one, I think I would choose this one. It is the perfect blend of beauty, craftsmanship, sportiness, speed, and luxury. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

In the end the best thing about this car compared to the DB9 is the gear-box. Automatic is fun and all, but manual is a cherry on the top of a fast driving experience.
