- How to diagnose a common piece of audio home theater equipment. Basic steps of troubleshooting my Pioneer VSX-D710S Dolby Digital receiver. Yes it's a bit long. No way to rush through something like this in 5 minutes.

Great tutorial. I have the VSX D812. Very similar. No problems with mine yet but nice to watch you working. Would've been nice to see the resoldering tho. Did you just add solder, suck out the old solder, or add flux and resolder?
Just added flux core solder. Soldering is an art deserving of its own video but that's a topic pretty well covered already.

A side question: I guess you eventually got resolution to that power line RFI issue you posted about some 3 years ago. An update on that would be welcome. (I couldn't easily find one with the search function.)
Yes I did. Turned out to be an in-home cellular repeater owned by my neighbor that was still powered but not being used for many years that had gone completely haywire. Not only caused RF interference but also put an end to neighbor relations when they refused to allow me to locate the source when asked politely. Had to have the power company temporarily disconnect power to their home to prove it was coming from their home. Had they not fixed the problem, under federal law, and by enforcement action through the FCC, I could have, AND WOULD HAVE had their power disconnected permanently until they did.
Hi, ive picked up a VSX-708RDS, only problem is that it has distorted sound R/H channel. Any suggestions please
I have this exact surround sound system. When I plug into my PlayStation 4 via optical it works but only on FL and FR, the surround sound speakers have no sound. I went into test mode and it transmits sound to all speakers so I don't know how to make it surround sound. Hopefully you can answer or point me towards a trouble shooting forum. Please and thank you
My Pioneer vsx 823 powers on then shuts off a few seconds later. nothing is connected to it. Have tried Reset but doesnt stay on long enough to complete steps. Any suggestions...Thanks
how do i make work the active sub play? I get no sound what ever i do, but the sub works i just cant get no signal. Do i need the original remote for surround setting? I tried sub preout and sub out nothing works help :(
Do you know how to reset a pioneer VSX-04 it has power off that comes on after powering up then it shuts off
I'm in the process of troubleshooting a VSX-84TXS. Most if not all of the speaker outputs are intermittent, but they'll wake up if I turn the volume up nearly all the way.
The service manual I could find seems to only focus on the HDMI side of things. So hopefully I can figure things out by looking at other models. Still need to check the headphone jack to see if that works.
Well, I had to jump through a lot of hoops in the end. Removing one of the screws from the back panel disconnects the grounding to the DC side of things, which lead to a fault, and the receiver then refusing to turn on. Never imagined taking the back panel off would cause an issue, but it did, and it took me a long time to figure out that that was the problem.
Anyway, after that, turns out it was just the relay switches being dirty that was giving me the intermittent problem. Easy fix.

Hello. How did you remove the ribbon wire? Did you just pull it or was there a clip? Mine i similar and I wonder if I just need to pull it. I'm afraid I may break the ribbon wire.
The Mylar ribbons are very tough. They pull straight out, but usually need a good tug.

pioneer VSX-1020 pqls flashing Had no problems over past 11 years until the past couple of weeks. We now have a repeatedly shuts down and the blinking PQLS red light and will not power on. But when I power unplug and re-plug there is click in sound which show it was ON but only show blinking PQLS red light nothing else. I tryed all speaker and HDMI unplug but same as it is.

If the 120 volt ac power outlets on the back of a av receiver get shorted out would the av receiver itself get damaged
It would definitely blow the internal fuse but other than that I think not.

My Pioneer Elite SC-05 lost the subwoofer signal, when I jiggle the cable it gains signal, is it the output connector??
You're probably close. The output connectors have stiff wires soldered to the pc board behind it. Probably a bad solder joint at the pc board.

Nope. Must have a remote. That's one thing I really do not like about these.

Yeah, even with full diversity receiver, I still get some multi-path cancellation from time to time, with all the reflections being inside a Faraday cage.
